Today I am feeling introspective, so I am wearing L’Orpheline with a dab of Dame New Musk.
With my annual perfume money, I bought a bottle of L’Orpheline and I have cash left, in case I fall in love with A Little Secret and get a travel spray. I’m sure something will get bought lol.
I ordered it from jomashop, my first purchase. That was 7 days ago and I’ve heard nothing, is that usual? Probably. A shipping notice would be nice.

I have never had an issue with Jomashop and have ordered from them numerous times. My guess is that they may be just busy with holiday orders. I am sure you will hear from them soon on a shipping time.
I have a sample size of the oil, I think it’s 5ml. They used to have such generous samples, I haven’t shopped there in years. It’s a straight, smooth musk oil with a bit of floralcy, nice and light. It’s subtle on its own and layers well.

I bought this deep-fryer thing and got the initial confirmation, then nothing for a whole month. I sent an email to inquire and got a response right away with shipping issues, tariffs, etc. but also got a follow-up request to one of the workers. A whole week went by and nothing, so I disputed the charge with Amex. Lo and behold, I received the package two days after I disputed, so I reversed the dispute (or cancelled was the word they used). Two days later, the original merchant asked why I disputed the charge and I basically told them to discuss with Amex because I did not get the money back.
I’m still thinking about Edith Piaf. If you haven’t seen the film with Marion Cotillard, it’s an absolute must-watch.

I saw Robin mention making scented lotion and I wonder if I can get tips on how to mix it. I add my essential oils to the bottle and just shake it very vigorously but my lotion is quite thick and this method is only sort of working. I have a 9″ stainless steel lab spatula that is perfect for the task…you can find one for about $7-$8. I don’t think it is the absolute highest quality stainless, but I just wash and dry it as soon as I’m done and it hasn’t rusted or anything.
It is also handy for removing those last bits of cream from a tube (after you cut off the other end), etc etc.

Calypso, I was incorrect. The EdT is discontinued and the EdP is still available at Dyptique only.
Good thing I have half bottles of both.
Volutes is so pretty. Not sure I didn’t buy it when it came out. I remember sniffing it at a perfume counter somewhere. I think it was the EdT. My memory is jogged a bit that it didn’t last long enough on my skin, or that I wished it was 2x the potency. But probably it was because I’d already sprayed on too many other things.

I liked the book. It is a bit meandering and it took me a long time to finish but in the end I was glad I did.
The only other book I have finished from the Booker longlist so far is Endling by Maria Reva, that was wonderful too.

Went to the mall today and got there around 11:10am. 😱 there was almost no parking! I managed to get one though so there’s that. I needed to go to Nordie’s to do some business with my gift card as well as to figure out how to spend time limited cards. I was able to do that including having lunch, bought a shiitake mushroom oil, Dylan’s candy and a bottle of seltzer water. The only other damage I did was a multi-item purchase from Lush: 30mL bottle of perfume (will wear on Friday) and 2 candles (I really don’t need them but what the hay); also got a freebie scarf-thingie with cats on it. Overall, I am a happy camper!
How is the longevity on the JM?

Hi all, I’ve been a bit out of touch for awhile partly due to travel plus some stuff related to my upcoming shoulder surgery, but primarily because I’ve had such bad allergies that I just gave up wanting or trying to smell anything. Ugh! I’m finally better. Not the best time of the year here as our climate zig-zags between cold and hot, and my HVAC keeps switching back and forth and, probably, carrying dust and mold with it each time….
Enough on that. I can’t think of anything I tried or bought from 2025. The new things I have all seem to be from 2024 including the two I’ve worn most, both from Arquiste: Venice Rococo and Almond Suede. Venice is by far my favorite and most worn. I did buy myself a new perfume for Christmas–but also from 2024: Prada Paradoxe Virtual Flower. I’ll wrap it and put it in my own stocking, ha ha! One must be creative when there’s no family any more. I do have some cute wrapped presents here sent by friends.
I finally tried Virtual Flower. It’s very nice! I liked it much more than the original.

SOTD is Dame’s first fragrance, Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, a soft dry vanilla that somehow manages to convey a caramelly warmth without being gourmand. I ❤️ this one in winter.
Just returned from a fantastic concert 🎶 at another nearby historic theater featuring the iconic Chicago area band, Ides of March. Formed in high school in a Chicago suburb and now celebrating their 60th year together! – with 4 original members + 1 who joined in 1990 + newer members and a great horn section – the Christmas concert featured a great combination of some traditional Christmas songs + their own Christmas compositions + their r&r hits and the best visuals I’ve seen at a concert taking you back very cleverly through the years. And we had fifth row center seats. My thought at the end of the show was, I’d like to see a band half their age perform half as good as they did tonight! Here’s a video of one of their hits, a live performance from 10 years ago at Chicago’s House of Blues. Ten years later, they look and sound just as good.

On another note, if you read this, Annie Perfumes, please get in touch. I have something for you. My scent of the morning is still yesterday’s scent, Lush V, which was re-launched as Kerbside Violet. I *had* a big bottle of this and noticed a crack in it yesterday (no idea how that happened) and had to decant the entire thing as it was beginning to leak. Not sure how that happened but of course I got it all over my hands. Good thing I like violets.

I used to work near a TJ Maxx and Marshall’s and used to buy a lot of fragrances there for cheap and I’m sure this is where I picked it up years ago. I’m aghast at what I see some of these older scents going for now on line!

Busy weekend, finishing up office tasks which seem to take me at least 3-6 hours every weekend, if I want to do a decent job on it all. I will be working for the next week, until 12/29, but at least the office closes for Christmas so I just have hospitals to cover.
I am exploring tobacco scents. TF Tobacco Vanille did not charm me. I am wearing a sample of Tobacco Pod from For the Scent of It. The first spray smelled like cinnamon to me but it dried down a bit better. So far, I think I like Herod best, even though it is a masculine-targeted release. I have never smelled the tobacco plant or leaf, though I have been told one needs to dry the leaves to the full effect. I bought some tobacco seeds and I am going to try growing a plant.
It was a beautiful 70 degree day, sunny and dry. I want to pull out all my winter scents but seems it will be warm in the next week. For my walk, I put on the shirt I had on yesterday and it smelled so good, had to remember that it was Obvious Un Vanille I had worn, the vanilla had faded out but I was left with a soft musk.
I love the tobacco in Field Notes from Paris (Ineke) but it’s also a lot of orange blossom, so maybe not as focused as you’re looking for.

You could try La Via del Profumo Tabac — it’s a nice one, and they do tiny (15 ml or so) bottles.

Miller Harris has a couple of tobacco scents. La Fumee Ottoman is one. There is something in the MH base that doesn’t play well with my skin, and alas I have a big bottle of it, but it might work marvelously on you if you like the line!

Today I’m testing Le Dix on one wrist and Generia on the other ( y’all should be proud of me for not wearing all ten at once).
I had a huge bottle of Le Dix I bought in Manhattan in the 80s for under $10 at a discount store I used to visit a lot. They always carried older merchandise that they sold whenever a fragrance was reformulated / repackaged. The prices I used to pay would astonish you! I remember Le Dix smelling like Parma violet candy. This version I am getting a lot of iris.
The other one I’m sampling is supposed to be a salty marine but for some reason my wonky nose gets pine. I like it a lot.
Thus far from my sampling 4/4 are full bottle worthy.

I had a mini LeDix perfume that was part of a collection of minis of different perfumes I’d never heard of that my SIL gave me as a gift during the 80’s. Put it on a closet shelf and forgot about it for a long, long time. When I finally tried it, I learned how much I love. violets as a scent note! The 3 amigos are adorable. 🥰

I am wearing one of my favorite 2025 releases – Les Liquides Imaginaires Cedrat Tonic. They released a bunch of new scents this year; I tried four, and this one stands out, in my opinion. It’s a bitter, citrusy aromatic: the notes include gin, mint, grapefruit, rosemary, and more.

Temps warmed up to the mid-40’s today, but it’s cloudy, dark and drizzly and feels much colder than it is. But it appears the bitter cold and snow is gone for the rest of the week so I’m at least partly grateful despite the dismalness of the day.
