Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely ~ perfume review

Posted by Robin on 5 July 2005 64 Comments

Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely fragrance

Lovely is Sarah Jessica Parker’s first fragrance release. It was created by perfumers Laurent Le Guernec and Clement Gavarry. It is due for official launch this August, but is already available at Nordstroms, who have exclusive rights until September. Lovely is described as “a “silky white amber” and has notes of mandarin, bergamot, rosewood, lavender, apple martini, patchouli, paper whites, orchid, cedar, white amber, musk and woods.

The word on the fragrance forums is that Lovely is very similar to Narciso Rodriguez For Her, which I found hard to believe given the list of notes. After trying it, I am not so surprised, but I can’t say just how close they are because I only know what Narciso Rodriguez smells like from reading reviews — one whiff and my throat and nose seize up instantly. Cumming: the fragrance

Alan Cumming for Cumming: The Fragrance

Cumming: the fragrance is the brainchild of actor Alan Cumming, nose Christopher Brosius and creative director Jason Schell. It features notes of bergamot, black pepper, scotch pine, whiskey, cigar, heather, douglas fir, rubber, leather, Highland mud, peat fire, and white truffle.

According to the Cumming: the fragrance website, this is “a scent that is all about Sex, Scotch, Cigars and Scotland”. The top notes have all of the above, plus a heavy dose of pine and some burning rubber. It does not strike me as a perfume that is likely to sell based on the first whiff from a testing strip, and I wonder how it is doing in Sephora, where it will be competing with fragrances that are designed to smell better on paper than they do on skin…
