PSA: the splitmeet is open until late Sunday night! (Or Monday morning, or whenever I remember to close it.)
Meantime, our standard open thread poll. Same as always, talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the fragrance you didn't buy but wish you had, the fragrance you did buy wish you hadn't, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I’m in Oriza L. Legrand Horizon this morning, and have nearly drained my sample. I thought I had two vials of this but apparently don’t — maybe I tinked the other one months back. Anyway, owing to the enabling of therabbitsflower and Jalapeno last Wednesday, I discovered that Horizon is indeed available in 50 ml bottles, but they are actually more expensive than the larger ones available at LS. Then came an indirect assist from Daniel on Thursday, who sent me off to Kafkaesque’s blog on a different subject but where I ran across her accolades for Horizon (along with some unrelated historical info about Coco Chanel that I wish I could un-read), and … yep, bottle ordered. Enabler pins awarded all around.
I had to look up the Coco Chanel article. A lot I didn’t know there.
Nice! Hope your precious will arrive soon 🙂
Monday. Allegedly. 🙂
I like a lot of their scents but haven’t yet tried this one. Very lovely retro packaging in addition to be well-made and thought out.
I do like the Deco-ish labels, and am hoping mine has the tassel. I’m kind of a sucker for elegant packaging. 🙂
It does have the tassel! And you’re right about the packaging — gorgeous box. Makes me want to have it on display and use it for something, but I can’t think what.
Cheerfully accepting my enabler swag! So did you get the big 100mL bottle after all?
I did! It was literally less $$ than the smaller bottle (not merely per-ml less expensive), probably because of a combination of the euro-to-dollar exchange and the tariffs that went into effect after LuckyScent added my particular bottle to inventory. That might change — I noticed that right after I placed my order, LS had Horizon listed as back ordered. Will be interesting to see its pricing going forward.
I got SJP Stash in a swap earlier this year and I sure wish I had known about it years ago. I never saw it for sale anywhere I was, but the price was ridiculous for how good it is ($85 USD for 100 mL at launch) and if you like cedar, well, it’s the cedariest thing ever. I’m wearing it on this grey cool fall day and it is perfect.
You smell great, I’m a big fan of Stash.
I was gifted a roll-on of Stash a while ago and it’s really great, unlike anything else in my collection.
I bought this one when it first appeared and wore it a lot. Then put it aside.
Went in the vault and found a whole body of the body oil.
We are twins who are smelling great today!!
Stash body oil is great. I thunked one bottle and am closing in on the second one.
Me, too! Looks like I’m a triplet today. Got a small bottle years ago along with shower gel and body lotion that was very inexpensive. It’s wonderfully comforting on a dark and chilly day.
It’s raining, the temperature is dropping, this rain is supposed to turn to snow eventually. It had to happen sometime!
It’s a good day for Narciso White Cube.
We’ve been invited to dinner with good friends later and I was asked to bring apple crisp. So I baked it this morning and left out a couple of ingredients, I’m out of practice! So I baked a pecan pie too, in case the crisp is subpar, and while the oven was on, made a big pan of keto lasagna. I used to cook and bake like this all the time when my daughter was little, now I’m bushed!
Wow nice job – that is lots of cooking and baking. As much as I enjoy it, I’m usually bushed after doing all that, too! I’m making a vegetarian lasagna for dinner with son and family tonight along with an endive apple salad and would love to have the energy to make apple crumble but that will likely not happen today.
But it didn’t have to happen in early November, LOL…
at least you have lots of baked goods ready and waiting. Hope the apple crisp comes out better than you’re thinking it will.
Enjoy your dinner!
Are you in the 6-12 inches this weekend? I’m supposedly getting less than 2.
Sharing the same weather forecast with you! Your food (and springpansy’s) sounds delicious. 😋
Your food sounds delicious!
We had a few inches of snow yesterday and it is only in the 20’s today. Good day to stay inside and watch football.
Hi, all. I’m wearing a sample of Essential Parfums Nice Bergamote. I think it’s a rather unfortunate name, although it *is* indeed nice, but somehow the connotations of nice are sort of like a B grade: better than acceptable but not excellent. And maybe that’s true of this perfume, but it’s really lovely to wear, a perfect easy-going Saturday “white t-shirt” type of fragrance. Perfumer is Antoine Maisondieu. Definitely fits my style and if you prefer smaller sized bottles, they offer it in a 10 ml travel spray. Goes on the list!
I’ve wondered whether that’s Nice as in the city in France. Hard to tell, but maybe so given the spelling of bergamot(e)?
I didn’t even think of that! I wonder…
Yesterday I was in short sleeves for a walk in the forest preserve–60s, sunny, gorgeous colors. Now it’s drizzly and 42. Not sure if the snow will really materialize, but there will be “gale winds” tomorrow.
In Shalimar L’Essence.
Robin, BBCA is running a Bond-a-thon all day & evening tomorrow.
Will tune in periodically for cheesy dialog snippets!
You smell gorgeous Galbanumgal ! And thanks for BBCA tip on the Bond-a-thon (love that name)!
You’re smelling especially great today.
Thanks for telling me, but shoot, don’t have cable anymore!
I was scent twins with you yesterday! We smelled wonderful!
Happy Saturday and thanks for all the vetiver knowledge yesterday! I’m going to take Robin’s advice and check out some essential oils.
Sotd in search of a plink (since I missed out on Plink Monday this week) Oribe Valley of Flowers. It’s still warm enough to wear.
Happy Saturday LesLiesse!
PdN Pavlova for me today. Sometimes you just need to smell vaguely like pineapple. We have a break in the November monsoons for a few days, so I’m trying to get my small back yard / garden cleaned up and winterized. Otherwise, off for flu & COVID shots for the whole family in an hour.
Indeed sometimes you do! Good luck, hope everyone weathers their shots just fine.
SOTD = Jo Malone Amber Labdanum
Love! I wore this forthefirsttime today. I should wear it more often!
In other news…I subscribe to Bottom Line Personal and it frequently has good articles. I am behind in my reading so please just bear with me. This article is about aging and provided reasons why we sometimes (frequently?) fear aging. Here’s a quick summary of the themes. Also, if all else fails, consider talking to a therapist.
1) Practice acceptance and adaptation
2) Express gratitude
3) Live in the present
4) Have a purpose
5) Keep moving
6) Stay curious
7) Have close relationships
8) Connect with younger people
9) Have community connections
Great ideas for any age! I might add have friends from multiple age groups! It’s give life a unique perspective when you hear it from a 25 + or -25 yrs viewpoint imo.
a little Shalimar
Speaking of Guerlain -they have moved their spa from the plaza back to Waldorf Astoria. They are hosting a Shalimar exhibit that is all sold out..ugh! Don’t they know who I am? lol
They should have rolled out a red carpet!!
Have we ever done this for the CP-You can only have one fragrance. What one could you wear every day? I was pondering that and that would be difficult.
SOTD is Shalimar L’Essence.
You smell entrancing Kris! Gosh I would struggle with that CP making a choice!
Thanks!
I like this cp idea 👍
We have done desert island 5, that was really hard! 1 might break everyone 🙂
Interestingly enough, I would probably not pick any of my favorites I did for the desert island. I would pick something floral and that is easy to wear all the time. Probably Marc Jacobs Daisy. That’s nice on me and I do get compliments.
Ok, maybe I didn’t understand the original idea…you mean just wear one fragrance for a week, not decide on one fragrance you could live with forever?
I think we have done it before but we can do it again even so…
No, I meant it your first way. I don’t think any of us here could do it. Some people have a signature scent and that’s all they ever wear. My mom wore RL Romance for years.
I am thinking that a good scent for the ‘wear it all week’ might be a fragrance with many different facets that develops over time and smells a bit different from wearing to wearing.
I’m among those of you who have already posted about the change in weather – a chilly and damp day with the threat of wintry mix tonight and some real white flakes this weekend. Temps in the 20’s tomorrow night and Monday night, so all that beautiful fall color is just about to end. 🍁🍂 I’m so-o-o glad – and grateful – we made that trip this week to enjoy nature’s beauty one last time!
And like Pyramus and apsara today, I’m enjoying SJP Stash today – and it even has a vetiver note!
Heading out tonight to an unusual event, Banjo Astro After Dark, a combination of music + astronomy + pizza! Short talks (3-5 minute vignettes) interspersed with performances of original songs from local songwriters all centered around an astronomical theme at a restaurant with great pizza. This all organized by a talented musician we met at a folk music event a few years ago – a fiddler and banjo player who in his real day job is an astronomer. Should be fun!
Wishing all a wonderful evening ahead! 🪕🌖🍕
🍕dinner twins! Yum!
That sounds fantastic!
That sounds fun!
For a day of end of season garden work and raking leaves Katie Perry Meow. Yeah, I do like fruitchoulis and cat-shaped bottles. 😁
Hey, you worked for it! (I ought to have done some raking but didn’t)
I love ANYTHING cat!!!
And knitted kittehs.
Meow!
I’m commenting late in the day, I’m not sure what happened to my morning and afternoon! I’ve had a CdG incense weekend, with Kyoto yesterday and Ouarzazate today.
I tried the new Hermès Barénia Intense and I really like it. I thought Barénia was pleasant, but no more than that, the Intense version is much richer. My nose says honey, but that’s not in the lists of notes that I’ve found.
I really like the intense too.
Me three! Such an interesting scent.
Still in yesterday’s Cheirosa 62 but getting in the shower soon. Not exactly looking forward to all the snow tonight. Will be making chicken teriyaki tonight for dinner.
Looking at Mitsouko, Lyric or vintage BaV for today’s SOTD.
All great choices and you will smell fab!
We have a couple inches of snow on the ground and it is still coming down like gang-busters here! (Now, as I think of it, not sure I like this term – have to go look up exactly where it comes from!)
I am resisting the change in the weather, wearing Fox in the Flowerbed! So pretty! I have some inside plants that need tending, maybe it will inspire me to do that.
Stay warm, safe and well fed, everyone! So many people are having troubles of some sort not of their own making. I donate where it seems like it will do the most good, count my blessings every day, and pray for Kindness, Peace and Plenty for those I cannot directly touch.
We weatherproofed the travel trailer last night, put antifreeze through the tanks ad pipes, and now I really need to think about our annual trip to see Hubbie’s favorite little old Auntie down in Florida over Thanksgiving.
This year we are going to try to time our driving so we go through Atlanta on the Sunday morning before Thankgiving – last year we were stuck in massive traffic there for most of a day, 2 days ahead of the holiday, along with jillions of other people who didn’t plan quite far enough in advance!
So, the first step toward packing for the trip is to get the laundry caught up. I guess I better get busy, or, at least put a load of something in the washing machine. My sister has a playlist of perky, Italian light opera and what not, suitable for energized house cleaning, but when I listen to it, I admit I am mainly inspired to look at Air B&B listings in Tuscany!
I love a sort of minimalist/maximalist cottage in the wood aesthetic, lots of woods, cozy flufry fabrics, but I spent so much of my childhood in sheepcamps 30 miles from electricity, hot running water, or refrigeration, that housekeeping tends to drift way down my list of priorities. I mean, that fine mountain dirt that works its way into everything, is just a fact of life – why fight it? Fortunately, adorable hubby has the recovering hoarder’s comfort with a good mess, so we have lots of fun, until he is totally out of socks, or something. LOL! Focus, focus!
Sounds like a plan! You may need to consider what some other people may do in lieu of taking a plane …
Yes! The travel trailer gives us flexibility in terms of boondocking or staying in a Cracker Barrel parking lot overnight if we have to, but I feel slightly more concerned about fueling lines. We try to stop at big truck stops with room to maneuver the trailer, but long lines are long lines anywhere. Worst case we end up driving around the back roads of Georgia or Alabama-the “scenic route”, if you will. 🙂 I am largely focused on Auntie’s condo pool and hot tub!
Hope you found that focus! Sometimes looking at airbnb listings in Tuscany is just irresistible.
I am trying to quit! LOL!
Sunday morning, and I’m spending it basking in lashings of Bois d’Hadrien. It’s a very nice hum of evergreen woods and lemon candy wafting up from my wrists. Goes well with banana bread and coffee!
I think O need to try this one!
SOTD for Sunday is FM Portrait of a Lady. At the moment it is 25 degrees. I think it’s a good day to stay home, watch football and read a book.
Ack, we are so much warmer than that yet I admit to a bit of sulking about how grey it was, ha.
Divine, you smell absolutely divine !
Thank you my dear.
Happy Sunday! Sotd Zara Gourmand Coffee.
Since I smell like a mocha latte, I may have to stop and drink one in the middle of errands. I haven’t cared for gourmand fragrances before but this and Zara Cocoa Bliss are two I enjoy when I’m in the mood.
Already researched my CP scent for next week. The hardest was selecting just one painting. Looking forward to everyone’s posts about why that painting spoke to them!
A fragrant day to all!
That is my problem with gourmand scents, makes me want to eat everything in sight, and go fishing for things I can’t see! 🙂
Searching, not fishing. How did spellcheck get so broken?
Would those two scents be good together? They both sound really nice, but I am not much of a gourmand perfume person so not sure if I would like them on me.
I think it would be too much, at least to me. But I loved smelling it while I was drinking my iced mocha latte and doing (boring) errands. I’m so far behind because of my my concussion, then getting sick.
In CdG Black for more vetiver!
We decided to stay in town to avoid any flight issues and we were rewarded with a beautiful fall weekend🍁
You smell fabulous in Black.
Holy Hell
And I was inspired to start blending again. So this morning to my vanilla bean pod/ labdanum mixture I added ylang ylang, sweet orange and oppoponax essential oils. Now will let it marinate for a few months.
What?
My SOTD
https://www.luckyscent.com/product/928000/holy-hell-by-universal-flowering
LOL! How is it?
This made me laugh!
Scentless so far but thinking I’ll put on Kyoto and play ‘find the vetiver.” Last night I reached for Santa Maria Novella Vaniglia which I’d put on top of my perfume cabinet. I sprayed, and lo and behold, it was a SMN citrus cologne, not Vaniglia at all! This bottle is unmarked (the name is often engraved in the glass on the back side near the bottom on older bottles, or else there is a very small paper label on the back that bears the name). So…I don’t know what I sprayed but I suspect it’s the original SMN cologne, maybe the Regina one? Does anyone else have a SMN that has no label or engraving at all? Anyway, that was a rude awakening for me since I was expecting the soothing vanilla cocoa of this scent, but then I extended it with Hermes Elixir Merveilles, which expanded the repertoire a bit. I’m thinking of gifting the bottle to my older son’s girlfriend. He reports that she likes citrus, bergamot, and orange blossom, so I figure it might work. She also likes his Sur La Nil and Eau d’Orange Verte.
Oops…I remember those bottles, it would be confusing if you owned a bunch of them!
I have the original scent, and love it in the summer, but it’s a newer bottle with a label. Here’s hoping the girlfriend likes it! 🙂
Just Dame Mexican Vanilla Body Creme for a day of laundry and shredding and doing some eBay listings as I continue the work of downsizing.
A walk or over to the gym in a while as I have a perfectly lovely November day by the water in LA.
This past year my sister and I have planned Morocco, Turkey and NYC.
And everyone of them we have cancelled for one reason or another.
Sigh.
We booked Zambia, TZ and Kenya a few days ago. I have no idea what will happen next in the world 🌍🌍🌍
Well I hope you make it this time! But nobody has any idea. It is good to keep trying 🙂
Good luck! We loved Zambia when we were there — amazing national parks.
Fingers crossed that this latest trip with your sister goes off!
Spent the afternoon raking the knee-deep leaves in my front yard. The good news is that the tree is just about bare, so that will be the only raking session. Hubby got great satisfaction sucking them up with the leaf blower, which shreds them so they make good mulch. Cozy now with Coromandel on and a cat on my lap. Relishing an insulated mug that I got as a freebie but does a fantastic job of keeping tea or coffee nice and hot.
And fingers crossed for the shutdown to end. I am supposed to be having a girls’ trip to Savannah the weekend before Thanksgiving and it’s too long a drive for a long weekend trip.
Oh, that is the leaf blower i should have!
Wow, it’s cold outside! Temps below freezing, as they were when I awoke this morning to white stuff on the ground and showering from the sky. It stopped and went away during the day but it’s due to return in a big way starting in about 1/2 hour.
SOTD is YR Sable Fauvre, a warm ambery/vanilla scent with tonka bean, benzoin and labdanum notes, perfect not only for today’s weather but also for the clothes we both wore today, mostly brown and gold, for our historical society’s annual meeting and brunch at the country club this morning- a wonderful event we look forward to each year.
And last night’s music+astronomy+pizza event was also wonderful and very creative! The theme was Cosmic Distance, and the musician/astronomer host sent a prompt to 6 local songwriters a month ago, and they each wrote – and performed for the first time – their song. Very, very cool, and very, very thought-provoking! And, as a bonus, we were given the lyrics to the songs and encouraged to join in the chorus of each. Songs 🎶 & Science 🔭together!
Wishing all a great week ahead,🍂🍁❄️
You go to the coolest events.
I saw your weather. Stay safe!
Most of the neat events we go to we’ve learned about from just a couple of local folk musicians who have led us to some really neat almost ‘hidden’ venues which lead us to other musicians and other venues and more events, etc. etc. Most of these are very low cost but very entertaining and very gratifying because the performers we see stay afterwards to chat with people and actually remember us from previous performances and thank us for our continued patronage. We hardly ever go to see a big-name celebrity anymore as this is so much more rewarding and inexpensive!
So glad it was wonderful, it sounds it!
Glad that the weather held off until after your Saturday night event, which sounded SO awesome!
It’s the first snow of the season here. I’m holding off on complaining because I see a few NST friends to my south and west are really getting hit. Rest assured, I will be complaining at a later date.
This weekend I am thunking a bottle of LPRN Couture. I have been wearing it all weekend and tomorrow will be thunk day.
Do complain away…I’d be complaining for sure! We had thunder tonight but I’m not even sure if it rained.
Congratulations on smelling fine while closing in on the thunk!! I have, and I would only admit it here, five versions of LPRN. I think all are very uplifting and linger so well and if I woke up on the desert island with any of them I’d say well okay!
Yay for your thunk in advance!
Envious of all the folks getting snow right now. It’s been too dry out here in Colorado. Last month, Denver received the same amount of precipitation as Death Valley. Not good!
On the plus side, the darn wind has finally moved on. Cold air from Canada has made a brief stop along the Front Range, “cold” being a relative term. I think it got up to 50 here today? Maybe?
Taking care of household tasks this afternoon.
SOTD = O, Unknown! Too chilly for what I have been wearing. Warmer temps will be back soon enough.
Such a good rooty iris!
Thank you! But I got a LOT of black tea with O, Unknown yesterday. The iris was kinda shy.
Oooh, you smelled good!
Thanks!
Happy Birthday Robin! Wishing you a wonderful day and a magical year ahead! Today I will celebrate you in vintage Diorissimo. It brings me many joyful memories as do you and this wonderful community you’ve created. Many thanks and many happy returns!
An absolutely lovely fragrant offering to our Founder of Our Fragrant Feast! You smell fantastic!
Thank you!
Hiya Holly!
Hi Jalapeno!
Holly, so nice to see you, and how sweet to remember my birthday!
Thank you for the kind words! Hope all is well with you and yours!
I wore Mitsouko yesterday and it was a little wild last night. When I was started dinner, I opened a package of chicken, I got a huge whiff of chicken that went bad and had bought that package of chicken a couple days ago and when I turned the package over, it expired on the 4th. I called the customer service line and got a refund. I had make a mention that the employees should be paying better attention to expiration dates, especially with meat and dairy.
I am debating on either ISM or go with no 5 edt.
That’s so unfortunate, Dawn. Happens here all the time. Love it when they offer a refund-like, what about my time and the inconvenience? And I only say that cause it happens frequently here.
At least you have two gorgeous scents to choose from 🙂
The reek of chicken gone bad. Yuck and double yuck! 🤢
It’s Monday morning and I’m starting Impressionist Week in Irish Prima, for Edgar Degas’ ballerinas. Will try to be more creative with the CP theme as the week goes on. Looking forward to Glannys’s posts!
Nice, early points for you!
That of course should have been Iris Prima, not Irish. Grrr — I blame AI.
Happy Birthday Robin! Wishing you a stellar next year! Thank you for your kindness, creativity and vision! You make this corner of cyberspace warm and inviting, which I suspect if we met in person, would be how I would describe that delightful encounter!
Sotd Clinique Happy. Gosh I should wear this more often, I felt uplifted from first spray and my big bottle just invites me to bask& bask!
Happy Heart 💗
That’s a good one!
Thank you LesLiesse!

Happy Birthday Robin!
Excellent, thanks lillyjo!
Happy Birthday Robin!!!💐💐💐 I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating and being celebrated!🥂🥂
I did, thanks allo!
But also lost a crown and spent an hour at the dentist having it glued back on, LOL…so it is good to stay even keeled and take what comes, even on your birthday. The present was that they could glue it back on and not have to make me a new one 🙂
ps lost the crown chewing on a Chuao For The Love of Peppermint chocolate bar, which has pieces of candy cane in it and is one of my favorite holiday chocolate bars, so it was almost worth it, ha!
I’m sorry that was part of your birthday festivities. But having had a lot of dental work myself, I can totally relate to the relief of having it glued back in. The worst is waiting with a temporary, etc.
You’ll be back to chewing on the next tasty chocolate bar in no time!😋
Wearing the snuggly Nishane Pachuli Kozha today. I need to get my impressionist head in gear for the CP and thinking of a Pissarro winterscape❄️
Oh, good idea! I have not come up with any good ideas yet so must get my impressionist head in gear too.
Happy, happy, happy birthday, Robin! 🎂🎂🎂.
Wearing Diptyque Eau Rose.
Waiting for an artic front with high winds to arrive this afternoon. Temps will drop to the 30s tonight feeling in the 20s. Not so happy about it. I am glad tomorrow is a holiday, so I don’t have to go outside at all. I will stay warm and cozy at home relaxing. On my second cup of coffee with a dash of cardamom and an apple cider donut.
Happy Monday! 🌻
Rose note twin and I am glad you can stay in tomorrow! Our local brush with Winter was mild because the ground is still warm, but I have relished staying home! 😁
Diptyque Eau Rose is perfect for staying cozy!
Your apple cider donut sounds quite tasty!
Yes, winter arrived here too tonight! So one of my birthday activities was making my son help me get the outside water turned off for the year…we like to wait until the last possible minute because we are lazy 🙂
And thank you!
Happy Birthday!
It’s a cold rainy day here-but not freezing rain, so we will give thanks. I’m in Fleur de Peau-body wash and EDP. I really love this scent. It’s just happy. I think it smells like cotton balls-just clean and white and fluffy.
Thanks Carole! I join you in giving thanks for no freezing rain.
Happy Birthday, Robin! Hope you’re enjoying some nice tea and more!
I posted recently about seeing a perfume friend in Baltimore at my recent conference who shared some interesting samples with a few of us (just to smell not take). One was incredible and so I ordered some for myself: it’s Mayan Chocolate from the Etsy seller AetherArtsPerfume (no affiliation!). I just got the smallest size which is a 2 ml and they come in a cute little roller bottle (her things are perfume oils). It’s really not very chocolatey but it’s distinctive with good staying power. She writes about it, “Mayan Chocolate pays homage to the origin and source of chocolate within the many cultures of Mesoamerica. Bright, green, vegetal notes are paired with the chilies and spices used to make Xocoatl, a traditional, unsweetened, chocolate drink beloved by both Mayan and Aztec cultures.”
If you’re looking to try some interesting scents at a very affordable price, I recommend trying some of hers. I bought four, and really like another one called “Be My Bunny, a Creamy, Coconut Musk with notes of: Sheer Jasmine, Toasted Coconut and the Softest, Warmest, Bunny Fur Musk Accord Ever!” It’s fun. The shipping was prompt and she included a freebie of Kitten Musk (how did she know?). Several of her scents have won awards and some of them sound pretty weird, so if you’re in the mood for experimentation, I do recommend taking a look.
I have heard of them and they had or maybe still do, a perfume called Winter Kitty (I think). I forgot all about it, will check them out again.
Kitten Musk?!? 😲
Thanks!
I vaguely remember the brand but not if I’ve tried any! That one does sound cool.
Happy birthday Robin! I hope you have a fabulous day.
I went classic yesterday with Miss Dior (the original that I bought around 10-12 years ago) and today I’m thinking of spring in PdN’s Le Temps d’une Fête.
Thank you! For my birthday you ought to give us our spring back, we need it 😉
SOTD is Shalimar MJ. I like using BBW Vanilla Bean Noel body wash and body cream with it. The jasmine and vanilla go nice together.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Robin!
Thanks Kris!
Happy Birthday Robin 💐💐
You Rock.
Aw, thanks apsara!
Happy happiest birthday to Robin! I keep meaning to say that when I read your comments, in my head they are spoken in the voice of Terry Gross (if that is how her name is spelled) of NPR. I have no idea why, unless it is that your comments, like her interviews, are unfailingly calm, kind, and interested. I’m wearing Ambre Russe for the second day because I love it in cold weather, and because I’d like to thunk my decant and move on to the full bottle I bought last year.
Hey, that’s really sweet! And in fact I listened to two Terry Gross interviews over the weekend — Ken Burns (on his new Revolution series) and Cameron Crowe (who has just published his autobiography), so I am honored that you think of me with her voice.
I suspect she is a unfailingly calm person IRL tho and I have to say I am not.
Happy Birthday and all the best wishes to you, Robin!
Stay warm. ❤️
Thanks adanst!
Happy Birthday, Robin and I wish you many more! 🎂🥳🎈. SotD is Rive Gauche from a probably vintage-ish bottle because it has a short ingredient list. I was inspired to wear it by NST’s own Jessica’s post on her blogs about vintage “working women’s” perfume adverts!! No spoilers about her inspiration-go check out Perfume Professor if you don’t already subscribe. 😸🌹. I realized some time ago and promptly forgot that Rive Gauche is probably my favorite rose. Ms. Rose has to play nice with so many of my favorite *other* notes like aldehydes, galbanum, moss, and several florals. And the base notes in my older version make sure everyone gets home safely from the party. We had just under an inch of snow in Southern Indiana. Very welcome and now the blue sky is rolling in. No scary Winter stuff…yet.
Glad to hear that the storm didn’t pack much of a punch for you.
Thank you! Hope that was just enough to make things pretty and no more.
Hello all, and hellooooo, Robin! Happy Anniversary to NST! 💐 How many years is it now? I wrote down the date but not the year. I
’ve missed everyone; you’re my tribe. It turns out that not logging in here has not reduced my screen time, so I’m back! Like it or not. 🙃
SOTD is Elixir des Merveilles. It’s a true November day here, very blah, so I’m hoping to stay seasonal, while recalling the feeling of summer. Hope it works.
I haven’t tuned in to the national weather lately, so haven’t heard about the snow until just reading a few comments now. Hoping everyone stays safe and warm.
AnnE! I am so happy to see you! And very glad to know you are back! Woo-hoo!😀❤️
Thank you, lillyjo! 🥰 I hope you have been doing well. I look forward to seeing you around!
Hiya AnnE! Glad to see you! And I hear you about screen time. I’m doing good if there’s only 1 screen I am paying attention to. 😏
AhHahaHaa! More than one screen!?! I think I would self-combust. Nice to see you too, Jalapeno! Glad you’re still here. 😻
Yay! I’ve missed you and am glad you’re back!
Thank you, dear allo. Thanks for saying hi!
Hello AnnE, so nice to see you here! And of course you smell great.
Thanks, Robin!
Happy Birthday, Robin! I hope you have a lovely day.
I’m in Zara Livre Blanc along with my combo of carrot seed oil and lotion for the extremities.
Thanks Gail!
Happy birthday, dear Robin!
And happy Monday to all. I’m wearing Paestum Rose today. It’s unseasonably warm here, but rain and coolness is expected later this week.
LOVE! Paestum Rose is one of my favourites, and it’s a good time of year for it. It’ll go in my travel bag for next week, when I’m traipsing around Greek temples in Sicily (I wore it to traipse around Paestum 10 years ago).
Oh that sounds so perfect — JEALOUS!
Have a wonderful trip, you’ll be smelling incredible! This is my first time wearing Paestum Rose, thanks to PL67. It’s so beautiful and easy to wear, I’m sad it’s discontinued but very grateful to be able to try it.
You smell fantastic, and thank you!
Happy birthday, Robin! I hope it’s a lovely day for you!
I’m in White Cube today, because someone mentioned it recently and I haven’t worn it lately. I’m trying to recover from my COVID & flu shots — yesterday around 11 a.m. I was completely drained of energy and really had to push to get through the day, probably thanks to the COVID shot. And today I have a lymph node under my shot arm the size of a ping pong ball. Oh well, at least my body is doing what it’s supposed to do.
ZOMG! And yikes!
Thanks, and gosh, hope you are much better tomorrow!!
Happy Birthday, Robin! 🎂🎊
SOTD = Maya Njie Nordic Cedar
It gave me the feels and I would say goes with the artist’s color aesthetics!
Onwards to tomorrow.
Love the smell of cedar, but not on me!
Thanks hajusuuri!
Happy Birthday Robin! 🎂🎉🥳🎈🎁 We are nearly birthday twins; mine is two days later. I hope you’re having a wonderful day! Thank you for NST ❤️.
Early birthday wishes for you, then! 🌹🎊🎁
Thanks Jalapeno! I’ll be at a fancy spa on my birthday ☺️
Oh then happy birthday back!
Thanks Robin!
Happiest birthday to you Robin, from a fellow Scorpio! 💐 I hope you are enjoying your day.
I just added a beautiful scent to my bedtime collection: Guerlain Après L’Ondée. It was a blind buy since we don’t have Guerlain exclusives in my country, but I am very pleased with it. And I think it will fit this week’s community project 😉
Stay warm and safe, everyone.
Enjoy your new perfume NinaV!
So glad you love your AlO, and so glad it is still worth loving…have not smelled a new bottle in ages. It is indeed perfect for the CP!
Okay, it’s Monday afternoon and I’m awash in new things to spray/pat/roll/dab on. Right now I’m furthering Forest Quest in two different things from LVNEA: Ghost Pine oil on one wrist, and Holy Oak EDP on the other. Individually neither is the Quest answer (yet — we’ll see how they develop), but the combination of the two is fantastic, and very close to what I’ve been searching for. And the people at the brand are so nice — apparently they’ve been having trouble with the caps to the 8 ml edp bottles, so they sent along an extra sprayer and cap, just in case. Kudos and enabler pins to therabbitsflower for suggesting these lovely people!
Oh but if you found your answer in layers that works too, right? Or is it still missing something?
No, it turns out that the Holy Oak EDP is IT! Once it warmed up and more time went by, it turned into just exactly what I wanted. The LVNEA write-up is quite accurate: “Notes of petrichor, wet bark, glistening green leaves, and drenched soil settle, in time, into dry warmth, with subtle wafts of frankincense coiling between the mighty branches of moss-laden oak trees.” There are evergreen notes in there too, as evidenced by their list of “featured botanicals” for it, which are oakwood, oakmoss, sandalwood, pine resinoid, cedarwood, green heartwood, frankincense, rose, galbanum, and bergamot. It’s wonderful stuff, and I expect more than the current 10 mls will make their way to me eventually.
Yay!!
Yay, I’m so glad to read this! When I retried Holy Oak before recommending it to you I really thought it felt like what you’d described as your ideal.
Sherif, I came across this perfume from Scents of Man (Isle of Man) called Ancient Forest, and thought of you. Here’s the write up.
Ancient Forest marries freshness and depth using top notes of bergamot, juniper and blackcurrant with pervasive, aromatic wood and wisps of violet. The blend of petrichor and submerged cypress climbs through dense layers of smoky myrrh, oak and ambrette seed. These notes soften with wafts of benzoin and incense, hinting at millennia of mischievous whispers between ancient trees. Resins and coumarins wind their way through the forest tapestry, weaving a capricious sweetness through the arboreal sentinels, leaving a suffused, sylvatic dry-down.
That sounds gorgeous! I love supporting small, out-of-the-way brands, so I’m going to investigate this. Wish I could visit the Isle of Man in person to do the investigating. Maybe someday!
Suzanne Simard might wear this!

Today is the 50th anniversary of the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. I’ve been watching tributes for the past week.
I’m wearing Coco edt tonight.
*Edmund.
I get chills and goosebumps from the Gordon Lightfoot song. Every. Single. Time.
BTW, did you know that the ship’s bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald was recovered from the wreck back in the 1990’s?
Also, the church bell at Mariner’s Church in Detroit was rung 30 times in 2023 instead of 29, after the death of Gordon Lightfoot.
Great song.
Thanks for the link, lillyjo! I’ve always loved this song. My older brother used to play it for us on his guitar when he could remember all the verses. 🙃 (We all grew up on Lake Michigan.)
Sorry for the loss of life on the ship. Gordon Lightfoot had amazing pipes!
They played it on the radio first thing this morning.
Happy Birthday, Robin, from another fellow Scorpio! And thank you for all you do to make our ‘fragrant world’ a better place. I wanted to wear Theorema today to honor you because I know how much you love it, but it has (temporarily, I hope!) disappeared from its usual place.
We lucked out with less than 2” of snow but the temperature was only 25 degrees when I awoke this morning. Brrr! So I’m wearing my old favorite, BBW Twilight Woods, to keep cozy and warm today.
Happy Monday to all!🥳
Oh wow you did luck out!
It was so cold this morning I lost air in my tires.
And, remarkably, despite the snow and the cold, most of our trees that are at full peak of their autumn colors, are still holding on to their leaves today! One more very cold night ahead, I hope they can hang on a bit longer.🍁🍂
Please send me your snow!!
🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🥶🥶🥶🥶
Scorpios rule!
But that is cold!
Happy Scented Birthday, Robin! Adding in my gratitude for your work on this fabulous corner of the Internet. Danke schoen!
Absurdly warm and dry weather here in northern Colorado today. It was 71 degrees F, I think, and still no sign of snow. Typical first snowfall for Denver is October 18 or thereabouts.
Teflon kitty went back to the vet today for follow-up and a blood draw for allergen testing. So her afternoon was not the greatest. She still has some residual infection in her ears, so it looks like another week of those @#$% ear drops. Hopefully the allergen test gives some answers as to why the ear infections are coming back.
Yes, allo, Tef did get a dollop of sour cream when we got home, plus a late lunch. She’s spent most of the afternoon snoozing on her kitty hot pad. Hopefully she’s feeling more like herself tomorrow.
SOTD = Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions, from The Sample Stash. Trying out some new samples this week, I think.
OMG poor kitty, that ear infection is incredibly tenacious. I hope they figure out the allergy.
And thank you!
Robin, I goofed, so sorry! I was thinking it was NST’s birthday rather than yours. 😳 I hope you had a very, very, nice day.
It is nothing to apologize for! I wasn’t sure if you were using in the loose (or French) sense.
