Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Nachos Day! The splitmeet is still going! Birthdays: John Philip Sousa, Glenn Frey, Arturo Sandoval and Colson Whitehead. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in the classic: Guerlain Vetiver.
Reminder: on 11/7, wear a fragrance with vetiver, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Hermes Vetiver Tonka for the CP. I should reach for it more often, but I keep forgetting. A great scent that I always enjoy wearing it.
Happy almost Friday! 🌻
I think that will be my Friday! And I forget it too, don’t know why.
Too many scents to wear. I keep forgetting what I have and that I really like or love.
I should find mine. You smell fabulous!
Thank you, Hajusuuri! I hope you find it.
Happy Thursday, all!
Continuing with my Classic 1970s Week, I’m in that magnificent work of olfactory art, 1000 Parfum, from Jean Patou, (1972.) I have such vivid associations with this one: my lovely ex-wife, a fabulous singer, used to wear this during performances, decked out in black velvet and jewels. It’s really HER fragrance, so getting perspective on it is a little tricky; it’s embedded in my psyche as a nighttime perfume – elegant, dense, unfathomable.
What am I smelling? It sure seems floral, but darned if I can identify any particular flower. Angela, here on NST, says, “It smells more like something unearthed from an attic trunk, hinting at old wool, desiccated violet sachets, moth balls, and aged wood.” Yeah, that sounds about right.
I read that Luca Turin thinks it could be a great masculine fragrance. I suppose so. It doesn’t feel quite right on me at 7:30am; maybe I need to try a few drops after dark.
Honestly I don’t think I could pull off 1000 at 7:30 in the morning, so it really might not be a gender thing. Hope it eased into your day!
You smell great, Daniel. This is a beauty.
Vintage Patou 1000 is gorgeous. But the reformulated version was a fruity floral meh thing before it was discontinued.
That’s a beautiful memory of your ex- Daniel!
I’m joining pl67 in Vetiver Tonka. It’s not my favorite Hermessence, but I think it might be one that needs time spent in it to be appreciated. Tonka is a bit of a troublesome note for me, and on me the tonka in this is almost overwhelming right at first. But now that half an hour has gone by I can smell the vetiver and a bit of something citrusy, and I’m enjoying it very much.
We are triplets 🙂
The irises in my garden have all flowered this week so I’m wearing an iris perfume, Omnia Amethyste. It’s going to reach 20C here today – it will be nice if it happens as I may go for a wander in the botanic gardens.
How lovely!! I am already looking forward to mine blooming again but of course I have a long wait.
Which means it must be just about time to start the paperwhite bulbs!
Collecting points in Black Orchid today. I am wearing this more often, it smells so good and gets forgotten among my newer toys 🙂
Did you try the Reserve version?
No, nor am I likely to anytime soon 😊
TF Black Orchid ages in the bottle so well.
Hello.
Sotd is Xerjoff Erba Pura.
Only one day left in Malaysia! Time sure flies when you are havin fun. I don’t want to leave yet but alas.
I actually didn’t do much damage this trip. I thought I’d be buying perfumes left and right but I only scored a bottle of Borntostandout Gold Juice. I wanted Amouage Sinbad so badly but it’s a Middle East exclusive (for now) so I’ll just have to wait till 2026 and see.
Enjoy your final day!
Sorry you have to come home!
Wearing Dusita Montri today and was so happy to find that it has a vetiver note.
We’ve been planning to visit my SIL and BIL in Tahoe this weekend (and stop by the Fragrance Vault) but now we’re worried about flights getting cancelled/disrupted. If I didn’t plan to see clients in person on Monday I wouldn’t be as worried but the uncertainty is a cloud hanging over a short trip😕
Has anyone else had flights cancelled?
Not so far; but I leave on Tuesday and hopefully things will be resolved by then.
I hope your trip goes off without a hitch😊
We decided to stay home, just didn’t want to deal with the stress for a short weekend.
I just stumbled across a sample of Montri this morning — how are you liking it?
I really like Montri and its lovely rose and oudh combo. Reviews have suggested that it’s the lighter version of its much more intense cousin Oudh Infini (which I could appreciate but never wear in public).
What did you think?
It’s interesting — my brain interpreted the top notes as orange blossom and something green (possibly the petitgrain), rather than rose. I like it very much, and if it has oud it’s very subtle. I’ll have to test further.
Glad that I am not flying right now. Hope that everything works out for you, allo.
I hear you! I’m glad Mr. allo and I were on the same page re: staying home. I was looking forward to seeing my SIL and BIL but not looking forward to packing, the airport, etc. etc.
Don’t blame you for deciding on staying home.
Bonne Chance allo!
By happy accident, I’m participating in the CP. I decided to wear Indigo Smoke, I checked the notes and, voilà, vetiver!
Oh, I have that one–thanks! I didn’t realize it has vetiver in it.
Mugler Angel Muse in the morning, Guerlain Nerolia Vetiver Harvest in the afternoon. Even though the Guerlain has “vetiver” in its name, to me Angel Muse has a more prominent vetiver note.
I was almost positive I was smelling Angel Muse on a customer the other day.
That is so cool-Muse! Did you want to ask but couldn’t while in the professional zone? Our office had a client who was polite but very aloof and very fabulous smelling. I always looked for a way to break the “fourth wall,” but she was all business. I suspect it was something floral by Chanel.
Muse was so good! I should have bought it.
Angel Muse had a bottle that matched the beauty of the contents.
You smell wonderful.
Wearing Silences EDP Sublime today, with a couple of dabs of the old parfum de toilette added to stiffen its spine. Vetiver is among its notes, but my nose has yet to cut that bit out of the herd of other lovely components. Maybe after it settles a little I’ll be able to find the vetiver? I wore just a bit of Mahora last night and to my surprise I WAS able to find the vetiver in that one.
Vetiver is in the base of so many fragrances, and I think especially when there is patchouli too, as there often is, it is hard to pick out where the earthy notes are coming from, if that makes sense (?)
Going with Benjoin Boheme today cause its so beautiful. I have the older frosted round bottle.
My bottle of Deixis should arrive Saturday.
Tomorrow we are going to go see the dinos 🦖 at South Coast Botanical Gardens. I had my sister almost convinced they moved the dinos from Universal Studios overnight on the freeway.

Oh that looks so cool!! Have fun.
I’m wearing a sample that came with my Maksim order: Oud Indochine. This is very pretty, almost fruity oud, if you can imagine such a thing, with notes of Cardamom, Red Saffron, vanilla, frankincense, labdanum, myrrh, beeswax, guaiacwood, oud Hindi, oud Kinam, oud South Thailand, chocolate, cocoa, tar, and ambergris. I got another Maksim sample, called Bestia Sacra, that I am looking forward to trying. I think the house is really good.
Today was my annual squish your breasts until flattened day, and the radiolology center moved all the way across town from its previous location. I battled traffic both ways. It’s raining but now I am snug and warm in the house so all is good.
My regular mammogram place closed down due to not enough business and they went to being a traveling bus screening. I didn’t want to do that so I had to find a new place.
Ugh, I have to do that next week. You should not have to get mammograms when it is raining.
Ouch! Hope you took some Advil beforehand.
An oldie but goodie – Ralph Lauren Safari for women from 1990. Vetiver is there in the basenotes, it’s a resinous mix of florals, greens, resins, spice, oakmoss, and basically the kitchen sink. Every bottle of Safari I’ve ever had has aged very well and this one is no exception. Bonus for the beautiful cut-crystal vintagey bottle, which I also love. The men’s version is also good.
You smell great!
Thank you apsara! So do you in that Benjoin Boheme. Lovely stuff.
A few year’s back a won a bid for the Safari dagger flacon. I was happy to smell that it hadn’t gone off at all. Another one I should wear more often.
How on earth did I miss Safari back in the day?
I agree it ages well! You smell great!
Wearing Like This today for the CP and Tilda’s belated birthday. Gloomy November day, but I’m looking forward to the weather in Sicily, where at least for the next week it’s supposed to be sunny and in the 20s. Let’s hope that holds for the following week.
Fingers crossed for you! I love Sicily.
I hope you have great weather while you are there!
Sending you “good weather” vibes!
I went with Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental for a cozy vetiver amber on this rainy day.
And almost never hear about anyone wearing VO anymore! Actually, Serge sightings are probably down in general.
I agree, it’s rare to see this one mentioned. It’s not one of the standouts in the line, but it’s still a fine perfume.
“Cozy vetiver amber” sounds pretty darn good to me!
You smell wonderful! I may be a copy cat tomorrow! 😺
SOTD = MFK Aqua Universalis Forte EDP
Nice! I was going to wear Prada Infusion Vetiver but I somehow couldn’t get the top to pop off! Oh well…no points but if the thought is what counts, I get double points because I tried to open 2 on account of my buying ways in the before times.
I have been largely absent these past few days because busy. Also, I thought I have to prepare for the call related to the New York State Tax Refund for 2021 (seriously serious). I had the call earlier today with 2 people: a “mediator” and someone from the tax department. Whatever it was, unless my Mediation training was all for naught, I think the mediator did a very poor job AND the guy from the tax department was not any better. We agreed on the facts but our conclusions were totally opposite. I will appeal the decision. I could only try, right? The amount in question is over 5 digits worth if you don’t count the cents.
I haven’t done so yet but will follow-up on my splits by later today. I have yet to receive two bottles from my Nordstrom purchase but will get them tomorrow!
To tomorrow! One day at a time …
Very sorry you have to deal with this, hajusuuri. What a nightmare. I’m glad you are appealing.
Ugh! I hope the tax thing works out for you.
Good luck with the appeal!🤞
Ugh, so sorry! More good wishes for your appeal.
Gah! What an ungodly mess that tax thing is. Best of luck with your appeal!
Sorry you have to deal with this! I hope the appeal os not too long a process.
One day at a time isa great attitude !
I’m wearing the last bit of my Chanel Sycomore EDT sample. I’m not a huge vetiver fan, but I’ve always liked this one.
So much rain here (Seattle). I’m happy that I got out for a walk during a break from the storms.
That was a good one! I would wear it this week but mine is long gone.
I had a dabber sample of Sycomore before the decanting sites stopped carrying Chanel. It was used up quickly. Very good stuff.
Happy Almost Vetiver Day!
Sotd The Harmonist Guiding Water, a floral aquatic. Top notes are Ozonic notes, Watermelon and Aquatic notes; middle notes are Lotus, Cyclamen and Jasmine; base notes are Lily, White Musk and White Pepper.
I find it soothing and calming, like an olfactory water feature with babbling water serpentining through an abstract sculpture outside a busy, hectic building. Whenever I catch the scent on my wrist, I slow down, inhale deeply and exhale refreshed.
That sounds so lovely!
Do you typically like aquatic scents?
Yes! And being by water in general.
SOTD is Iris Poudre that does have vetiver. I was going to finish my iris and vetiver week with VC&A Bois d’Iris tomorrow but found something else with vetiver I would rather wear.
You do love your Iris Poudre!
You smell gorgeous!
I had intended to wear Alien today for my personal big perfume project. My hand ended up choosing Shalimar edp. I wanted something warm and comforting.
I have rain and a dreaded wintery mix in the forecast. We are going to sell a ton of coats this weekend, I’m sure. ( lucky me, I will be off!)
I’d gladly send you 65 degrees with steady 25mph wind! Had gusts up to 40mph.
It’s been over 200 days since Denver has seen any snow. Nashville might get it before we do! 🤯
I think I am getting your wind this weekend.
Oh I hope not. 🌬️
I’m in Lush Ginger today.
And you smell wonderful!
Whoa Nelly! I am running late today! Just got off the phone with an old friend about 5 minutes ago. We had been blabbing for over 3 hours and the time just got away.
So my brother starts with his new company tonight. The crazy with his resume revamps and computer upgrade had some good results. But now he is up to his armpits in a new kind of crazy, the bureaucracy of a major corporation. He’s not used to that at all.
SOTD = Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her EdT. Wanted something with lavender in it today.
Yay for a long call with an old friend and for wearing perfume!
Good luck to your brother with his new job!
Thank you lillyjo!
Here’s hoping all goes well for your brother!
Thanks MossyBerry!
Stopping by late in Prada Candy, a scent I never would have tried but for hearing about it from NST. I need to get a new computer and can’t decide if I will find a desktop or a laptop more useful. I think it comes down to do I want to rely only on my phone when I travel. I don’t travel often and years of office work made me more comfortable with the desk top set up. Hmmmm…leaning toward desktop.
Last time I needed a new computer, I didn’t even consider a desktop. I am so used to a laptop, plus I had space constraints to consider. Good luck with your computer search.
Prada Candy is so much better than the notes list suggests!
Thanks for weighing in for team laptop. That was my first thought but then when I went shopping, the desktops looked comforting. 🤓
I’ve been using desktops forever, mainly because they offer better value for money — you get better specs for the same price compared to laptops. What made me switch to laptops was the war: if you need to move suddenly and can’t take much with you, laptops definitely win. And, of course, there are power outages — especially if a laptop supports power delivery. That’s a game changer.
The space-saving aspect turned out to be another unexpected benefit that I’ve come to really appreciate.
In short, laptops = portability, built-in battery (plus the ability to use power banks for laptops with power delivery), and space and energy efficiency. Otherwise, desktops still win.
All this is very helpful-the space saving aspect is one I had not drilled down on. Thank you! 🌷🇺🇦
I just bought a new laptop today. I didn’t really *need* one, as my 5-year-old MacBook Air does okay, except when it needs to be upgraded or hasn’t been rebooted in a while, at which points it doesn’t have enough memory. But Amazon.com (not, sadly, .ca) is running a deal where the new MacBook Airs are $250 off (that’s a 25% discount, unheard of on Apple). So count me team laptop…really, I haven’t had a desktop since the early ’90s. But if you’re looking for one, and you’re open to Macs (my Macs last 3x as long at least as my work PCs), it might be a good time to buy one.
If I go with team laptop(and it’s pulling ahead), I will go with Apple since that’s what my phone is. I’ll definitely follow up on the sale price! Thank you for your thoughts! 🌹
