Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2008, part 9

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

From Hermès, a new limited edition bottle of Eau des Merveilles illustrated by Alice Charbin (she also does the drawings on their website). 100 ml Eau de Toilette, 85€…

Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang fragrance

Estee Lauder has launched the second in its series of Private Collection fragrances designed by Creative Director Aerin Lauder: Amber Ylang Ylang. Like last year's Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, it will be in tighter distribution than the “regular” Estee Lauder fragrances.

Warm and inviting. Luminous and intimate. The richness of amber and ylang ylang combine with the luxurious depth of sandalwood and vanilla…

Snippets: smoke, soap, Sensuous

Some fragrances from that period seem to have been designed with smoke in mind to be mixed at the time of use, one half of some ambient gin and tonic. It was as if the composed smell needed an audience: perfume supplied the music, smoke the crowd noises.

An enormous coup

“Boy, they really sold out — Hearst — didn’t they?” said Allan Mottus, a beauty industry analyst who publishes the Informationist, a trade publication. Mr. Mottus added: “You have to take your hat off to Lauder. It is an enormous coup.”
