Kusco-Murphy Bedroom Hair ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 3 November 2007 5 Comments

Kusco Murphy Bedroom Hair

Every fragrance addict owns a few scented products that she (or he) privately opens just to sniff, even when she’s not using them; they may be actual perfumes, lotions or soaps, or even hair products. My latest confession in this area is my strange need to unscrew my jar of Kusco-Murphy Bedroom Hair and inhale its fragrance every time I spot the jar sitting on the bathroom counter.

Bedroom Hair is certainly attractive enough to leave out in plain view, unlike the squeezed-out tubes and brightly colored plastic bottles that are concealed under my sink. Its label design is a little bit romantic and little bit rock-and-roll, with gold, monogram-like letters scrolling across a purple background. The product inside is similarly enticing, a shimmering golden gel…

John Masters Lavender Rosemary Shampoo for Normal Hair ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 11 August 2007 6 Comments

John Masters Lavender Rosemary shampooI’ve been using John Masters Lavender Rosemary Shampoo daily this summer, and it’s earned my loyalty through its combination of natural ingredients, beneficial results, and a fragrance that works as a quickie aromatherapy treatment in the shower. It seems to have improved the overall condition of my hair, and it’s made my morning ritual a little more pleasant in the process.

If you’re interested in natural haircare, a John Masters shampoo has a lot to offer: like the other products in the line, Lavender Rosemary Shampoo is made without sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate, artificial color, paraben preservatives, or animal testing. Instead, its base of coconut-derived soap is enriched with herbal infusions, many of them certified organic…

L’Occitane Honey Foaming Jelly for Body & Hair

Posted by Jessica on 28 January 2007 9 Comments

L'Occitane Honey Foaming Jelly for Body and HairHoney Foaming Jelly for Body and Hair, a combination shower gel and shampoo, is one of the products in L'Occitane's Honey Harvest line. Its label is illustrated with charming, colorful images of bees flanked by clover blossoms, and in the L'Occitane shops, it stands amidst a series of related products, including bars of soap shaped like honeybees.

The familiar symbolism of bees and honey is both practical and indulgent. Bees are traditionally associated with industriousness to the point of compulsion: you can be “busy as a bee” or find yourself preoccupied by a “bee in your bonnet”. The bees' nectar-like output, on the other hand, is the epitome of sweetness: you can address your lover with the endearment “honey” during your “honeymoon”, and you can always “catch more flies with honey than with vinegar”…

Scented body products: Malin + Goetz Peppermint Hair Shampoo and Cilantro Hair Conditioner

Posted by Jessica on 31 December 2006 9 Comments

Malin + Goetz Peppermint ShampooThe streamlined product list of Malin + Goetz includes “paired performance systems” of cleansers and moisturizers for body, face, and hair, as well as fragrance and candles. Peppermint Hair Shampoo and Cilantro Hair Conditioner are quintessential Malin + Goetz products, embodying the brand’s philosophy of “Natural Ingredients. Performance Technology”: they combine botanical extracts with gentle synthetic ingredients, and they are packaged in the company’s trademark minimalist bottles, labeled with ingredients and instructions in no-nonsense type. Founders Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz developed their business as a union of science and style, and the products sold by their “modern apothecary” are intended for both men and women of all skin types.

At first this one-size-fits-all strategy made me feel skeptical. My hair, for example, is somewhat hard-to-please: it’s wavy, slightly dry, and thick but easily weighed down. However, both products were pleasant surprises for me…
