Candle report: Red Flower Indian Jasmine

Posted by Victoria on 26 October 2005 8 Comments

Capturing a grove of night blooming jasmine is a next to impossible task for a candle, yet Red Flower Indian Jasmine comes close. At first, the scent is subtle and gentle, a bare whisper of white flowers, however about half an hour after lighting the candle, one is suddenly surrounded by the opulent fragrance of jasmine. The scent is rich, yet soft, vacillating between green jasmine flowers and barely opened gardenia buds. The alluring scent makes Indian Jasmine candle a perfect choice for a romantic evening.

Despite my affection for the fragrance…

Home fragrance: Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum candle

Posted by Victoria on 29 September 2005 2 Comments

Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum candleOne needs not rub the lamp in order to release a genie, for a mere touch of flame to the wick of the Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum candle would suffice. Like the eponymous fragrance, Loukhoum is redolent of amber, hawthorn blossoms, almonds, vanilla and musk. A sweet note of rose petal jam lends a gourmand touch that on the skin envelops the wearer in cashmere shawl-like warmth. In the air, the same luscious and sensual scent has a scintillating quality, vacillating between maraschino cherry encrusted with almond shavings and amber layered white blossoms…

Candle report: L’Artisan Sous La Glycine

Posted by Victoria on 15 September 2005 7 Comments

L'Artisan Parfumeur Sous La Glycine candle

A scent of flowers blooming in the garden carried by the wind through the opened veranda door — opulent white lily, delicate whisper of jasmine, soft acacia, overlaid with a bit of foliage. Although the scent is supposed to be predominantly wisteria, this is not what I smell in the air when the L’Artisan Sous La Glycine candle is burned. To my nose, it is more of a floral mélange with a hint of grass, leaves, green twigs to lend it freshness. Very long lasting and beautiful…

Home fragrance: Floris of London Grapefruit & Rosemary

Posted by Victoria on 31 August 2005 6 Comments

A flame inside a beautiful cobalt glass on my dresser unleashes not only a blue tinged soft light, but also a wonderful scent. The fragrance is tart and crisp with enough sweetness to lend a nice balance and to meld all the notes together. One moment, it is a plate laden with grapefruit slices sprinkled with sugar and lemony coriander seeds; the next, it is a bouquet of garden herbs about to be chopped in the course of dinner preparations.

The fruity scent of the Grapefruit and Rosemary candle was my introduction to the Floris room fragrance range…

Candle report: Cote Bastide Figuier

Posted by Victoria on 24 August 2005 Leave a Comment

Cote Bastide Figuier candle

When it comes to candles, the scents not only should be interesting, potent and lingering, but also should serve an aromatherapeutic function. Figuier by Côté Bastide is a perfect relaxing candle, with the scent that conjures associations with sunny days of summer. The white wax is permeated with the aroma of verdant leaves, young twigs and sticky green figs. This is not a honeyed scent of a ripe fruit, but a spicy crisp fragrance of a green fig that oozes milky sap onto the hot stones underneath the tree. A hint of green almond adds a pleasant subtle sweetness that swirls in the air like a gentle Mediterranean breeze…
