Bvlgari Jasmin Noir perfumeBvlgari will launch Jasmin Noir, a new woody floral fragrance for women, this coming August. The fragrance is slightly more expensive than Bvlgari's Rose Essentielle, and Bvlgari hopes “it will also capture a new consumer looking for something more prestigious”.

Jasmin Noir was developed by perfumers Carlos Benaïm and Sophie Labbé…

Mariah Carey Luscious Pink ~ new fragrance

Mariah Carey Luscious Pink perfumeMariah Carey will follow up on last year's M by Mariah Carey with Luscious Pink, her second fragrance for women. Luscious Pink is described as a sparkling floral, and was designed to perform well in the Asian market where Carey has a large fan base.

Like M by Mariah Carey, Luscious Pink was developed by perfumers Carlos Benaim and Loc Dong, who noted that the new scent is “a floral melody that is as enveloping as Mariah's voice”…

Calvin Klein will launch Euphoria Men Intense, a followup to 2006’s Euphoria Men fragrance, in early 2008.

The new scent includes notes of ginger pepper, hydroponic sage, oudh wood, vetiver, amber, myrrh and labdanum. The oriental amber is said to be richer and sweeter than the original Euphoria Men…

Ralph Lauren Polo fragrance

I’m reviewing the “bookends” of the Ralph Lauren Polo men’s line of fragrances: Polo (1978) and Polo Explorer (2007). Though I’ve bought lots of Ralph Lauren products over the years, everything from paint to jeans to a pair of canary-yellow-and-lime-green cowboy boots (hey, I was 19!), I have only owned (and worn) one Ralph Lauren fragrance: Monogram (1985). I remember Monogram as a quiet, slightly powdery, wood scent with beautiful blue juice. Monogram was suddenly discontinued (some conjecture the blue coloring in the formula caused allergic reactions on skin). Since Monogram, I’ve never been tempted to buy a Ralph Lauren cologne…

M by Mariah Carey ~ fragrance review

M by Mariah Carey perfume advert

It seems like there was a whole spate of articles not too long ago proclaiming that celebrity fragrances were “over”, they weren’t selling any more, etc. etc. If there is any truth to the notion, you won’t find the evidence at the fragrance counters this month. Mariah Carey is only the latest of celebrity fragrance debuts, and if you mean to smell them all, you’ve a long road ahead of you yet this year.

Mariah Carey went with the name M. It isn’t wildly creative on its own merits, and it seems even less so given that we just got L from Gwen Stefani. Are full words too risky in today’s over-saturated fragrance market? What will happen when all the letters of the alphabet are used up? We’ve already got F (Ferragamo), another L (Lolita Lempicka), S (Scherrer), V (Valentino), XX (Hugo Boss), and probably others that aren’t coming to mind at the moment.

The M fragrance itself was developed by perfumers Carlos Benaim and Loc Dong, and is advertised as a floriental…
