Estee Lauder Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche Skinscent ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 21 March 2007 26 Comments

Estee Lauder Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche Skinscent

Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche Skinscent is part of this year’s Tom Ford Estee Lauder Collection, and will launch as a limited edition this coming April. Other than the inspiration (“the Mediterranean near Mrs. Estée Lauder’s vacation home in Cap d’Antibes, off the coast of France”), it has nothing in common with the original 1969 Azuree fragrance from Estee Lauder. The notes include tiare (gardenia), orange blossom, jasmine, magnolia petals, myrrh, bergamot, mandarin, amber, sandalwood, vetiver, caramel and coconut cream.

I have said before that I’m not a big fan of tropical-beachy or suntan oil scents, and so when the Azuree Soleil Body Oil was released last year, I didn’t rush to try it. By the time I got around to giving it a sniff, all the stores were sold out. Even then, the little tiny sample I managed to snag didn’t make much of an impression on me. Still, everyone else raved about it so I was curious about the new Eau Fraiche Skinscent…

Bobbi Brown Beach & CB I Hate Perfume At The Beach 1966 ~ the scent of summer

Posted by Robin on 28 July 2006 16 Comments

rehoboth

Bobbi Brown launched her Beach fragrance in 2002, and it has been a best seller for the brand since then. The notes include summery sand, jasmine, sea spray, dianthus dune flower, neroli petals and driftwood.

Bobbi Brown Beach isn’t a tropical sort of beach fragrance, like J Lo’s Miami Glow or Matthew Williamson’s eponymous scent; it smells like an Atlantic beach vacation (East Coast of the US, to be more exact): a bit of fresh sea air, a bit of salt water, and the very synthetic smell of sunscreen. The opening is a wee bit sharp, and rather reminiscent of some of the sunscreen sprays that have suddenly become popular at my own local pool this summer, but it settles nicely. I have seen the smell compared to Coppertone, and it does have something rather Coppertone-ish about it, but it isn’t the dead ringer for Coppertone that is At The Beach 1966…

J Lo Miami Glow & Love at First Glow by Jennifer Lopez ~ perfume reviews

Posted by Robin on 31 January 2006 33 Comments

J Lo Miami Glow

J Lo followed up on the success of her first fragrance, Glow, with two limited edition variations, both repeating the shape of the original bottle and including the requisite bling accessories. The first, Miami Glow, was released in 2005. It was created by perfumer Caroline Sabas, and aims at a slightly younger customer than the original Glow. It has notes of pink grapefruit, coconut water, passion fruit, blackcurrant, orange flower, heliotrope, cyclamen, sheer amber, crystal musk, vanilla orchid and blond musk.

I am not terribly fond of beach-y fragrances, so I fully expected Miami Glow to be a scrubber…

Fragrance of the day: Matthew Williamson

Posted by Robin on 16 August 2005 22 Comments

Matthew Williamson fragrance

Matthew Williamson is the first global scent release from the UK designer of the same name. It follows Incense, which was created in conjunction with Lyn Harris of Miller Harris and released on a smaller scale as a limited edition in 2002. Incense was a big hit with perfume fans on the many fragrance forums, but it is sadly unobtainable now.

His new fragrance was inspired by an exotic beach…
