Happy Friday and happy National Comic Book Day! (And a few selected birthdays: William Faulkner, Donald Glover, Glenn Gould, Pedro Almodóvar, plus a quick PSA: the freebiemeet starts tomorrow.) I have a feeling that real comic book people do not include comic strips as “comic books”, even if the strips have been collected in books. I’m going with Calvin and Hobbes anyway. I did not pay any attention to the strip during the ten years Bill Watterson was writing it (1985-1995), but once my son learned to read it was one of his favorites, and then I started to read it too, and even now I can pick up one of the books and lose track of time for the next hour or so. So I’m scenting Calvin, who would not wear cologne in a million years, but he probably has that little boy dirt smell. Demeter Dirt would be perfect but if I have any I can’t find it, and CB I Hate Perfume Black March is too sad, so I’m in (a precious tiny drop of) CB I Hate Perfume On A Clear Day You Can See Forever. It’s not quite right but I do smell awfully good…
