Friday scent of the day 7/18

Posted by Robin on 18 July 2025 150 Comments

It’s Friday and Nelson Mandela International Day. RIP Connie Francis. Our community project for today is Cheap & Cheerful … you know what to do! Thanks to ringthing for the suggestion.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m feeling a bit off this morning, so I’m commando. If things pick up by the end of the day my plan is Demeter Gingerale. I’m also out of town and very behind on reading comments; I’ll catch up eventually…

Friday scent of the day 7/11

Happy Friday! It’s also Free Slurpee from 7-Eleven day, plus World Population Day (that would be about 8.2 billion). Birthdays: James Abbott McNeill Whistler, EB White, Jhumpa Lahiri. Our community project for today: imagine you are an astronaut and you’ve just returned to earth after nine months in space. What scent did you miss most, and what perfume would you reach for? Thanks go to Kanuka for the suggestion!

I think what I would miss the most is the smell of real flowers, so I’m in the perfume from my collection that smells the most like real flowers: Aftelier Candide. (My runners up, but I have only a few drops left of each, would be CB I Hate Perfume On A Clear Day You Can See Forever or April Aromatics Jasmina; if I still had any at all I would have considered Hiram Green Moon Bloom…)

Friday scent of the day 7/4

Happy Friday and happy Fourth of July! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a basil note, if you have one.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Me: same as yesterday…I’m commando for a day at the beach, but I’ll be in Guerlain Mandarine Basilic this evening…

Friday scent of the day 6/27

Posted by Robin on 27 June 2025 144 Comments

It’s the last Friday in June, plus National PTSD Awareness Day and Canadian Multiculturalism Day. Birthdays: Paul Laurence Dunbar, Helen Keller, Norma Kamali, Vera Wang, Alice McDermott. Also, National Orange Blossom Day, and that’s the subject of our community project for today…you know what to do!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in Diptyque Eau des Sens…

Friday scent of the day 6/20

Posted by Robin on 20 June 2025 233 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Summer Solstice! It’s also World Refugee Day and National Ice Cream Soda Day. Our community project for today: celebrate Brian Wilson’s birthday (and the summer solstice) by scenting a Beach Boys song, or honor Brian Wilson with your fragrance in any other way you see fit.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

If you asked me to name my top 20 recording artists, The Beach Boys would not make the cut. I like their music well enough but they get only a tiny fraction of my listening time. That said, I do think Brian Wilson crafted at least two, maybe three, of what I’d call the Top 10 Perfect Pop songs, and without hesitation I’d put God Only Knows at spot #1 (and I’m not alone). Carl Wilson sings lead, but it’s Brian Wilson’s genius as a writer, producer and arranger that makes the song “one of the most complex—and beautiful—songs in the annals of American popular music”. The only thing I could think of to match it (that I was willing to wear on a hot June Day) was Diorissimo…
