Friday scent of the day 10/27

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2023 164 Comments

It’s Friday and the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. Birthdays: Joe Medicine Crow, Dylan Thomas, Ruby Dee, Roy Lichtenstein, Sylvia Plath, John Cleese, Maxine Hong Kingston, Fran Lebowitz. Our community project for today is specialty woods… wear a perfume with guaiac, cypress, oak, or some other specialty wood note we haven’t already done (so far, we’ve covered oud, sandalwood, cedar and evergreens).

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m doing oak, in a little dab of Serge Lutens Chêne…

Friday scent of the day 10/20

It’s Friday! It’s also International Chefs Day, World Osteoporosis Day and Information Overload Day. Birthdays: Arthur Rimbaud, Jelly Roll Morton, Bela Lugosi, Tom Petty, Viggo Mortensen. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone’s picks for the Autumn/Winter 2023/2024 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in “Exuding the warmth and splendor of the sun, High Visibility expresses joy and good cheer.” or “Sturdy and steady Burnt Sienna conveys a sophisticated earthiness.” Also note that the set includes Viva Magenta, the color of the year…you could cheat and wear what you picked for that project.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I had Tender Peach plans for today, but instead I’m getting through the tail end of Covid. I’m commando and I slept in, again…

It’s Friday (the 13th) and the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Birthdays: Art Tatum, Lenny Bruce, Paul Simon. Our community project for today: we’re off to India! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in India, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to India, or that features an Indian ingredient, or ?

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I went with Neela Vermeire Créations Pichola…

Friday scent of the day 9/29

Posted by Robin on 29 September 2023 248 Comments

Happy Friday and happy National Coffee Day! It’s also World Heart Day and International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction. RIP Michael Gambon. Birthdays today: Elizabeth Gaskell, Colin Dexter and Diana Vreeland. Our community project for today: Wear one of Vreeland’s favorite perfumes (reportedly YSL Opium and Chanel No. 5), or wear something equally bold, or wear something from her posthumous perfume line, or take inspiration from a Diana Vreeland quote (more here), or ?

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m redoing yesterday, since I was out sick…I’m in Myrrhe Églantine for the deliciously ludicrous Vreeland quote “Why don’t you…have an elk hide trunk for the back of your car? Hermès of Paris will make this”…

Friday scent of the day 9/22

Posted by Robin on 22 September 2023 279 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Hobbit Day! It’s also the last day of (astronomical) summer…the Autumn Equinox will start in the early morning hours of Saturday (in the northern hemisphere, at least). Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that says adiós to summer, or hello to fall, or wear your favorite transitional fragrance. (If you’re in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly!)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale, which I included in 5 perfumes: incense fragrances for fall…
