The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 8 May 2020 15 Comments

Cire Trudon's latest candle: "At the base of the High Atlas Mountains, the Ourika Valley is where it flourishes: iris thrives on sun and an essentially pure rural life. La Belle Matière Ourika marries a floral head note composed of gardenia, rose and magnolia with the spicy notes of benzoin and pink peppercorns to highlight iris’ sensual and powdery nature." $115.

The Oka Rose Fumée candle: "The English brand OKA has always had a passion for designing stunning homes, where nothing is too precious to be enjoyed... and could this be truer of anything more than a candle, made by Cire Trudon, the world’s oldest active candle manufacturer? [...] The heady, smoky scent of burning cedar, sandalwood and silver birch drifts up to the majestic stone balcony where the woman stands to observe the festivities. Amidst the clearing of lemon and orange trees far below, the crackling flames of the bonfire snake up to meet the twinkling indigo sky. As the people dance, the delicate, dewy petals of the morning’s freshly bloomed roses are long forgotten." £75 for 250g. You can read more about the collection here. Hat tip to David!

Cire Trudon Salta candle ~ home fragrance review

Posted by Kevin on 13 January 2020 12 Comments

Considered by the Chinese as one of the three holy fruits with peach and lemon, the grapefruit was a symbol of prosperity and fertility. Also highly prized by the Greeks and the Romans, the hesperide has a crisp freshness: known for its rich terroir and unique soil, the Salta region enhances the citrus’ intensity. Blended with verbena and hyacinth, the grapefruit fragrance is aromatic. ~ Cire Trudon

In those three sentences, Cire Trudon references Italy, Greece, China and…Argentina (its beautiful Salta region does produce citrus…but is more well known for its lemons)…

Let the holiday candle season begin...the Fir (Pine) candle from Cire Trudon for holiday 2019. "...the brand’s Pine candle features woody notes of Siberian pine, Chinese cedar and Spanish cistus, evoking the cosy warmth of being indoors on a winter’s day. Crafted from rich beeswax, it will fill your home with gorgeous fragrance that last long after you’ve blown out the flame." Available in 270g, or in a holiday gift set, 3 x 100g, along with Gabriel and Nazareth. (Several of their other candles are also available at the moment in these limited edition, foiled glass finishes, including Ernesto, Amber and Solis Rex.) At Selfridges in the UK.

Trudon Elae & Medie ~ fragrance reviews

Posted by Kevin on 25 September 2019 14 Comments

Cire Trudon, one of my favorite candle-makers, has released two new perfumes: Elae and Médie (both by perfumer Yann Vasnier). Of Trudon’s first round of five perfumes, I liked two and loved one: Olim.

Elae
(bergamot, apple, neroli, ylang-ylang, jasmine, tuberose, sandalwood, akigalawood, benzoin); 100 ml Eau de Parfum, $210

Elae begins with bergamot, sweet jasmine, tuberose and a tart “apple” aroma. Elae’s apple note has a green/unripe character. This fruity note also reminds me of young pineapple (at low volume) and the scent of those hard-as-rocks strawberries that ship from California all year…
