Paestum Rose by Eau d’Italie ~ perfume review

Eau d'Italie Paestum Rose fragrance

Paestum Rose is the second fragrance release from Eau d’Italie. Described as a “contemporary take on the legendary origins of Italian perfume making”, it takes as its inspiration the roses of Paestum (for background, see here).

Like Eau d’Italie’s eponymous fragrance release of last year, Paestum Rose was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and is designated as a unisex scent. The notes include davana, cinnamon, black pepper, pink pepper, coriander, black currant buds, Turkish rose, peony, incense, osmanthus, elemi, tea, papyrus, benzoin, myrrh, opoponax, vetiver, patchouli, cedar, wenge wood, amber and white musk.

L'Artisan Dzongkha fragrance to debut this fall

Trongsa Dzong in Bhutan

L’Artisan will introduce Dzongkha this fall. It will be the third fragrance in the travel series that includes Bois Farine and Timbuktu, and like Timbuktu, it was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. Dzongkha was inspired by Bhutan, and more specifically by the “odors of stones and incense from the temples called Dzongs…”

Comme des Garcons Rhubarb ~ Sherbet series

Rhubarb is one of the three fragrances in the Sherbet series, which was launched in 2003 by Comme des Garçons. It was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and the notes include bergamot, rhubarb, litchee, orchid sap, cognassier flower, vanilla cream and wenge wood.

Rhubarb is a little novelty fragrance from a line that specializes in little novelty fragrances…

Comme des Garcons Kyoto & Ouarzazate, from series 3: incense

Comme des Garcons incense fragrance series

Kyoto & Ouarzazate are two of the five fragrances in the Incense series by Comme des Garçons, which was released in 2002. If you are not familiar with this series, see yesterday’s review of Avignon & Jaisalmer for an introduction.

Kyoto pays tribute to the incense culture in Japan, where incense is a traditional part of both Shinto and Buddhist practices, and in earlier times was also used a time measuring device. Kodo, the Japanese incense ceremony, originated in Kyoto. Like the better known tea ceremony, it is a combination of social gathering and art form. During the ceremony, the incense woods are heated at a low temperature, so that the aroma is released with little or no smoke…
