Black Currant, a berry featuring a distinct yet balanced flavor profile

Posted by Robin on 11 December 2025 2 Comments

The future of flavor is here: McCormick unveils its 2026 Flavor of the Year: Black Currant, a berry featuring a distinct yet balanced flavor profile that's sweet, tart, and rich. [...] Black Currant berries are native to central and northern Europe and northern Asia. They combine tart-and-tangy with a sweet, fruity flavor that's earthy, slightly floral and herbal. The dark purple fruit has been popular for centuries in specific regions as an ingredient in jams, syrups, candies, desserts, drinks and liqueurs. It's quickly gaining popularity and is forecast to show up on global menus soon.

The absolute best sort of lemming: one that's already sold out. From Jeni's, Golden Nectar Ice Cream, with ylang!! (Looks like it was around for at least the last four summers, so maybe next year?) "Tastes like the end of a relaxing sunny day lounging by the pool — sun-kissed and perfectly refreshing. Golden Nectar is an indescribable, deliriously delicious, amber-colored gem. A yellow sweet cream made with some of Jeni’s favorite warm spices—vanilla, clove, and ylang ylang—that taste a lot like a chilled summer chai (minus the tea). It’s round and soft, with notes of nectar. And made a little flirty with firecracker-like snaps of aerated toffee candy. A Jeni’s summer classic, this is the stuff summer daydreams are made of." Do comment if you ever tasted it.
