The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 25 March 2017 12 Comments

Yes, I'm still thinking about dental care. Marvis has a new-ish trio of limited edition flavors, the Wonders of the World: Karakum ("...an imaginary journey across the Black Sea to Persia, Mongolian deserts and Eastern China...a sophisticated flavor that combines the finest peppermint with the sweetness of orange juice along with the enchanting and aromatic cardamom"), Royal (shown; "...luxurious trips on the orient express...combining zesty Italian lemon oil, tangerines, fragrant rose extract and nutmeg") and Rambas ("...the beaches and exotic atmospheres of tropical islands...a fruity, velvety taste that combines ripe peach and sweet pineapple with a twist of sweet alphonso mango"). $15 each at Bigelow Chemists.

To mix and match with Lush Toothy Tabs, perhaps? Cocofloss dental floss in Cara Cara Orange, Pure Strawberries and Fresh Coconut. "Unlike other flosses that slip and slide, Cocofloss scrubs like a loofah to truly scrub your surfaces clean." (I don't really want to know what that means, I just want some dental floss that tastes like Cara Cara oranges. Right now I am using Dr. Tungs Smart Floss in Cardamom, and it is quite nice too.) $8 each at Bigelow Chemists.

Lush Toothy Tabs in Sparkle, Oral Pleasure & Limelight ~ scented body product review

Lush Toothy Tabs Sparkle, Oral Pleasure & Limelight

As long as they’ve been around, Lush have excelled at rethinking everyday bath and body products as novelties. Bubble bath in a solid orb? Body scrub molded into a palm-sized square? A heart-shaped bar of lotion? Check. Now they’ve transformed the most basic self-care ritual of all with a “solid toothpaste alternative” called Toothy Tabs.

Toothy Tabs are small pellets about the size of aspirin tablets, packaged in a container not unlike an actual aspirin bottle. You pop one “tab” into your mouth, chew it lightly so that it breaks up a bit (don’t swallow!), and then start pushing it around with a wet toothbrush. The tab will dissolve into a gently abrasive foam that really does an effective job…

Father’s Day 2013 ~ scented gift suggestions

Posted by Kevin on 29 May 2013 26 Comments

father's day

My father is deceased. My partner and I wouldn’t dream of calling each other “Dad” or “Pa” (nor do either of us qualify as “sugar daddy” to the other). My two cats are treated like children, but neither is smart enough to buy me a present. Father’s Day is pretty meaningless at my house! How’s that for a kick-off to this article? Personal life aside, I hear people all around me complaining about Father’s Day: fathers are often disappointed in the gifts they receive, suspecting the gift is more for the giver, than the receiver (tickets to shows and games, fancy dinners at restaurants); children struggle to buy something original that will still be enjoyed. Since my “beat” is perfume, here are some scented suggestions if you’re still searching for a gift.

Let’s start with the head; the locus of male drudgery — shaving. Classic Shaving offers some cool gift options: its retro, and colorful, Pinaud-Clubman set includes five, 12.5 oz bottles of Lime Sec and Citrus Musk Eaux de Cologne, Lilac Vegetal, Bay Rum and Clubman “Original” aftershave lotions, $50 (or the same set in 6 oz bottles for $30); the Thiers Issard Super Badger 26mm Shaving Brush is beautiful (the bristles are set into a desert ironwood base), $230; present the brush with a tin of Pré de Provence Shaving Cream, 150 g, sage scent, $15. Have a dad with whiskers? Give him some beard soap and beard tonic from Ireland…
