Men's fragrance review: Conquest by Agatha Brown

Posted by Marlen on 10 January 2006 7 Comments

Recently, after a visit to Aruba, my friend Chuck began singing the praises of the Agatha fragrances by New York fashion and accessories designer, Agatha Brown. Her five scents for men and women have been described as “the most exclusive and prestigious fragrances in the world”.

The first of her men’s scents I’ll review, Conquest, has been imagined by its creator as a scent that 007 himself might wear. It contains notes of bergamot, lemon, yuzu zest, Rio Red grapefruit, fig leaf, stephanotis, jasmine, iced lavender, white muguet, Braeburn apple, Atlas cedar, vetiver, tonka bean, Ceylonese sandalwood, patchouli, olibanum, benzoin and musk…

Issey Miyake L’Eau Bleue D’Issey Pour Homme fragrance review

Posted by Marlen on 29 December 2005 11 Comments

Issey Miyake L'Eau Bleue d'Issey fragrance for men

Issey Miyake’s 2nd men’s fragrance, a follow-up to 1994’s L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme, smells more like something that might have been created for Comme des Garcons than Issey Miyake. A far cry from the citrus-packed L’Eau of the early 90’s, L’Eau Bleue is an unusual mélange of mandarin orange, lemongrass, rosemary, elemi, star anise, nasturtium, may rose absolute, ginger absolute, palmarosa, patchouli, sandalwood, and musk mallow. It was created by perfumer Jacques Cavallier…

Caron L’Anarchiste: men’s fragrance review

Posted by Marlen on 22 December 2005 14 Comments

Caron L'Anarchiste cologne for men

A towering copper Serge Mansau sculpture housing a unique and striking composition by Richard Fraysse, L’Anarchiste is Caron’s 4th fragrance for men. It has notes of orange blossom, mandarin, cedar leaves, cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver and musk.

Orange clouds at sunset, red and yellow autumn leaves swirling and brushing against the tall trees where pomanders of clove and orange sway in the breeze…

Perfume review: Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme

Posted by Marlen on 14 December 2005 31 Comments

Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme fragrance

Cedar, cedar and — can it be — more cedar? Christian Lacroix’s second foray into men’s fragrance delivers a successful woody aroma in a stunning indigo and silver bottle. With notes listed as Atlas, Virginia, Chinese, and Texas cedar, Tumulte Homme was created by nose Nathalie Gracia-Cetto.

There’s not much to tell about Tumulte, other than I love it…

Fragrance review: Dorissima Narziss & Goldmund

Posted by Marlen on 8 December 2005 24 Comments

Named after the masterpiece by German writer Herman Hesse, Narziss and Goldmund are a pair of fragrances for men and women, respectively, from the Dorissima line of Doris Brugger. Brugger has an impressive resume — she was mentored by Gianni Versace and later consulted with Lorenzo Villoresi about the creation of her products. The fragrances were inspired by her travels to India and Sri Lanka and combine natural essences of the Far East to create captivating fragrances for both men and women…
