What a beautiful peacock! Although, unlike carole, I immediately thought of Lord Shen in KFP2.
Narciso is indeed perfect for this CP. I would wear it if I still had it. However, I’m pleased with my own choice as well. You could say I took an obvious route, i.e. Kakigori White Crush by Obvious Parfums 😁 I’m still getting a lot of freshly washed clothes from it, but I’m weirdly okay with that. It keeps growing on me! “Pristine whiteness” and “crystalline purity” are used in the description, and I agree with it.
This one sounds nice.

Whenever I see white peacocks I think of Wilde’s Salome, and Herod’s desperate bargaining: “Salomé, you know my white peacocks, my beautiful white peacocks… I will give you fifty of my peacocks. They will follow you whithersoever you go, and in the midst of them you will be like the moon in the midst of a great white cloud.”
The closest I could come to anything white was nineties Old Spice in the milk-glass bottle — not white, exactly, but pale ivory like scrimshaw. It’s so good.

I don’t have many ‘white’ scents but I’m thinking that anything with ‘paperwhites’ (narcissus) might work, any white bottles, anything with ‘white’ or ‘blanc’ in the name, many things by Olivia Giacobetti, or anything with a prominent clean white musk.
In that spirit, I’m wearing The Body Shop White Musk EdT on one arm and Chanel Paris Deauville on the other. The Deauville came from a generous friend here, thank you! I might put Deauville back on after a run and shower because it reminds me of summer colognes with a touch of citrus and florals and Olivier Polge languidly waved a patchouli leaf over the bottle right before he added white musks. It would quench my thirst on a hot summer day in France. But I am not in France and it is not summer so I must conjure it.
I am behind on reading older posts, but Robin I did want to respond to your Ipcress File question. No, I broke my own cardinal rule and did not read the book before we saw the movie on NYE. I trusted it would be good because I had just finished The Berlin Game, another of Deighton’s Cold War novels. I will prolly still read the book at some point but now I’ve ordered others of his. As for the movie, it was very of its time (1965) with its theme of psychological manipulation. Michael Caine was good, he always lights up the screen.

One of the interesting quirks Deighton gives his character Bernard Samson is that he’s a smart lower class boy who worked his way up, not a hoity toity fancy ‘public school’ boy. And of course he’s smarter than them because he’s had to use his wits all his life instead of coasting on privilege. The Berlin Game is a good place to start as it’s the first in a trilogy. Samson grew up in post-War Berlin (but before the wall was built) and his father was a British spy there so his German is perfect and he has many German friends. There is also a prequel called Winter which I haven’t read yet.

Belated extra 🐇🐇🐇 for Jalapeno, and Happy Friday to you all! I chose Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia for today’s CP. I thought about Mojave Ghost, but decided against it. Rose Saltifolia makes me think of a sun-bleached, sandy beachscape with sun-bleached, near-white roses against a driftwood fence.
That sounds perfect!

I am in Courreges Blanc. White bottle and cloud of iris. Perfect for the CP and would be a great office scent for someone.

Exactly 4 months from today gradtowngirl will graduate with her Masters degree in Biology. Hard to believe, these 2 years have flown by, but that’s easy for me to say because I have not been the one studying lol.

Speaking of graduations, I had 2 old high school classmates reach out this morning- one via text and one via Insta because I am not on Facebook- and there are plans for a 40th anniversary hs reunion this summer. I love the peacock image! I’m wearing Strange Invisible Perfumes Musc Botanique, a creamy botanical musk scent. It is based on Ambrette seed absolute with geranium on top and light amber in the base. Nothing to do with the dreaded, for me, commercial “white musk” type, but it definitely makes me think of light ivory hue, maybe with hidden depth to it, like an iridescent white peacock feather.
I still have some of that one! You smell great.

I’m going with Mojave Ghost (thanks, SheriG). The sky is very much the color of Cloud Dancer at the moment, just slightly more gray. I had also thought about Dior Bois d’Argent which (I think) translates directly to Silver Wood, but I always see it as a silvery white. Maybe tomorrow.
However, I have a nice sample of Mojave Ghost and it’s calling to me. It’s sort of a clean shampoo type fragrance with lots of ambrette and some cedary musk IMO. (Although looking on Fragrantica, I see at least one unhappy reviewer who says it makes them ill and “smells like a very, very, very old person on their way out.” Well, maybe I am, but I’ll go out happy and fragranced!) I think the marketing story of Mojave Ghost is brilliant, and it makes me think of a favorite poster I had in high school and probably kept until I was married that showed a flower blooming in a crack in the sidewalk.

I’m contemplating another incense, or maybe following the lead on a white bottle. I think my only white bottle is Paestum Rose, which is completely not like Cloud Dancer 🙂 .

I had lunch yesterday with friends plus my sister, BIL and nephew. There were no specific expectations other good Chinese food. The start was not auspicious because the maitre d’ could not find a 1PM reservation under my friend’s first name but eventually found it under her last name. Our group was not complete at the time of the reservation and we had to wait 25 minutes before a large enough table became available. Then it was smooth sailing afterwards!
I went to Home Goods today to take another look at the Christmas candles. All of them were primarily 50% off. I am not into using shopping carts these days and ended up asking one of the workers to hold my candles (7). To my surprise, ALL of them were either $2.00 or $3.50 each! I may go back in a little bit to perhaps buy more!

Sotd The Harmonist Sacred Water in its white bottle. It’s an aromatic aquatic. “Sacred Water is a fluid aroma that stimulates and settles. Its notes of citrus fruit, fresh spice and minerality both invigorate and soothe the wearer, like the unfolding expanse of a tranquil sea.”
I think there’s an ironic note as well as it’s pouring here again. But I’ll be happy to be soothed by this scent.

January here is often cold and crisp with snow on the ground, influencing my choice to wear what I think of as ‘white’ scents this month, so the Cloud Dancer color and today’s cp gave me lots of choices.
SOTD is Caswell-Massey Pure Frost from 2012, featuring bergamot, Indian jasmine, Casablanca lily, and vanilla. I have the edt, which is surprisingly long-lasting, the body lotion and the bar soaps, all of which are wonderful. The back of the edt box notes ‘the first frost of the season is a magical thing. Pure Frost’s soft, sophisticated scent delivers surprising warmth and comfort with an alluring blend,’ and it does. If I were a cloud, I would surely dance while wearing this! 🌤️🩰 I ❤️ it.
Cold and crisp with blue skies and bright 🌞 and just a bit of snow on the ground today; it’s a picture-perfect January day for Pure Frost. Grocery shopping this morning and home for the rest of the day. We’ll tuck in with our favorite Friday night programs.

The last of my houseguests left after three weeks of holiday hosting. It’s rainy and unnaturally quiet, even the dogs and cats are sleeping it off. I went with Santal Blanc by Van Cleef & Arpels. It’s a white woods, creamy fig that is the lightest thing from my winter edit. Plus, a white bottle. Happy New Year to this lovely community. I’ve not been active here for quite awhile, but a member for a long time. It’s nice to know you’re all here!

I wanted to wear a gentle and calming scent today, so Iris Ukiyoe fits my mood. And I guess the “floating world” of ukiyo-e imagery is cloud-adjacent for today’s CP.
I quite like the idea of a white color of the year. ⚪️ Simplicity and visual purity are appealing, though I do not care for all white in clothing. It feels strange and cultish to me.
It is rainy and cloudy here today, not much to do, the house is quiet, I’m very much enjoying reading everyone’s perfume choices. You all smell wonderful. 🤍

My whole family watched the original Battlestar Galatica back in the day. Sadly, the series jumped the shark when they found Earth.
My Dad and I were also big fans of Max Headroom. Last time I watched an episode of it, I was amazed at how topical it still was.
Yes finding Earth was a conundrum for writers on the Reimagined series as well.

If I were home, I’d wear VC&A Bois d’Iris for the color. But I’m away and I happen to have FM L’Eau d’Hiver, with me, which some of you mentioned this week and which I’d easily describe as “a whisper of tranquility and peace in a noisy world.”
Like SheriG, I made my first blind buy of the year on Day Two: ELdO Eau de Protection! I’m a sucker for good rose scents, and this one gets regular praise on NST, so I’m hopeful I’ll love it.
I also bought FM Vetiver Extraordinaire in a 10 ml size on Day One😆 But that one had been on my wish list for a long time.
If you like spicy dark roses, Eau de Protection is one of the best. Hope it works for you!

That beautiful image of a white peacock took me on a very long mental memory trip that I’ll share (a bit of) here. A friend I had years ago invited me to spend six weeks with her one summer at her parents’ condo on Lake Lugano in Switzerland, right on the border with Italy. (They were not there.) We could literally walk down the hill and across the border into Italy, and did so most days to buy cheese and other treats at the market. It was a glorious location and the time spent there was wonderful, if you exclude the fact that my friend was very very neurotic and difficult. Anyway, one day we went somewhere and got a boat ride onto nearby Lake Maggiore and then visited the incredibly beautiful tiny island Isola Bella, which is dominated by the stunning Palazzo Borromeo. The whole thing is a stunning fairy tale palace on a blue lake with velvet green lawns over which stroll gorgeous all-white peacocks, some with their darling babies. It’s like nowhere else I’ve ever seen. I have one link that shows a peacock in a photo at the bottom (but look at the other pictures too: https://en.lagomaggiore.net/41/palazzo-borromeo-isola-bella.htm). Those lakes in Italy and Switzerland really do display how the other half lives. On another day we also visited Bellagio and did a boat ride on Lake Como. I felt lucky to visit.
This afternoon I had a doctor’s appointment, just to get my GP’s approval for the upcoming surgery, so didn’t want to wear too much scent. I did spray on Tam Dao. It’s not white in any strong sense but it’s got the right spiritual dimensions of calm and reflection.
