Friday scent of the day 11/5

Posted by Robin on 5 November 2021 252 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Guy Fawkes Day! And a very happy 61st to Tilda Swinton. Our community project for today: wear Like This, or any other Etat Libre d’Orange fragrance, if you have one. If you don’t, or if you’re not in the mood for Etat Libre d’Orange (or if you just wore Like This for the Pumpkin Spice project), do something else. You could listen to Tilda Swinton read the Rumi poem that inspired the fragrance, and choose something based on that?

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m wearing the first Etat Libre d’Orange fragrance I came across this morning, You or Someone Like You. It does not remind me of Tilda Swinton. If it helps anyone, I was just reminded this morning that she wore Penhaligon’s Bluebell for 25 years before she collaborated on Like This.

Reminder: on 11/12 we’re doing Dealer’s Choice, edition 5….

It’s Friday and National Cat Day. Plus, we’re right in the heart of Pumpkin Spice season. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance featuring any or all of the elements (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, allspice, & etc).

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

My Pumpkin Spice week, day 5: allspice, nutmeg and clove, in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur…

Friday scent of the day 10/22

It’s Friday, International Stuttering Awareness Day and National Nut Day. Happy 69th to Jeff Goldblum and happy 78th to Catherine Deneuve. The splitmeet starts tomorrow!

Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone’s picks for the Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in “Leprechaun is a wondrous green hue emblematic of the mythical imps featured in Irish folklore” or “Friendly and joyful, an optimistic yellow offering the promise of a sunny day.”)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I went with Kenzo Air for Pantone 18-4434 Mykonos Blue…

Friday scent of the day 10/15

Happy Friday and happy Global Handwashing Day! It’s also Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse‘s birthday. Our community project for today: wear a perfume for Jeeves OR Wooster. If you have never seen or read anything about Jeeves and Wooster, pick a favorite comic character from any medium, and scent that character.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in Astier de Villatte Commune de Paris 1871, which doesn’t really address the cp proper — I’m not assigning it to Jeeves or Wooster in particular — but if you ignore the name, it’s a decent way to conjure up the series as a whole, maybe even the entire Wodehouse universe, covering what Kevin called…

…a lovely scented mix of country-walk (lemon and bergamot leading to lavender-coumarin-moss) and cozy parlor — a smooth benzoin-patchouli accord combining with scents I’ll describe as “candy dish” and powder puff…

Friday scent of the day 10/8

Happy Thinking of You Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that reminds you of someone else (a friend? a family member? another NST reader? a celebrity? anyone, really). Thanks go to chocolatemarzipan for the suggestion.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in John Varvatos Artisan, which always reminds me of Kevin…
