Cooking with flowers x 5

Posted by Robin on 11 May 2020 Leave a Comment

To celebrate “Eat What You Want Day” (although I’m pretty sure I celebrate that most days), some cooking videos. First, a 5 minute excerpt from a documentary on cooking with flowers, from Taste France magazine. Then, below the jump, Iced Lavender Vanilla Latte, followed by Rose and Pistachio Flavoured Kulfi (this recipe calls for gulkand, which is a rose petal jam, and for kulfi molds, although you can use cups or ramekins instead).

Next, we have edible flower pressed shortbread cookies (you can find the whole recipe by clicking through to YouTube; it calls for purchasing edible flowers but you can find a nice list of edible flowers here). Last, edible flower ice cubes.

More recipes: Culinary Lavender, Fig Leaf Syrup, Bronze Goddess Ice Cream, Balmain’s Vent Vert Salad and Chicken, Jasmine and Osmanthus Tea Sorbets, Candied Buddha’s Hand

Iris Liqueur from Elixir Craft Spirits in Oregon: "Iris takes its name from its main ingredient—genuine iris root. Iris root is legendary for its delicate, violet-like scent. For centuries, Florentines cultivated iris plants in their vineyards to enhance their wines, and used iris root infusions to make floral liqueurs. The precious iris (fleur-de-lis) serves as the official emblem of Florence and the aristocracy even today." $44.99 at Potomac Wine & Spirits (see comments).

Are you needing more cute? How about Pastiglie Leone violet candies in a kitty tin? You can find the whole collection (there are puppies, too) at Emporio Italiano.

Pacifica has three Beauty Drop elixir formulas that you add to water. None of them are a good fit for me (nutritionally speaking) but I like the idea. Shown is Happy Beauty "We wanted to remove the pill from your supplement routine and make something that added joy to your day. Add flavor to your water and get beautiful benefits while you drink. Make your water work harder and lift your vibe. // Sweet lemon and lavender natural flavors meet L-Theanine, vitamin A and pomegranate juice"), $14 for 112 ml.

Yes, I am hungry at the moment, why do you ask? From Ritual Chocolate's new-ish Mountain line, the Juniper Lavender 70% bar. "Inspired by the mountains and growers of Utah, this bar is a blend of lavender grown by Lavender Hill Farms in Eden, Utah and dried juniper berries. Both ingredients are finely ground into Ritual's Mid Mountain Blend giving a floral, aromatic finish that lingers on the tongue and conjures up the scent of a high mountain meadow." About $10, and do comment if you've tried one.
