Posted by Robin on 22 January 2014 26 Comments

Cartier La Panthère

Cartier will launch La Panthère, a new fragrance for women, in March. The panther has been Cartier’s symbol since 1914 and frequently appears in Cartier jewelry designs. La Panthère will be fronted by model Erin Wasson…

Cartier Eau de Cartier Zeste de Soleil, with an aside on Baiser Vole Essence de Parfum ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 14 January 2014 30 Comments

Cartier Eau de Cartier Zeste de Soleil

Hey, who doesn’t need a little zeste de soleil right about now? (If it’s warm where you are, no bragging please!) Zeste de Soleil is the latest flanker to Cartier’s Eau de Cartier, a fragrance I’ve always liked but never adored quite enough to buy a bottle. It joins Eau de Cartier Essence d’Orange (which was not as wonderful as I hoped), Eau de Cartier Essence de Bois (a great pencil-shavings scent darkened with a drop of oud) and Eau de Cartier Goutte de Rose (which I have not smelled — do comment if you have).

Zeste de Soleil is apparently meant to be the exotic-slash-tropical entry in the series; it adds passion fruit to the original mix of yuzu and mint. The top notes are the perfect antidote to the grey, dreary, rainy weather we’re having here lately: an energetic burst of what smells like flash-frozen grapefruit peel…

Best Men’s Fragrances of 2011-2012-2013 (Better Late Than Never)

Posted by Kevin on 8 January 2014 21 Comments

Self Portrait, Dick Ket

Did I really skip 2011 and 2012 when it came to writing my annual best-of-men’s-perfumes post? (Wow…and the world kept turning — imagine that!) I’m two years behind so today I’ll catch up by picking my favorite men’s fragrances from 2011, 2012 and 2013 (you can see my picks for 2009 and 2010 here). Some of these perfumes are unisex, but with a masculine edge (to my nose anyway). Though I missed my fair share of fragrance releases, I’ve still smelled tons of perfume product in the last three years. I don’t feel that a masterpiece escaped my attention.

Every year, I tend to write about men’s fragrances that I either “love” or “hate” (using those verbs with feather-weight intent since I don’t cry over favorite perfumes gone missing or reformulated, and I don’t gnaw on my fingers when I encounter awful perfumes). I’m still, I believe, a Perfumista, but I’ve put perfume in its proper place…

Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2013, part 28

Posted by Robin on 12 December 2013 7 Comments

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles — presumably the last lot for 2013 — with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Gucci Guilty Stud editions

From Gucci, Gucci Guilty in the Stud Limited Editions. Guilty Stud Limited Edition in 50 ml Eau de Toilette, Guilty Stud Limited Edition Pour Homme in 90 ml Eau de Toilette. Both are “adorned with more than 400 studs per bottle”; both can be found at Harrods in the UK…

Acqua di Parma candle holder and Colonia candle

From Acqua di Parma, a candle holder fashioned from wenge wood and buffalo skin: “The wood’s strength and hardness, along with its black streaked dark hues, blend perfectly with the soft and compact brown buffalo skin that trims the entire edge. The leather has a discreet hot stamped logo.” £140 at Harrods in the UK, Colonia candle is sold separately, £53…
