Vera Wang Glam Princess ~ brief perfume review

Posted by Robin on 19 February 2010 113 Comments

Vera Wang Glam Princess advert 1Vera Wang Glam Princess advert 2

I do hope the person at Vera Wang who came up with the idea of Princess has been given a hefty raise, and maybe some extra vacation time.1 The original Princess — born to rule! — launched in 2006, and we’ve since seen Flower Princess, Rock Princess, and now the new(ish) Glam Princess. The first two flankers were pretty much as advertised: Flower Princess was more floral than the original, and Rock Princess was that clean fruitchouli that you usually get from a mainstream flanker with “rock” in the name.

Glam Princess is pretty close to the original Princess, close enough that it’s hard to see why you’d need both…

Anna Sui Rock Me! ~ perfume review

Posted by Jessica on 15 October 2009 26 Comments

Anna Sui Rock Me BottleAnna Sui Rock Me Agyness

I should begin by admitting that I’m a longtime fan of Anna Sui’s clothing designs and her entire aesthetic. I’ve been known to haunt the Anna Sui boutique in New York, just to browse the latest outfits (and costume jewelry, and fragrances), and I always admire the shop’s décor. I also enjoy the music constantly playing in the background, which sounds like the mix tapes I used to compile for myself and my friends in the late 1980s. Sui has always referred to rock music as one of her inspirations, and her shop is decorated with posters featuring bands from the Woodstock era through The White Stripes and Radiohead.

Since she has always combined fashion with these kinds of cultural references, it makes sense that Anna Sui has just released a fragrance described as a “tribute to the electricity and energy of rock-n-roll.” Rock Me! is an Eau de Toilette with listed notes of pear, green orange, and peach skin; honeysuckle, jasmine, and waterlily; and cedarwood, amber, and vanilla. The bottle is adorable, as Anna Sui fragrance bottles always are…

Bath and Body Works ~ Japanese Cherry Blossom, Sweet Pea, Warm Vanilla Sugar, and Black Amethyst fragrance reviews

Posted by Angela on 4 August 2009 142 Comments

Walk out of Victoria’s Secret, past the kiosks selling silver jewelry and foreign language tapes, past the Sunglass Hut, and there it is: Bath and Body Works. I’d always though of Bath and Body Works as a sort of palace of plastic bottles and fruity hand lotions, but I have friends who swear by some of their products. It was high time to check it out.

At first, Bath and Body Works was overwhelming. Shelves of product in identical bottles but different labels covered the walls, and the center of the store was filled with tables stacked high with more product. To help the consumer who didn’t know which way to turn, big signs hung over some of the shelves, signifying a particular wall of scent as “sensual” or “fresh”.

The store manager informed me right away that Bath and Body Works has the top five selling fragrances in the United States. I kept my mouth shut about Victoria’s Secret’s claim that Dream Angels Heavenly was the top selling fragrance and asked him which scents were the most popular. He said Japanese Cherry Blossom was the top seller, followed by Sweet Pea and then Warm Vanilla Sugar. I asked him which fragrance he thought was the most complex, and he pointed out a relatively new fragrance, Black Amethyst…

Floris Madonna of the Almonds perfumeTova Signature Platinum Perfume

Floris has launched Madonna of the Almonds (shown above left), a limited edition perfume for women. The scent is being introduced in conjunction with the novel of the same name by author Marina Fiorato — “an unforgettable story of love and art set against the backdrop of the Italian wars”.

Fresh zesty citrus notes of bergamot and lemon, so redolent of Italy, mingle with the delicate floral accord…
