Iconosm exhibit at Living With Art

Posted by Robin on 15 June 2005 5 Comments

The Living With Art Gallery in NYC is hosting a series of installations by photographer Laurent Elie Badessi and perfumer Christophe Laudamiel:

The installations play with the interaction between image, color and scent -- palpable and impalpable. "Iconosm", a new word coined by the artists, comes from the ancient Greek words icon (image) and osme (scent). "The sense of smell which is directly linked to one's subconscious dramatically heightens the viewer's emotional state". The various scents are specifically designed for and indissociable from each installation, including one originally developed as part of a study with NASA.

Living With Art is located at 153 Lafayette Street, 7th floor, and the exhibit runs through July 9. (via press release from Living With Art)

Mr. Urquhart has been shortlisted for Beck's Futures 2005, one of the UK's most generous art awards.

Mr. Urquhart's exhibit, titled “Another Graveyard”, will explore themes of death and bereavement, and will include a fragrance dispersed into the air by an automatic atomizer:

The 41-year-old artist named the fragrance he created, Darnley, after Mary Queen of Scots' flamboyant husband, Lord Darnley. This fictitious cologne would have been popular among gay men in Edinburgh in the 1930s, Urquhart says…
