It's Tuesday, National Fritters Day and the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. Happy Birthday to Britney Spears! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points in Hermès Myrrhe Églantine. Tea at the moment is Chardwar Estate Assam from Upton.
Reminder: 12/5 is World Soil Day. Wear something earthy, or something that reminds you of plants growing, or do something else creative with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Faefire Foiled Mushroom Print Teapot is $38 at Disturbia.
It’s so interesting that today is the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, especially as I’m deep in my NYPL commentary and studying the Haitian Revolution — doing my best to pronounce all these French names, lol. One of the things I love about my life at the library is how it constantly pushes me to learn new things.
Tea of the day is Pleine Lune by Mariage Frères.
Outside, freezing rain is falling, and I’m wrapped up in my cozy wool shawl from Scotland.
I’m wearing Barenia Intense by Hermès and loving the softness of this perfume, even though it’s suppose to be the more intense version!
I was thinking of you the other day as I finished reading The Women. I think I am the last person alive that hadn’t read it. Just curious if you read this and what your thoughts were as people gave it high ratings.
*raises hand* I still need to read that one. It’s on the list!
I don’t know why I waited so long. It was very good.
You smell wonderful-Barenia Intense really delighted me.
On day 3 of my vacation. Sunday was the original Coco, yesterday was Dia. Today will be a Lyric. Vacations are meant for wearing perfumes that I don’t get to wear as often as I like. Today is a day that I have to make a return to Walmart, go to the bank and if I am lucky, I can stop at either Malley’s or Bath and Body Works.
You are certainly wearing great smelling perfumes on your vacation!
Smelling wonderful Dawn!
You always have a Good Day with Dia…
Yay for wonderfully scented vacations! Do report if you find any delights at B&BW. Their body products work for me and we have a store at our town’s valiantly struggling mall. 😅
On vacation and you are smelling fabulous!
Well, patchouli was the first thing that came to my mind when I read “earthy”, so I am claiming points in Coromandel.
Glannys, you smell incredible 🙂
Oh good. Now I have an idea for the cp. Thanks Glannys!
Smelling fabulous!
Patch came to my mind right away, too.
Cold outside and I have to head out into it a bit later, but right now I’m back from the gym and cozy in Panthère de Cartier extrait from 1986. Unrelated to the CP except that it’s one of those ’80s things with about a hundred elements that come from the soil, flowers and leaves and woods and resins and such. It’s great stuff.
It is cold here too + icy rain. I am going nowhere.
C’mon, surely Panthère de Cartier can be made to fit the theme! Anybody?
Patchouli, cedar, musk, that’s earthy for sure.
Icy rain?? ICK!!
I literally did not leave the house all day. I assume it was ick but it was pretty nice inside 😉
Hello.
Sotd is Bvlgari Baciami, a fluffy, non-boozey vanilla cloud scent. Quite the opposite of earthy!
Coffee is King of Africa from Bacha Coffee. It has notes of cacao, coconut and honeyed banana, even Tarzan would want a cup. If you are into fun and fancy flavoured coffees, do look them up!
LOL at “even Tarzan would want a cup”!!
That Tarzan comment was funny!
I’m in Le Lion-love this scent in colder air. I just about split the atom-I wear this scent sparingly because it’s huge. I love it. It still feels like a very special scent to me (have no idea what the criteria is for very special scent in my head, but this and Caron’s Poivre and En Avion are on it).
I think we all know a special scent when we smell it, even if we can’t verbalize the criteria 🙂
I really love the teapot today, and it’s cheap as chips compared to others on Tuesdays. I’m wearing Spice Must Flow from ELDO.
I like it to, and yes, a bargain!
My first impulse was to join Robin in Myrrhe Églantine, but then I saw ltsg’s comment about Barenia Intense and remembered that I had yet to give that a proper try. So I did, and by the notes it should fit this CP perfectly, but … on me it’s just not earthy, or leathery, or woody, or warm at all. Instead it’s a slightly fruity mishmash, with maybe a hint of the ginger lily? I don’t think it’s my covid nose because yesterday’s 24 Faubourg smelled exactly as it always does. So I’ll be scrubbing and switching in a bit.
Slightly fruity mishmash was my take on Twilly too. I am just not a big Nagel fan (although of course she did the ME too).
Not to mention Theorema. I’m with you — aside from a few of the Hermessences (ME and Agar Ébène especially), I don’t find that much of her work has appealed to me.
Yes Theorema!! But I see little relationship between her early and later styles (and for that matter, same with Jean Claude Ellena).
Agar Ebene was good…I hope she will do more Hermessences.
Although did not even try the last one, Oud Alezan, and I am ignoring the Essence thingies.
I have several ideas for the CP, but needed Tea for Two today instead on this cool, misty morning.
Gotta do what you gotta do 🙂
Hiya, scent twin. We smell terrific!
Can’t argue with the perfume.
Today I am wearing Goutal Nuit Etoilee and currently drinking a cup of Prince of Wales tea.
I will try to finish putting up Christmas tree later on today. I can’t believe we are already in December 🙂
I have my tree up, but haven’t decorated yet. I think tonight will be the night.
It feels like September was only a couple of weeks ago.
Good morning NST! No scent yet as I’m prepping for a run and sometimes (not always) I like to go scentless and just smell the trail dust and whatever’s blooming, which is a lot in early December because the rain and warm weather have tricked all the plants into thinking it’s spring.
But I may join Glannys in Coromandel. Not sure yet. I am pondering the ‘earthy soil’ theme and thinking that Terre d’Hermes, which even has terre in its name (which is either the Earth or earth/soil in French, much as in English) would work, or Terre de Sarment by Frapin (though I don’t understand the name – grapevine soil? Soil in which grapevines can flourish?) Any patchouli scent (thx Glannys), anything with a loamy mushroomy note like Niki de St. Phalle, and maybe anything with oakmoss, which I perceive as earthy and green/brown. With its vast library, Demeter has scents for every CP and Earthworm and a few others would fit. Zoologist with its animal-centered frags have got to have many contenders, and any forest-tilted scents that include the forest floor. But now I’m thinking about Frapin and I might have to eschew the CP today and just go for my beloved 1270 in that awesome cognac-y bottle. I call 1270 “Serge Lutens light” because of all the boozy stewed fruits, which I love. Besides, I don’t have any Terre de Sarment.
You need some Terre de Sarment. I had a decant, but it’s gone now.
I think you could make an argument for a tangential CP point for 1270. It doesn’t smell of soil, but it sure smells of all the wonderful things you can grow in that soil! (I like that – Serge Lutens light! It could probably be its own category.)
Welp I’m running with that one, springpansy, so Frapin 1270 it is. No regrets.
I thought the same thing about Zoologist, and looked through my collection from them (I keep them together in one box), and got a few ideas. First to my mind was Bat–I have the original one which is truly essence of cave–pretty earthy, right? But I just wasn’t in the mood for that today.
I love your scent Robin and have contemplated buying it several times.
SOTD is FM Iris Poudre. According to Fragantica, this scent does have some earthiness to it.
As well as being really really pretty
Yes, it is pretty. It is the one perfume I receive compliments on.
Iris Poudre is so elegant!
Goodness me, nadvertent compliance! Wearing Wowzilla, which has some patchouli
Points do not require intention 🙂
I had what I thought was a great idea for the CP and began looking through my various boxes and drawers and, naturally, couldn’t find it. So I had various other possibilities among things I found that I had forgotten, and went with Etro Shaal Nur. It’s a pretty good contender with a wide array of notes including “Vetiver, Incense, Opoponax, Patchouli, Nutmeg, Cedar and Musk” (from Fragrantica). It also has several herbs, floral notes, and bergamot–quite a mixed bag! It’s slightly sour-smelling but pretty.
Some vetivers go slightly sour on me too Calypso, but I love Shaal Nur and the incense and opoponax and spices keep it on an even keel for me.
I’m wearing Bois des Iles, I do have a few perfumes with more woody or earthy notes, but I’m just not in the mood for them.
You smell fabulous!😊
SOTD is Architects Club. I have a doctors appointment later and this chubby bottle appealed when I opened the cabinet.
Hope your appointment was uneventful.
I am wearing L’Eau D’Issey EDP Intense, a sample that got thrown in with my last perfume order. It’s awfully sweet with vanilla and ylang-ylang notes and not earthy at all. I will do better at the CP tomorrow.
Hey, you have until Friday! Or forever, whichever you prefer 🙂
In Caron Nuit de Noël for the oak mossy earthy goodness!
Nice call!
SOTD = L’AP Safran Troublant
I am thisclose to thunking the bottle although it will probably take me through sometime next year. Love!
At the proverbial end of the day, we are likely to have early lunch at the Japanese / Chinese buffet. There is something for everyone AND you can also order a separate meal if that is your choice. For Boxing Day (ha! I never ever really call it that but I have a snooty cousin [not the one visiting]), I was originally going to bring pound cake but the cousin said why not sugar cookies. So I am bringing both, just in case.
Thanks to nozknoz and Kanuka, I have new things to try to see if I can free up room in my iPad!
As a kid, the name Boxing Day never made sense to me. People running around hitting each other? Where’s the Xmas spirit in that?
Agreed!
Do you have a BUB of Safran Troublant? I hope so!
😇 I do!
I call it Boxing Day…when I was growing up with divorced parents, we always spent Boxing Day with my Dad if he was in town. I did not know it was British or snooty 😉
Ha! I wonder if it is a regional thing?
No idea but I doubt it.
I do know now it is British and I know how the term evolved, should have clarified that I just didn’t know when I was younger.
Maybe they just wanted a name for the holiday we spent with my Dad so it still sounded festive??
I thought I might do a week of patchouli scents since I wore Coromandel yesterday, but I ended up reaching for Tea for Two when I went searching for my Coromandel backup decant.
Robin, I love today’s teapot. Dark and earthly yet also celestial to me, I think it’s the colors.
You smell wonderful, too! ;D
The colors are great. Plus we are doing a week of mushroom images 🙂
Today was my day off but I was asked to come in because of a visit tomorrow. I did, because I need the hours. We are already getting Valentine’s merchandise in. Lol.
My sotd is Libre Platine.
Valentine’s Day stuff?? NOW?!? 😭😭😭
Holy cow lillyjo, it is too soon for Valentine’s Day.
Waiting for snow (real snow, not just a dusting) to show up tonight and into tomorrow. Not going to be Chicago or Michigan amounts, though.
I took advantage of the calm before the storm to fix some Xmas lights that I had put up over the weekend. It never fails: you test each string of lights before putting them up, and they are fine. But once you have put up the lights, something, somewhere has burned out. Today’s fix was easy. Get another string of lights out and replace the faulty one. Not going to look for whichever bulb has burned out.
Have an idea for Friday. But until then I will keep wearing samples.
SOTD = still in Hypnotic Poison EdT.
PS. Adorable teapot Robin!
I hate light strings. Meant to put them on the tree today but didn’t happen.
I’ll get to something earthy by Friday, but this week has turned into a Parfum D’Empire celebration. It’s a house that I think deserves more attention – fabulous perfumes at (comparatively) reasonable prices.
Over the weekend I wore Musc Tonkin, Tabac Tabou, Ambre Russe, and Eau Suave. All are marvelous and thrilling in their own way. Yesterday began with the utterly delightful but somewhat fleeting Azemour Les Orangers, and ended with 3 Fleurs – a wonderfully tenacious and beautiful bouquet. Today, I’m in what’s become my daughter’s signature scent, Un Bel Amour D’Été. It’s intoxicating stuff, and I can see why she loves it.
I pre-ordered their latest, Madagascar Le Baume Vanille, but custom/tariff issues have prevented my bottle from leaving France, and the folks at Parfum D’Empire aren’t sure they’ll be able to get it to me. Fingers crossed.
Happy December, everyone!
I’ll cross my fingers for your PdE order! What a freaking pain.
Hope you have Corsica Furiosa too! That and Azemour are my favorites. Hope your Vanille will make it…
When I awoke early this morning, it was 17 degrees; when I went out mid-afternoon, it had gone all the way up to 18! But a very pleasant day anyway, we got our RSV shots, picked up some Christmas gifts at our local tea shop, and went to a wonderful ‘Sip and Shop’ event at a senior living facility in town. No admission charge, wine and delicious ‘snacks’ courtesy of their young chef (we needed no dinner afterwards), a great band, and more than 20 creative vendors with some great stocking stuffers. If I had to live somewhere like that, that’s the place I’d want to be – between the library directly across the street and the fantastic young chef, what could be better!
SOTD is LMDLV Vanille Noire du Mexique. The patchouli and opoponax in the base notes have a chocolatey feel to them and, layered over BBW’s Hot Cocoa and Cream, give me the all the comfort of a cup of hot chocolate topped with a marshmallow on a cold winter’s day. ☕️
Happy Giving Tuesday!🙏
Laila, you do more fun things than anybody, I salute you!
I was just thinking that – and I salute you too!
Oh, thank you Robin and allo. We are both fortunate to be retired and live in a community where there’s something going on all the time either here or nearby. But except for very rare occasions – like going to Paul McCartney’s concert – we’re very frugal people and most of what we do or where we go is pretty low budget. We try to not only entertain ourselves but also to expand our worlds whenever we can.
Well you seem to be doing a fantastic job!
Love the teapot! Forgot to wear any scent today, but will put on Nemat Vanilla Musk fragrance oil to go to bed.
