The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 5 March 2025 3 Comments

Trudon has a new oud and peony home fragrance collection, Altaïr, but what caught my eye was a recent collaboration with the luxury hotel Le Bristol Paris: "On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Le Bristol Paris, Maison Trudon has developed an exclusive fragrance: Honoré. The Honoré fragrance pays homage to the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, as well as the iconic address of the hotel, located on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Created as a bespoke composition by perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur, the fragrance draws inspiration from the emblematic flour mill installed in the basement of Le Bristol Paris. It also evokes the aura of the establishment, a true temple of French and Parisian gastronomy." With notes of yeast, wheat, cedar, hay and vetiver, available in 270g ($145) and 2.8kg candles and in a 375 ml room spray ($280).

Cire Trudon's holiday collection for 2024 includes four candles ("On the inside, they are covered in 24-carat gold leaf, while on the outside, a royal décor comes to life with stylized chandeliers, pendants and curtains"). Arosa in cream/beige ("...invites the femininity of rose and the hushed character of amber to the festivities. A true woody bouquet, its rose fragrance welcomes a rich mix of amber, sandalwood, cashmere wood and cedar notes, softened by a light vanilla base note"), Angelo (shown) in green and gold ("...unfolds as a comforting woody-amber scent: rich with gourmand notes of orange and cinnamon, Angelo blends cashmere wood and marron glacé before revealing musky base notes"), Fir in black ("Hints of myrrh and incense absolute bring depth to the perfume’s head notes - Siberian pine and fir tree) and Gloria in red ("...warms the room with the scent of firewood – composed of notes of Indonesian Patchouli, Haitian Vetiver and cedarwood. Wrapped around it are spicy notes of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, and a hint of citruses"). In 3 sizes, 270g ($150), 800g ($365) and 2.8kg ($750).

Literally doused

Louis XIV served as inspiration for ‘Absolu’. When he was raised as the Sun King, he imposed his tastes on all aspects of court life, including perfume. The young king detested the pungent, animal notes used by most and preferred the more delicate floral notes. Orange blossom was his absolute favourite.

He would require to be literally doused with orange blossom water in the mornings. They would use large syringe-like devices to spray the scented water on him and his garments.
