BirdProject Soap from Goods That Matter: "Each black, bird-shaped soap contains a handmade ceramic bird, which remains as a keepsake once the outer soap has washed away. Through the daily act of washing, you will eventually free the clean, white, ceramic birds inside - potent symbols of restoration and recovery. The soap is shaped to be cradled in your hand and is a powerful representation of all creatures affected by the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster. The soaps are made with natural, locally sourced ingredients: biodiesel glycerin, fair trade olive oil, aloe, activated black charcoal, and a light cypress scent - reminiscent of Louisianan bayous. 10% of proceeds are donated to environmental cleanup and care for affected animals of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster. (Gulf Restoration Network & International Bird Rescue) $28,674 donated and counting!" $28.

A traditional Japanese 'Welcome' Soap from Tamanohada: "Give your houseguests something to talk about when they shower at your place. This extra-large soap on a rope was made in Japan on a kashigata – an intricately fashioned wooden mold. In the shape of an auspicious red snapper – believed to bring luck and good fortune – this eye-catching soap is a one-and-done housewarming present or a one-of-a-kind thank you gift. Scented with uplifting pomegranate – and made from naturally moisturizing palm oil – it's a long-lasting treat for the senses." 310g, $44 at Konmari, where you'll also find it in Black (brown sugar scent) and White (lily scent). Hat tip to Kevin!
