Could 2017 be the year of the deconstructed tuberose? With Twilly d’Hermès, Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakélite, and, now, Amouage Figment Woman, I wonder.1
Perfumers Dorothée Piot and Karine Vinchon-Spehner developed Figment Woman. Its notes include Sichuan pepper, saffron, gardenia, tuberose, jasmine sambac, orange blossom, lisylang (a fractionated ylang ylang), cassia, orris, papyrus, patchouli and incense. I discovered another perfumer in the past five years, Pierre Neglan [sic]. We created our best seller. People still go crazy about it. He was a true mentor. Just as autumn is gaining confidence, Amouage and Eight & Bob have released “summery” perfumes (perfect timing for the Southern Hemisphere, at least!)
Amouage Beach Hut Man1 seems to have divided perfumistos: judging from online commentary, lots of men love it and lots wanted to scrub it off immediately. (That’s usually a good sign…for me anyway.) …
Amouage Figment Man* is a weird perfume. During the week I wore it, people — who (I believe) didn’t realize they were commenting on my fragrance — said things like: “We must have had another garbage disposal problem!” (in the kitchen at work as I made an espresso); “Is that pee?” (person sniffing in the parking garage elevator…how rude!) Another stranger, behind me, on the ‘down’ escalator at the library, asked their companion: “What’s that sickening smell?” (The library smelled fine to me.)
For those who know my tastes, you can probably guess: I like Figment Man…
