Roja Dove’s Haute Parfumerie at Harrods ~ shopping for perfume in London

Posted by Guest Shopper on 2 March 2008 — 0 Comments — Comments are closed

Haute Parfumerie at Harrods, London

Roja Dove’s temple of scent is part of something called the ‘Urban Retreat’. The word ‘retreat’ is significant here, as the place is tucked away on the top floor of Harrods, and something of a challenge to find.

The trick is to choose the right set of escalators. Ignore the fancy Egyptian escalators in the heart of the building, and instead look for the smaller white-walled space between the Cosmetics Hall and Hans Crescent. Ride this all the way to the fifth floor, and you’ll find yourself just outside the Urban Retreat (lots of niche skincare brands). Go in, and there’s a doorway ahead of you on the right, which takes you into the Haute Parfumerie.

If you’ve ended up on the Egyptian escalators, you’ll arrive on the fifth floor amid lots of sporting goods. The signs will direct you to the right for the Urban Retreat. Ignore them, and head left instead, through the bistro bar. This will deposit you right outside the Haute Parfumerie…

Harrods ~ shopping for perfume in London

HarrodsJust after Christmas each year, an elegant commercial is shown on UK TV, which goes ‘There is only one sale. There is only one Harrods.’.

Well, if you had limited perfume-sniffin’ time in London, there is only one store to choose…and that’s Harrods.

I sometimes think of it as ‘Horrids’, not because it’s an unpleasant place — it isn’t by any means — but because it’s just so HUGE and so busy. There are four and a half large halls on the ground floor devoted to perfume and cosmetics…

Les Senteurs ~ shopping for perfume in London

Posted by Guest Shopper on 21 December 2007 — 0 Comments — Comments are closed

Les Senteurs perfumeryLes Senteurs is a tiny piece of big excitement on the edge of Belgravia — a specialist scent boutique run by an expert with a passion for perfume.

The thing that strikes you most as you come into Les Senteurs is how small a space it is. However, they’ve countered that by running the shelves up to the ceiling — this is a place where you need the services of an assistant with a stepladder!

Luckily, the assistants are invariably fantastic. This is a perfume shop where the staff don’t have to be sweet-talked into giving you samples…

TJ Maxx report 12/07

Posted by Robin on 2 December 2007 22 Comments

Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme fragranceI don't score very often at TJ Maxx. Last December I found a bottle of Guerlain's Anisia Bella, and that was it until yesterday, when I came upon Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme, a fragrance that's been lingering on my wishlist ever since I first tried it back in back in 2005. If you love cedar and incense, do get to TJ Maxx. Tumulte Homme is even nicer than I remembered, and I paid only $14.99 for 50 ml.

While I was at it, I picked up a bottle of Jean Couturier's Coriandre ($7.99 for 30 ml). Coriandre was my signature scent…
