Holiday fragrance gifts 2016, part 1

Posted by Robin on 29 November 2016 38 Comments

Today, the first in our eight-part series on fragrance related holiday gifts. We’re starting off late (we usually start on Black Friday, but lateness is one of my personal themes for 2016) and we’re starting off (relatively) cheap, with stocking stuffers and cheap thrills. Do add any of your own recommendations in the comments!

Hiram Green Dilettante 10 ml

From Hiram Green, Dilettante in 10 ml Eau de Parfum: “Aglow with the gentle buzz of a luscious garden after a daytime rain shower, Dilettante, the latest all-natural scent from Hiram Green, is a delightfully playful tribute to the innocent joys of summer.” $45 at Luckyscent…

Friday scent of the day 11/25

Posted by Robin on 25 November 2016 209 Comments

Carnation Kaleidoscope

Happy Black Friday / Buy Nothing Day! Be careful out there. And happy Cheap Thrills Friday. Our community project for today: wear something that costs $50 or below, double bonus points if it costs $25 or below. No points for wearing something expensive that you bought cheaply via a sample or decant or somesuch! We’re trying to find real bargains here.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m wearing a dab of Old Spice, the original. Double bonus points for me — you can get 125 ml of the Classic Cologne for less than $15…

Aroma Sanctum Mermaid & Beachscape ~ fragrance reviews

Posted by Jessica on 21 July 2016 5 Comments

Aroma Sanctum Beachscape brand image

A few years ago, I reviewed a little bottle of perfume oil called Scarlett Letter that I’d bought at Aroma Sanctum in Salem, Massachusetts. I recently ordered more of this fragrance, since I still love it and it brings back happy memories. While I was at it, I also purchased sample vials of some other “House Blends,” including two beachy scents called Mermaid and Beachscape that sounded perfect for summer.

Mermaid is described as a “lively and fascinating ocean scent” with notes of tangerine, grapefruit, grass, hyacinth, tuberose, oakmoss, benzoin, patchouli and ambergris. It starts with a citrus accord that reminds me more of bergamot than tangerine or grapefruit, and there’s a soft, buttery tuberose note buried in its heart, but most of Mermaid is an airy-woody fragrance with a dry, breezy feeling…

4 shower gels ~ quick body product reviews & a quick “what’s in your shower” poll

Posted by Robin on 26 February 2016 169 Comments

Roger & Gallet Rose, Weleda Sea Buckthorn cream shower gels

I love scented shower gels, and since I do use up every bottle I buy, I have way less guilt about buying plenty of them than I do about buying more perfume — I don’t even need Donatella’s absolution. Here are quick reviews of 4 current favorites (Roger & Gallet Rose, Weleda Sea Buckthorn, Lush Happy Hippy, EO Grapefruit & Mint) along with a quick poll.

Roger & Gallet Rose Gentle Shower Cream

I love cream-formula shower gels in winter: they may or may not be less drying, but they certainly feel less drying on my parched winter skin. A kind person gave me a tube of Roger & Gallet’s Green Tea Gentle Shower Cream, and I liked the gentle but decently-sudsing formula. The fragrance, however, was too aggressively clean for my taste. I figured I’d give the Rose a shot to see if it could be a decent winter alternative to Lush Rose Jam, which as we all know has chronic availability issues, and is not exactly a bargain…

Prism Parfums Geminesse ~ fragrance review

Posted by Angela on 4 January 2016 34 Comments

Geminesse

We fans of floral leather fragrances may be in the minority, but we’re passionate. There’s something about floral delicacy playing against rough, salty leather, and even better when the leather is softened by moss. If you love floral leathers, the Prism Parfums reissue of Geminesse won’t cause you to abandon your bottle of Chanel Cuir de Russie, but it’s worth a sniff — especially at its price.

Max Factor first released Geminesse in 1974…
