Sweet and fruity to tangy and tart

Posted by Robin on 19 April 2017 3 Comments

The Unicorn Frappuccino blended crème is made with a sweet dusting of pink powder, blended into a crème Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping.

Like its mythical namesake, the Unicorn Frappuccino blended crème comes with a bit of magic, starting as a purple beverage with swirls of blue and a first taste that is sweet and fruity. But give it a stir and its color changes to pink, and the flavor evolves to tangy and tart. The more swirl, the more the beverage’s color and flavors transform.

— Starbucks' new coffee-free Unicorn Frappuccino is available today through Sunday, or while supplies last, in the United States, Canada and Mexico. You can find some real life taste tests at Cosmo.

Chocolate-dipped coconut Peeps, just one of the brand's special flavors for 2017.  Beware, though, People magazine says the orange / orange fudge chicks taste like baby aspirin.

(Sadly, The Washington Post has cancelled their long-running and very popular Peeps Diorama contest, but the National Harbor in Baltimore took up the slack with Peeps Day, where competitive eater Matt Stonie broke the world record for eating Peeps by chowing down 255 Peeps in five minutes. If you follow that link, there's a (nauseating) video showing the contest. And here are the winners of the 2017 Peeps Diorama contest.)

What if Angel was a chocolate?

A video for the Thierry Mugler Angel + La Maison du Chocolat collaboration, including an appearance by perfumer Olivier Cresp (he does not speak, just tastes).

Here's your next chance to eat some Angel: La Maison du Chocolat's upcoming chocolate collaboration with Thierry Mugler. 14 chocolates in four Angel-inspired flavors — Celestial is milk chocolate with citrus; Delicious is cotton candy, marshmallow, red fruits and almond-hazelnut praline; Voluptuous is dark chocolate ganache with patchouli and vanilla; Star is a fruity Madagascar chocolate. Theo Salted Black Licorice

This Salted Black Licorice 70% Dark Chocolate bar is one of two flavors the Theo brand did for Valentine's Day 2017 (the other is My Cherry Baby, which is a milk chocolate bar with dried cherries). I bought one a couple weeks ago, loved it, and by the time I went back the store was already out of them. They are still selling them on the Theo website, $4 each. I am thinking about it. I am also thinking about these Rose Cardamom Espresso Chocolate Bars, but they're pretty expensive. If you're thinking about chocolate, do tell us all about it.
