Aquolina Pink Sugar perfume

Aquolina launched Pink Sugar in 2003. It made the list of the top 10 perfumes at Sephora almost immediately, and is still firmly entrenched in the top 5. Pink Sugar, in case you couldn’t guess by the name, is geared towards a relatively young market, and promises to “take you on a journey through the pleasures and flavors of childhood with a playful blend of vanilla and caramel”. Other notes include bergamot, Sicilian orange, raspberry, fig leaves, lily of the valley, licorice, strawberry, red fruit, barbe-a-papa (cotton candy), musk, sandalwood, tonka bean and powdery notes.

Anyone who reads here regularly knows I am not usually a big fan of sweet fragrances, and the first time I tried Pink Sugar on a test strip in Sephora some years ago, I was rather horrified. My notes read “burnt cotton candy with strawberries”, and that is about how I remember it. But I rather liked last year’s follow-up scent Chocolovers and was curious to try the new Blue Sugar for men, so revisiting Pink Sugar seemed in order…

Parfumerie Generale Aomassai

Aomassaï is fragrance no. 10 from Parfumerie Generale, and is a 2006 release. It was “inspired by Southern Africa and the art of the Baoulé tribe“, and includes notes of caramel, toasted hazelnuts, spices, vetiver, balsam wood, bitter orange, incense, liquorice, wengué wood, dried grasses and resin.

Ralph Lauren Ralph Hot fragrance

Ralph Hot is the first gourmand fragrance from the Ralph Lauren brand. Like its predecessors in the Ralph by Ralph Lauren line (Ralph debuted in 2000 and Ralph Cool followed in 2004), it is aimed at women in the 15 to 25 age cohort. It was formulated by perfumer Pierre Negrin, and features cinnamon, almond blossoms, mandarin, mocha cream, orchid, honeysuckle, jasmine, fresh milk, fig, maple, creamy vanilla, amber, musk and sandalwood.

Ralph Hot starts with a brief flash of citrus overlaid with lots of cinnamon…

Musc Maori by Parfumerie Generale

Musc Maori is fragrance no. 4 in the Parfumerie Generale line up. The notes are bergamot, Cumaru wood, coffee tree blossom, white musk, cocoa bean, abstract flower accord, tonka bean, vanilla scented musk and amber.

Musc Maori starts with, as promised, bergamot, wood, and coffee, but I don’t notice them as separate entities…
