At 18.04 percent, Parfums de France ranks as the number-one fragrance seller by audience of 13- to 17-year-olds. It is similarly known for fragrance samples, but also offers full-size bottles of scents from brands ranging from BDK Parfums to Parfums de Marly at a discount.

Sales rebound

After a surprising tumble in Q4, Ulta Beauty’s sales rebound with growth across fragrance, body care, and sun care.

The retailer reported its Q1 2025 results on Thursday which include a 4.5% net sales increase to reach $2.8 billion for the quarter, up from $2.7 billion year-over-year.

Signs of softening

Sales of fragrance — the surprise hero category for beauty since the coronavirus pandemic began — are definitely showing signs of softening. But by how much is the question.

A raft of companies’ recent first-quarter 2025 earnings are giving a clue, as consumer confidence wanes and purse-strings tighten amid today’s fraught geopolitical and social scene. That is being buffeted by trade wars, military wars and rollercoaster-like stock markets, among other quickly changing, negative phenomena.

Booming

The fragrance industry is booming. Men are moving beyond inexpensive aftershaves to invest in premium scents. Gen Z consumers are driving sales by “cocktailing” multiple fragrances to create unique blends. Meanwhile, influencers are making it trendy to buy high-quality dupes of luxury brands. Even the proliferation of GLP-1 weight loss medications are providing a sales bounce.

A 6% decline

On May 6, 2025, Coty announced the financial results for the first nine months and third quarter of fiscal year 2025, ending March 31, 2025. According to the report, net revenue for the third quarter of the fiscal year was $1.299 million, a 6% decline from the previous year period. Prestige net revenue over this period was $829 million with a 4% decrease and consumer beauty net revenue was $470 million with a 9% decrease. The company attributes these decreases to headwinds caused by fluctuations in exchange rates.
