The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 12 November 2019 11 Comments

In case you happen to have a hefty gift certificate to Buly 1803 and can't decide what to do with it, here's La Douzaine Parfumée, a discovery set with twelve 10 ml sprays: "All the chords are easily harmonised together or individually impregnated directly on your body. Cheeks, neck, hair and beard are soaked in the essence of your choice. From the first twelve hours until noon to another ones until midnight, there will always be a scent surrounding to impress you. The Scented Dozen is a rhythmic and Parisian prelude to your next olfactory strolls." €167.

I suppose I might be able to make room on my shelf for Eau Triple La Baigneuse, the fragrance perfumer Daniela Andrier created as an interpretation of the Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres painting The Valpinçon Bather, which hangs at The Louvre, who as you may remember asked Buly 1803 to come up with a few fragrances based on their collection. The collection is out now, 8 fragrances, each available in a variety of items including scented postcards, candles, soap sheets, alabasters (I'm still jealous of Jessica's) and spray perfumes. Here's the description for La Baigneuse, which is €125: "Steam rising from marble sluiced with waves of heated water, dampened muslin wraps the shining limbs, delicately soaped; susurrations of the hammam. After bathing, resting on fresh sheets, the skin, still beaded with moisture, is chafed with lavender and orange blossom; now refreshed, its velvety pallor like an iris petal pearled by a mist of incense and musk."

What the Venus de Milo smells like

She was one of the great beauties of antiquity, and soon we are going to find out what the "Venus de Milo" smells like.

The Louvre in Paris has asked two of France's top "noses" -- otherwise known as perfume creators -- to come up with fragrances to go with some of its greatest treasures.

Should yesterday's Buly 1803 Lait Virginal Orange Blossom Body Milk happen to fall into my hands (not likely), I guess this is what I'd need to layer over it: Eau Triple Berkane Orange Blossom Perfume (also from Buly 1803, and thus equally unlikely). "Dazzling and bright, the scent bursts with fresh orange blossoms and leaves, capturing a soft, sweet breeze dancing through budding branches of neroli. Free from alcohol and ethanol, this water-based scent can be used on both the skin and hair without leaving them dehydrated" $243NZD (about $160US) for 75 ml at Mecca in New Zealand.

Aha. Why is this never on the mark down shelf at Ross? Lait Virginal Orange Blossom Body Milk from Buly 1803: "Bathing in milk was loved by Cleopatra, who was known for having beautiful skin, and you too can reap similar benefits with Buly 1803's 'Lait Virginal'. This scented lotion leaves your skin hydrated and radiant, ensuring that all skin types are gently nourished. The 'Orange Blossom' fragrance is fruity and floral, with Neroli notes. The bottle itself is intricately designed - perfect for placing beside the bathtub, next to one of the brand's scented candles." $56 for 220 ml at Net-a-Porter.
