The every-so-often lemming

Posted by Robin on 6 September 2023 5 Comments

Yes, I am still lemming all the items from Loewe's home collection, none of which I am ever likely to pay for. Here is the new incense set in Tomato Leaves: "Set featuring a terracotta incense holder and 25 incense sticks crafted in bamboo with Tomato Leaves essence. Echoing the distinctive design of LOEWE Home Scents Scented Candles, the Incense Holder is crafted in glazed terracotta with a ribbed surface and an organic, curvilinear shape, made to burn your incense safely and cleanly. Each Tomato Leaves incense stick reveals a green scent evoking the fresh, verdant aroma of tomato vines just before they burst into fruit. The scent reveals delicate notes of cassis berries over time." $205 (!) at Loewe.

Friday scent of the day 8/11

Posted by Robin on 11 August 2023 121 Comments

It’s Friday! Plus in Japan, it’s National Mountain Day. Birthdays today: Alex Haley, Steve Wozniak, Inès de La Fressange, Joe Jackson. Our community project for today: wear an incense fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2015.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m heading north today (to my sister’s lake house in Massachusetts, so I’ll be out of touch most of the day) in a light spritz of L’Artisan Parfumeur Passage d’Enfer…

Its first crop of frankincense

Posted by Robin on 3 August 2023 3 Comments

Amouage, the opulent Omani perfumery, is set to make history as it prepares to harvest its first crop of frankincense from trees in the Unesco-protected site of Wadi Dawkah, Oman.

Once part of a flourishing route that transported frankincense to the world, Wadi Dawkah, the caravan oasis at Shisr, and the now the deserted ports of Khor Rori and Khor Al-Baleed have all been taken under the patronage of Unesco, in a bid to preserve them for future generations.

From P.F. Candle Co, Ojai Lavender Incense: "a calming vortex surrounded by sun-drenched fields, orange groves and lavender farms, jagged mountains washed in a rosy, sunset glow. Aromatic, herbal, citrus. Pixie tangerine, blue lavender, coyote mint". 15 sticks for $11 at Candle Delirium.

Want, want, want, but don't need and not going to buy: the Ma Poule incense box & censer from Carron (the ceramics brand of Mathilde Carron-Astier de Villatte, one of the co-founders of Astier de Villatte, and her husband). "A funny hen placed on an incense box which will best preserve your delicate scent sticks, protected from light and humidity. You can place & burn your incense sticks on its beak." $160 at The More The Happier in Los Angeles.
