Friday scent of the day 2/9

Posted by Robin on 9 February 2024 310 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Lunar New Year’s Eve! (Today is the last day of the Water Rabbit. It’s also National Pizza Day. Birthdays: Thomas Paine, Carmen Miranda, J. M. Coetzee, Carole King, Alice Walker.)  Our community project for today: wear an auspicious fragrance to ring in the Year of the (Wood) Dragon, or burn or wear incense to honor your ancestors.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m was going to wear Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline, but it’s too heavy for my mood this morning. I’m in Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale instead…

Friday scent of the day 2/2

Posted by Robin on 2 February 2024 202 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, and he’s usually wrong but I am choosing to believe an early spring is coming all the same. (Plus, Woodstock Willie didn’t see his either, nor did Staten Island Chuck.) Our community project for today: assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, and pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year. (This is a repeat.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I put a bunch of Hermessence travel sprays in a small bag and picked Ambre Narguile. I haven’t worn it in ages, I smell great, and I’m still going with the groundhogs so it’s a good thing I wore it now before it’s too warm…

It’s Friday and National Peanut Brittle Day. Birthdays: Bessie Coleman, Paul Newman, Lucinda Williams. We’re off to The Caribbean! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that is named for a place in The Caribbean, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to The Caribbean, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m doing nutmeg and allspice + the island travel theme, in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur…

Happy Friday and happy 78th to Dolly Parton! (More birthdays: Edgar Allan Poe, Paul Cézanne, Patricia Highsmith, Julian Barnes, Janis Joplin, Edwidge Danticat.) Our community project for today: our theme is Dolly Parton, do what you like with it!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Kris pointed out yesterday that there is a hybrid rose named after Dolly Parton, plus she likes (yellow) roses. I’m in The Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose, the rose in my collection that seemed like the best fit…

Friday scent of the day 1/12

Happy Friday and happy National Marzipan Day! (Birthdays: John Singer Sargent, Jack London, Ruth Brown.) Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with honey, almond or both.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m taking a point for the almond in Marni Rose…
