Wednesday scent of the day 12/3

Posted by Robin on 3 December 2025 104 Comments

It's Hump Day and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Plus, Joseph Conrad’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: more points in Terre d'Hermès.

Reminder: 12/5 is World Soil Day. Wear something earthy, or something that reminds you of plants growing, or do something else creative with the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Last drops of Jul et Mad Nin-Shar. It has patchouli, and it’s named after a goddess of plants and vegetation – so here you go, earthy and growing.

We’re having a lot of power issues here today. Some kind of technical problem (likely related to recent shelling) – eight hours without power, then it was back for two hours, then gone for a few minutes and back on. It’s on at the moment, but the voltage is low. My mom is using this window (with the fridge and heater turned off as a precaution) to bake a pizza. It only needs 20 minutes in the oven. Keeping our fingers crossed!

Still in Lyric at the moment but about to take a shower. Since I have a dentist appointment to do a build up for a crown, I will be commando until afterwards. My choices are either no 5 edp or Number One Intense.

I opened my perfume cabinet to look for something earthy and soil-y just now and my eye was drawn to the cobalt blue Hiris bottle, which got me thinking about rooty iris scents, but then I realized that there’s nothing very earthy rooty about Hiris. Instead of roots and soil it showcases the green aspects of iris with a little carrot seed thrown in. Then my eye fell upon SMN Vaniglia, which I’d been idly thinking that I should wear for the past week now. It’s been like a mellow craving buzzing in the background of my brain. Vaniglia does not really suit the CP, except perhaps because it stresses the dark vanilla pod/bark aspect of the vanilla bean, (nothing cake-y or overly sweet), but that’s what the nose and heart wanted so that’s what I’m wearing. Have a lovely day everyone.

The mention of rooty iris is making me think. I need to put something on that’s unobtrusive, for a command performance in the office and then a volunteer stint. Maybe Iris Silver Mist or Ossuary… I have my CP-compliant music figured out for Friday, at least. 🙂

In L’Artisan Legendes du Cedre from a very cute mini bottle.

Very cold and windy here today, but at least is a bright, sunny day.
I am glad and relieved that I am done with my Christmas shopping. I just have to mail some holiday cards this weekend and I will relax from the craziness of the holidays, until Christmas and New Year gatherings with my immediate family members.
Having my second cup of coffee with a dash of saffron and a couple of super tasty lebkuchens.
    Happy Wednesday! ☕️

I’m wearing Indigo Smoke, which seems at least woodsy-smokey-earthy, even if it’s not exactly a soil scent. We’re having dreary weather with cold (for us) and a lot of rain. We need the rain but the darkness is depressing. Maybe I should start putting up Christmas lights soon to make things more cheerful. I’ve been a bit lazy about it all so far.

I went with Shiseido Inoui today. Soooo beautiful. This is a decant from a lovely NST follower who saw a post several years ago where I was lamenting my Inoui from long ago (late 70s, early 80s). She sent me a decant from her bottle. I still love it and wear it sparingly.

Definite CP points for this one – opens green with galbanum and other “green notes”, then some fruit, and ends with oak moss, cedar and myrrh (and dare I say it, a bit of civet). The green is not cold, and the notes are not overpowering or bitter (as I find some vintage fragrances to be), rather it’s complex and interesting and well balanced.

Ok first of all you smell marvellous-i remember Ysatis so well, and trying to figure out how to pronounce it!

And I feel for you re holiday angst. I use books, too-currently reading The Lock Up by John Manville-love his work. Have you ever tried breathing exercises-so to calm the nervous system breathe out for one more breath than you breath in-so in for a count of three, out for a count of four? I find that helps.

    Hello lovingly scented NST!

    Missed everyone.

Sotd Courreges L’eau de Liesse because I’m going to a holiday party with my dear Duolingo partner who coined the name LesLiesse for me. Liesse is French for jubilation and intense joy, so fitting 🎉 as I explain below.

The following is TL;DR worthy so feel free to move along. Didn’t make it to Urgent Care over the weekend for my swollen and inflamed insect bite on my foot & ankle because I was worried, exacerbated by not sleeping, about being exposed to flu, RSV and COVID while waiting triage as I would be a low priority and wait for hours. I’m immune-compromised so it wasn’t an idle worry for me.

Tried pharmacist at drug store for another treatment, but they said I need a prescription and nothing further OTC would help. Just “rest, elevate, ice and check for a fever in case the infection overwhelmed my immune system.” Gee! Thanks, Pharmacist!

Finally saw my dermatologist Monday morning who diagnosed infection and inflammation, then prescribed medication that began working within hours as swelling and redness subsided. However while treating my lower leg, he noticed a worrisome spot in my shaving blind spot behind my calf. He insisted on doing a skin cancer biopsy immediately. 🙏🙏🙏 Finally got those results last night and I’m okay. 🎉🎉🎉 First good night sleep in 6 days.

Missed everyone here, but went commando this whole time and tried to stay positive and relaxed, which was a challenge. Thanksgiving dinner which I picked up preprepared on that morning was delicious and leftovers meant Mom’s caregiver could feed her without my spending time on my feet cooking. So I’m okay and got the go-ahead to not miss tonight’s holiday gathering (but no alcohol til I’m done with meds).

    Happy Hump Day to all!

Zoiks-that’s quite a bit to live through! Glad you got some meds, and for women any term will look for behind the knee moles-with men it tends to be the tips of the ears. So glad you got a clean bill of health. Good for you for persisting to find some answers.

I’ve decided that the bite and subsequent infection was a godsend because the dermatologist got a look at that growth. My annual skin cancer checkup is in February. Something might have happened between now and then, so I’m relieved it’s gone!

SOTD is Chopard Casmir because someone mentioned it last week and I haven’t worn it in a long time. I remember when this was very popular on the fragrance boards and I bought a bottle at one of the discount stores because I love vanilla scents and it sounded like a good one for winter. But there’s something about the peach, mango and coconut notes just not blending well with the base notes that I don’t care for. But I don’t dislike it as much as I remember and I’m glad I gave it another try.

Cold with some light snow today, but temps will plummet tonight to the single digits with wind chills tomorrow morning below zero. 🥶 We’re going to bundle up tonight and head out to our local community college for a guitar ensemble concert. They have a great music department and an intimate setting for their events + tickets are only $6, a great way to warm one’s heart and soul with music 🎸🎶🎼🎵

    Wishing all a pleasant evening!

Snow started late last night here. It was still snowing ever so slightly when the sun went down. Pretty sure I got around 3 inches. It’s not all that much compared to what other places along the Front Range received, but it is finally a decent amount. ❄️⛄

Had a Sephora package show up with a couple of items missing yesterday. The packaging was there but the contents were not. I spoke with a wonderful CSR this afternoon who sorted things out for me.

SOTD = commando, but wearing Bum Bum Cream on my shins. It’s time!

I hope you get your items!
3 inches is a lot for your area at once isn’t it?

3 inches a lot? Not even.

My brother once had 18 inches dumped on his deck in one day several years ago. And he’s just in the next town over.

And thanks! I’ve never had items go missing before. It’s a bummer.

No. All the boxes were accounted for, but 2 of them were empty. And one of those boxes was torn on the bottom.

I might put on some bum bum cream to this week. I like it better in the winter too.

We tried, but corporate doesn’t make it easy by cutting back on hours.

      Hi twin!

Well, she sounds worse than your new boss. I hope she is gone now. I take it you hadn’t met her before?

She is pretty high up. I don’t think she had ever visited before.
