Friday scent of the day 10/31

Posted by Robin on 31 October 2025 120 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Halloween! Birthdays: John Keats, Ethel Waters. Our community project today: wear your quirkiest or weirdest or spookiest fragrance.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

No points for me. I'm still out of town and still commando (other than my DIY lotion with sweet orange and ylang). I will head home later today.

Reminder: there will be a community project on 11/7, and I will post it online by Sunday.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Happy Halloween everyone!
I am wearing a vintage perfume by Strange Invisible Perfumes that is strange even by their standards and that’s saying something. It’s called Vine. Very intriguing mix of grapefruit, osmanthus, lavender absolute and black currant bud absolute. It is very animalic and feral scent with a very unique, narcotic and somewhat unsettling floral note. I have never smelled anything else like it. I have a tiny bit of pure parfum from a sample that I got years ago, sadly it was after Vine was already discontinued. Wonder if anyone else ever came across this one!

Akimon, I have a bunch of small Strange Invisible vials filled with perfume but unmarked. I *might* have it. I have been sitting on these vials a long time trying to ID them but am not familiar enough with all of o the SIP fragrances to decode this mystery. If you know these fragrances, let’s talk. You can reach me at denise (then type the at signe) denisehamilton dot commmmm no spaces.

After allo mixed Cuir Mauresque with roses yesterday, I decided it had been too long since I’d done that, so this morning I layered CM with a tiny bit of Rose Anonyme. Mr. G approves. 🙂 Later on I’ll switch to IA The Abandoned Mansion for the CP. We haven’t gotten many trick-or-treaters the last few years, and all of my Halloween costumes died in our garage flood a couple of years ago, but I’m still kind of excited for Halloween this year. 🎃

SheriG I’ve been meaning to ask if you’ve tried any perfumes from LVNEA for your forest scent quest? They have a few that might hit the right spot for you. Some of their perfumes just come in oil format but they also have an EDP line. The ones I’m thinking of are Holy Oak, Foret Dormante, and Feu Follet, which are EDPs. The oils that might fit are Ghost Pine and Fern and Moss.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit. Saturday, and I’m in a resort-town hotel room with a view of a lake and snowy mountains ( even though it’s November there was a lot of new snow last week) -here for a writers and readers festival. I’m wearing Cra-yon Art Life ( a Swedish brand) which is a citrus scent, a bit in the style of Abel perfumes ( not much heft). My session is not until later this afternoon so I will go for a walk around the lake. The water is crystal clear but very cold – perfect for ‘ wild swimming’ though I’m more of a stay warm and dry type myself. No Halloween experiences to share but happy weekend!

ROAR and HISS, people–I’m wearing Tyrannosaurus rex and I’m pretty scary! In fact I’m even going to wear it outside the house, which I don’t normally do. Just had my shower and sprayed it on (two big sprays); so far I am getting cade and civet. This perfume has a boatload of notes and in my experience they unfold in a very long process, ending with a really beautiful combination.
Side note: I read in this morning’s Washington Post about a new scientific agreement about dinosaurs, reached after decades of controversy: there is a somewhat smaller version of T Rex that heretofore was argued to be just juveniles of the big guys, but has now been recognized as its own separate and distinct species. How about that?! I’d share it here but don’t know how to do a free gift post to this site. The name is good: Nanotyrannus.
I don’t do anything for Halloween except buy some candy and put it out for the neighbors to share. There are kids living here but they don’t go around our little community–they must go somewhere else to do their trick-or-treating (in safety, I trust).

SOTD = Imaginary Authors The Abandoned Mansion

Nice! Very Nice! I believe it is the 3rd time I am wearing it. It is very appropriate for today because HALLOWEEN 👻 🎃!

I attended the financial seminar on Social Security. It was a “good” presentation and there were ~ 25 people. The information was too basic in my opinion. I will let the advisor know that at the very least, the presenter should have mentioned that Medicare (assuming you are taking it) will be taken out. I learned something though which is that 35 years’ salary will be taken into consideration in calculating your benefit. I had a good number of years of barely making it past GO but there you have it. The good thing about it too is that there was a couple whom I thought looked familiar and indeed they were! — we went to the same church pre-COVID!

In other news, I’ve never had this before but for those who choose to have a beverage and have the ingredients, this looks good:

Tough week at work. I spent a huge amount of time doing one important task and I am not sure even I did a good job. A totally new project was dumped on me, with high quality expectations but not enough training. I did my best, but I don’t think it was enough. Well, sometimes you have to roll with the punches.

    Happy Halloween! 🎃👻

I’m in the spooky named Grimoire by Anatole Lebreton, an herbal, resinous animalic with a rustic vibe that I love. Yesterday I smelled like a chocolate Halloween treat in CSP Amour de Cacao.

Wednesday we went to see an opera version of The Pirates of Penzance, which was a lot of fun. I wore Carnival of Souls by Marissa Zappas since it’s subtle enough to wear to the theater but also spooky and somber for this week’s theme. I love the perfume!

I am sorry to say I don’t think I ever smelled that one, but I’m sure you smell strange in a great way.

Goodness, no need to apologize! And thank you so much for the warm welcome! I admit I didn’t come back over to this post to see everyone’s lovely replies until now, so mea culpa! (NOW I notice the option to subscribe to responses via email, which is clearly the way to go, lol.) I am very happy to be in such a friendly, knowledgeable, and beautifully-scented community! 🙂

I do not care for Halloween. The next day half off candy doesn’t even excite me anymore since the regular prices are just crazy.
I decided to wear some candy for the cp. My sotd is Prada Candy Night layered with BBW Chocolate Amber body cream.

People here must be candy fiends. By November 1 there is almost no leftover Halloween candy to be had, and the stores are loaded up with Xmas stuff.

I am joining you in not caring for Halloween. Who needs more spookiness and pressure to dress up in costumes? Why don’t we have a celebration of Autumn, a Harvest Fest for the rest of us?!

Songs of the Day: “Welcome to My Nightmare” by Alice Cooper, “Dead Man’s Party” by Oingo Boingo, and “Castle Walls” by Styx.

So Teflon had both a trick and a treat today. The trick was her vet appointment. The vet was very happy about how Teflon looked; her fur is shiny and she no longer has bare patches on her legs. The scabs are gone, too. However, she has lost a little weight since the previous appointment, and she has yet another ear infection. The vet thinks it could be chronic allergies. More ear drops.

Teflon did have a tiny bit of sour cream as a snack/treat when we got home.

My Imaginary Authors sample set arrived today. That brings my total of samples from IA to 10. But I am wearing something that is going to stick around into tomorrow morning and is the witchiest scent I have.

SOTD = Niki de Saint Phalle, from The Sample Stash. Boo! 🎃💀🐈‍⬛👻

Nope. The bottle I have is from the Zodiac series and has Capricorn on it. I wish I would have been able to get Aquarius instead but it was sold out.

Sorry about yet another ear infection for Teflon kitty. Nice that she got a special treat. My 2 sisters 😻😽 came to us from friends with a proud Greek heritage and were used to plain Greek yogurt as a special treat, so we have kept up that tradition.

I bet Tef would enjoy Greek yogurt, too. Dairy has a cautious OK from her vet.

Honestly Teflon Kitty is just like my son when he was young…chronic ear infections.

The vet thinks that Tef’s recurrent ear infections are an allergy symptom. So an allergy panel will probably be in her future.

For today’s cp, I’m going with ‘quirkiest,’ J. del Pozo’s Halloween. It’s quirky for 2 reasons: Although there’s an unidentified quote on fragrantica that it was ‘dedicated to a mysterious woman, a vamp,’ I’ve read that the only reason for its name is because that’s the date the fragrance was released. Indeed, it’s really a floral scent, rather violet-centered, with only a few deeper base notes that hide under its strong florals. My second reason for calling it ‘quirky’ is really its mosh-mash of notes. Joining the strong violet note is banana leaf, of all things, some sea notes, and a number of white florals including tuberose. I’m not sure when or why I bought it and I only wear it on Halloween. I mainly smell the violet that’s a little powdery yet somehow translucent.

Because we live on a 1-block long street and all the little kids here are all grownup now, as usual we’ve had very few trick-or-treaters. Three little kids just now and 3 adorable boys earlier- HS freshmen! They were so cute and told us this is the last year they’ll be doing this. Nice to see they still can be just ‘kids’ sometimes!

    Happy Halloween!💀👻🧙‍♀️🎃

Plus, points just for the name!

We get almost no trick or treaters either, but today I got home after it was all over anyway.

I wore Midnight Poison, courtesy of an amazing NST’er! It’s definitely a special fragrance; I feel privileged to have it.

So far we only had one trick-or-treater at the door. It’s windy out but at least the rain held off.
