Posted by Robin on 29 May 2007 4 Comments

Perfume Dinner Is a Feast for the Nose, on this morning's NPR Morning Edition, reports on an event at the Carlyle Hotel in which Chandler Burr hosts a "gourmet dinner designed to show how perfume can enhance food and drink". Perfumes featured include Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. Thanks to Jessica for the link!

Update: read more about the dinner at Food & Wine, or see the swag you get for attending (the dinner costs $200) at New York Insider (link no longer active, sorry!). Upcoming dinners are planned for Dallas and Santa Fe, find out more at rosewoodhotels.

Turin has developed a new theory of smell, which he attempts to bring under the attention of the academic community. His ideas on how smell works are radically different from those of the ‘established’ researchers in the field, and go against all principles by which manufacturers produce synthetic odorants. As Turin submits his paper to the renowned magazine Nature, his hopes for glory are clouded by a mist of opposition: the road to recognition proves to be long and arduous.

The resistence to Turin’s theory is the main theme in the second half of the book…
