Youth Dew Amber Nude, Estee Lauder + Tom Ford

I took the day off yesterday, so to speak, so I don’t have a real fragrance review this morning. I am testing the new Youth Dew Amber Nude, created by Tom Ford for Estee Lauder. It is a lightly spicy oriental scent (see the fragrance notes here) that pays homage to the original Youth Dew but throws in a smattering of modern notes (bare skin accord, fresh tea, ginger, chocolate). It is considerably lighter and softer than Youth Dew, but it isn’t a sheer perfume by any means. It is much, much better than I expected it would be…

Perfume in the news: the Tom Ford Estee Lauder Collection

The New York Times has an article on the debut of the new Tom Ford Estée Lauder Collection (including Youth Dew Amber Nude) at Saks last Thursday. Tom Ford appeared in person, and according to Women's Wear Daily, "...was said to have broken the store's existing attendance records for a personal appearance..."

Fortune Magazine has an interesting feature about Estee Lauder's grandchildren and their efforts to keep the family firm competitive. (link no longer works, sorry!)

There is a short roundup of the new fall fragrance releases in New York Magazine. Check it out if you haven't yet seen the pretty etched bottle for L'Artisan Fleur d'Oranger, which they describe as "maybe too light—touch-ups are required throughout the day". Thanks to Tania for the link!

The Detroit Free Press has a feature story on treatments for smell disorders (link no longer works, sorry!). I already have a healthy fear of anosmia, or the inability to smell; now I have some new things to worry about, namely, parosmia (a distorted sense of smell) and phantosmia (smelling things that aren't there).

Estee Lauder will launch Youth Dew Amber Nude in early November. It will be lighter than the original Youth Dew, as Tom Ford explains:
