66 percent of them had hyposmia or anosmia after their COVID-19 infections

They ran smell tests on 2,956 volunteers with a history of COVID-19 infections and 569 who hadn't caught the virus. On average, the smell testing took place 671 days after participants had first been tested for COVID-19.

Of the COVID-19 group, 1,393 thought they had issues with smell, and tests confirmed about 80 percent of them did. Surprisingly, the other 1,563 people in that group didn't report any smell problems, but test results showed 66 percent of them had hyposmia or anosmia after their COVID-19 infections.

Happy Almost-Friday! It’s also World Food Day. Birthdays: Lucy Stanton, Oscar Wilde, Eugene O’Neill, Günter Grass. What fragrance are you wearing?

For Oscar Wilde, who was buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris — where today’s photo of the monument of Dominique Vivant Denon was taken — I’d be in Floris Malmaison if I could, but since I no longer have any I went with a modern carnation, Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale.

Happy for something new

“Brand loyalty is much harder today,” said fragrance consultant Robert Sorce, a former president of Byredo. “That’s why brands launch so many new fragrances. They’re trying to keep their base of people happy for something new, so they don’t go to another brand.”

This calls for not only higher marketing spend, especially on influencers, but adjustments to allow for a faster launch pipeline. Many luxury fashion labels have moved toward collections of fragrances with uniform bottles to avoid slowdowns in production.
