Aroma M Geisha Blanche and Blue ~ fragrance reviews

Posted by Jessica on 13 June 2013 7 Comments

Aroma M general banner

The perfume market has been flooded with so many “niche” and “independent” lines over the past five years that I sometimes like to look back at my collection and remember the fragrance houses that really helped me to develop my taste for non-mainstream scents in the first place. Some of them, like Diptyque, L’Artisan Parfumeur and Annick Goutal, were already well-established and (relatively) widely available, while others, like Lorenzo Villoresi, Demeter (back in the 90s!) and Aroma M were smaller and more specialized.

My favorite fragrance from Aroma M, ever since I first learned about the line in 2006, is the quirky-sweet Geisha Violet. I’m also fond of Amber Rouge, but I hadn’t tried any others in a while, so I recently ordered some samples (while purchasing a bottle of Camellia Face Oil!) and revisited some of the other Geisha “colors.” Blue and Blanche, in particular, seem well-suited for summer wear, and I’ve been trying them this week…

Aroma M Beauty Camellia Hair Oil & Camellia Face Oil ~ scented body product review

Aroma M Beauty Camellia Oil for Hair & Face

Aroma M, a New York-based, Japan-influenced “niche” perfume house, has just released the first two products in its new Aroma M Beauty collection. I’ve been a fan of Aroma M’s fragrances for a long time (my favorites are Geisha Violet and Geisha Marron), and I’ve recently become a convert to the idea of using oil treatments for hair and skin, so I was immediately looking forward to trying Aroma M’s Eastern-inspired Camellia Hair Oil and Camellia Face Oil.

According to the Aroma M website, “Camellia oil has been a Japanese beauty secret for centuries, and considered to be so beneficial and valuable that has become a symbol of wealth, virtue and happiness. It is made from cold pressed Japanese camellia (Tsubaki) buds, which is a member of the tea family.” In addition to its camellia seed oil, Aroma M’s Camellia Hair Oil contains virgin argan oil, golden jojoba oil, rosemary oil and tuberose oil, all organic. I don’t know much about the centuries-old methods of Japanese haircare, or the significance of haircare within the Geisha tradition, but I can still enjoy the simple luxury of this product when I work it into my own (decidedly non-Geisha-like) hair…

Aroma M Geisha Amber Rouge & Atelier Cologne Ambre Nue ~ fragrance reviews

Posted by Jessica on 27 January 2012 39 Comments

We’ve seen a few amber-focused fragrances surfacing amongst the new releases of late 2011 and early 2012, and that’s fine with me: I’m tired of oud being the “it” note, since I don’t care for it at all, and I usually enjoy some amber in my floral fragrances. Two of the recent arrivals are Aroma M Geisha Amber Rouge, a sister fragrance to the line’s Geisha Rouge, and Atelier Cologne Amber Nue.

Aroma M’s Geisha Amber Rouge (shown below right) perfume oil is packaged in a roll-on dispenser wrapped in the line’s signature Japanese paper, and the notes of its composition include amber, cinnamon, clove, star anise, resins, and incense. It’s much less peppery-clovey than the original Geisha Rouge…
