From Byredo, the limited edition Trois Encens set: "Uncover a sensory experience like no other with the Trois Encens set from Byredo, featuring 60 incense sticks in three of the brands’ iconic perfumes – Bibliothèque, Tree House, and Burning Rose. Handmade in Tokyo through techniques dating back to 400 years, these fragrance sticks are larger than traditional Japanese incense, which results in a slower burn time so you can take in the captivating aroma for longer. Housed inside an intricately embossed pewter holder, this coveted selection makes for an ideal gift to ignite moments of reflection and calm." £90 at Liberty.

Maybe this is the one

Even though the Byredo collection contains a multitude of cult fragrances such as Gypsy Water and Bal d’Afrique, Gorham famously does not wear fragrance himself. “Well, I wear them during the creation process,” he admits, claiming he does not have favourites. ”I love them all individually, for different reasons. I have unique relationships with them, but Mumbai Noise is quite dear to my heart. It represents more of a tangible part of myself, whereas some of the others are projections or from other experiences. This is truly connected to myself and my family. Maybe this is the one.”

— Ben Gorham of Byredo talks to Vogue India about Mumbai Noise. Read more in ‘Mumbai Noise’ is perfumer Ben Gorham's olfactory ode to his Indian roots.

The holiday gift collection from Byredo features "...collector’s edition boxes for the holiday season, drawing on the vivid visual language of Madhubani painting and inspired by Ben Gorham’s Indian heritage. Decorated with Bihar-based artist Mamta Devi’s colourful, geometric accents..." Bal d'Afrique, as shown, $240 for 50 ml, or a travel spray box with Blanche, Bal d’Afrique and Gypsy Water is $245. There are also holiday candles, a tin of holiday Chai tea ($45), a snow globe ($150), and more; you can see the collection at Byredo.

Not knowing

Not knowing what to begin with was an asset, one of the many joys of being an outsider. I had no framework, which also meant I had no constraints. I wanted to create moments in time linked to memory or emotion, which may not have been possible if I had years of experience in an industry that often starts from a marketing approach to developing new products.
