Friday scent of the day 2/10

Posted by Robin on 10 February 2023 245 Comments

It’s Friday, National Umbrella Day and World Pulses Day. Birthdays: Boris Pasternak, Chick Webb, E. L. Konigsburg. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with rose, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2016).

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

We should do a rose month — there are so many I meant to wear but did not get to! But I ended up in Diptyque L’Ombre dans L’Eau…

Friday scent of the day 2/3

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2023 153 Comments

It’s Friday and happy National Carrot Cake Day. RIP Paco Rabanne. Birthdays: Charles Henry Turner, Gertrude Stein, Alvar Aalto, Mabel Mercer, Simone Weil, Nathan Lane.

Our community project for today is Edition 8 of the Picture Challenge. Wear a perfume that matches the image, which is detail from Women of Shangri-La, 2002, by Yayoi Kusama.* (You can see the entire installation if you scroll down here; I cannot post it for copyright reasons).

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

According to Kusama, “Our earth is only one polka dot among a million stars in the cosmos. Polka dots are a way to infinity. When we obliterate nature and our bodies with polka dots, we become part of the unity of our environment.” The quote made me think right away of Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate, so that’s what I’m wearing…

Friday scent of the day 1/27

It’s Friday! Also, National Chocolate Cake Day and International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Birthdays: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Lewis Carroll, Jerome Kern, Bobby Blue Bland, Narciso Rodriguez and Alan Cumming. Our community project: wear a fragrance by Narciso Rodriguez, if you have one.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I suspect I will not be the only one in Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez aka White Cube. (Also, I’m still catching up after spending most of yesterday in bed recovering from my shingles shot. I’ll read the Thursday comments by the end of the day…)

Friday scent of the day 1/20

It’s Friday and the International Day of Acceptance. RIP David Crosby. And happy 77th to David Lynch! Our community project for today: Pick a favorite Lynch work or character and wear a scent to match, or pick a theme (split roles? doppelgangers? surrealism?) and work with that for your fragrance choice. If you don’t know (or care about) his work, you could just wear something a little weird or off-kilter.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I wanted to wear vintage Vent Vert, since Balmain reissued the fragrance in 1990, the same year that Twin Peaks debuted, and I thought a bitter green would nicely capture the atmosphere of the show. But I don’t seem to have any, so I went with CB I Hate Perfume CB93, for its galbanum and fir / pine notes. It’s not quite right but it’ll have to do…

Friday scent of the day 1/13

Posted by Robin on 13 January 2023 199 Comments

It’s Friday the 13th. Also, National Korean American Day and Public Radio Broadcasting Day. RIP Lisa Marie Presley. Our community project for today is True Colors: tell us your favorite color, and wear a fragrance with that color in the name, or that reminds you of that color, or that has juice in that color, or … ?

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

My favorite color is purple, in any shade from lavender to eggplant. I went the no-thought-required route and put on Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, because my travel spray is a in a spiffy purple leather case…
