Tuesday scent of the day 10/28

Posted by Robin on 28 October 2025 122 Comments

It's Tuesday and International Animation Day. Birthdays: Erasmus, Levi Coffin, Auguste Escoffier, Edith Head, Evelyn Waugh, Jonas Salk. RIP Prunella Scales. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Serge Lutens Chêne. Tea at the moment is an organic Ceylon from Idulgashinna Estate, via Upton.

Reminder: for Halloween on 10/31, wear your quirkiest or weirdest or spookiest fragrance. (This is a repeat.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows Gromit making tea, from the clay animation series Wallace and Gromit.

    Hello.
    Sotd is TF Lost Cherry.
Plan today is packing for my trip to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. In the afternoon though I’ll meet up with two close friends that I haven’t seen in a while, so excited!

Today’s SOTD is Infusion d’iris. I think my dog finally understands that I don’t like it when she chases squirrels or rabbits. After she caught a young squirrel and the poor thing must of had a heart attack and passed. The squirrel was old enough to find food but didn’t have it’s bushy tail yet. I just don’t want her getting sick, running into the road or end up tangling with something far worse.

    Hi all,
I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Woman. It might not be quirky or weird, but it would be perfect if you wanted to dress up as a dryad or an elegant forest witch for Halloween.

I’m wearing Spice Must Flow by ELDO. Our low temperatures are finally going below the fifties this week, so I am celebrating the cooler weather. I love fall, but this October has been both warmer and drier than normal.

Wearing chypres for the last five days or so and today it’s Aromatics Elixir, vintage-ish from 2000 or so: I somehow have never noticed just how much rose is in this. It’s a whole lot! Has my nose changed (probably) or was I just oblivious somehow (entirely possible)?

SOTD is the Boswellia Scotia that arrived unexpectedly early yesterday, and people, I am in love. Perfume marketing prose isn’t usually as spot-on as the description of this is: “Boswellia Scotia is both dense and warm but simultaneously weightless, with aromatic, amber, and woodsy elements providing layers of luxurious smoothness that only serve to highlight the exceptional quality of the frankincense.” I can’t do any better than that, other than to say that it has some kind of “freshness molecule” that I think might be the frankincense, or maybe that combined with Cypriol. It’s lovely, and quirky enough that I will claim a CP point.

You’re getting enabler points from me! After reading the description you quoted I just had to have some, so I ordered a sample from Luckyscent. I got two more too because I haven’t tried anything from that line. Are there any others you’ve tried and liked?

I tried Arborist and (so far, anyway) it hasn’t lived up to the description. But there’s still over half the sample vial to go, so it might grow on me. I love that Jorum does relatively small FBs.

Somewhat at random, but after looking at the notes lists and reviews on Fragrantica, I opted for samples of Healing Berry and Nectary. I guess I went for ones with more fruity notes, but honestly, they all sound unique and odd, with unusual combinations. Arborist was somewhat tempting too, but wow, what a crazy slew of notes it has! Anyway, thanks for putting me onto this line. I don’t think it’s made it here to any of the stores I frequent, or at least, if it has, I haven’t heard about it.

I love Wallace and Gromit, Robin:)

SOTD is my Sisley hair fragrance, which I am wearing in my hair and all over my person. It’s really nice. this sounds like I am damming it with faint praise-I’m not, I promise. to me it has a salt like quality and a mineral aspect. I like it.

This time of year I make a drink to hopefully stave off clod and flu. Here’s the method, in case anyone else needs it. Put about five grindings of black pepper in your mug. Add loads of grated tumeric. Add loads of grated ginger. Add a splash of lemon juice. fill the mug with not quite boiling water-I use 80 degrees C on my kettle. Let that sit for a minute then add honey. Enjoy. I like chomping on the bits of grated ginger and tumeric at the bottom. No need to strain those out.

    Yay for Wallace & Gromit!

Wearing Santal Complet by Fragrance du Bois. I haven’t tried anything else by this brand, but I do like this one. Sandalwood coconut candy. I think you need to like gourmands, but this one is not overly sweet, nor is it too strong or ambroxan-y or amber-woody. It is, however, very $$$, so I will probably just enjoy my decant.

BTW, I got it from scentsgift.com, based in Texas, which had the best price of online decanters. They sent quickly, very nicely wrapped, etc. I’m not affiliated, but had not heard of them before and was pleasantly surprised so wanted to share. Also, did not have to pay tax.

Ha how funny, the perfume I’m wearing today, Coven, got my co-worker to complain to me about my scent when we shared an office about 8 years ago. And actually, I saw her point then because it’s so strong and now even more so because it stuffed up my own nose a bit after I applied it this morning.

It’s been awhile since Serge Lutens loomed large in my mind, and the last few weeks I’ve been re-exploring his empire. Generally through decants. Today am wearing Fille en Arguilles.
I remember circa 2014 when Serge Lutens was available in the local boutique that featured niche fragrances along with artisan jewelry, imported bedding and various international soaps and adorable baby gifts. If I had only known that that was the time to buy all the L’Artisan Parfumeur and Serge perfumes I liked. Alas.
And when the Barneys NY store was in town. Same deal. Why did i think the magic would last forever 😉
Haven’t tried Chene. That’s going on the next round of SL decants.

I am wearing vintage Avon Honeysuckle, in the little golden brown beehive splash bottle with the metallic bee clinging to the hive. I’ve been wanting this one for some years now and finally bought it. It reminds me that cheap vintage perfumes can be very good. (I’m also a big fan of Avon’s giant Oriental musk bomb Mesmerize in the vintage blue bottle). Honeysuckle (a note I love) starts out with a lot of citrusy orange blossom, gets sweeter and more honeyed as it develops, some white florals and woods enter the picture, and spices unfurl though the orange blossom still weaves in and out. There is even a slight mentholated edge a la Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle. $5 at a flea market and delightful.

That Honeysuckle sounds really nice! I also couldn’t believe just last week I came across some still-blooming honeysuckle here in Seattle. It hasn’t even been warm so I don’t know how it’s still holding on.

Feel the same about our California poppies. I still see a splash of orange here and there on walks. Re the Avon Honeysuckle, I PMd you.

Some of the old Avon perfumes were wonderful.

It’s wool socks weather for me. Been windy, with temps struggling to get to 50 degrees F (10 degrees C). One of my knees has been protesting this turn in the weather. Might as well get used to it (the weather, not the achy knee) and pull out my amber perfumes. Also using my BumBum creme on my shins, since it’s now cold enough for it.

SOTD = Pacifica’s Spanish Amber. Leila inspired me to pull this one out, after she had been wearing some of hers over the weekend. It pairs surprisingly well with the BumBum creme. Got a few weird/spooky perfumes, so I will figure out something on Friday.

Weather is going to play a part in what I choose. I have a couple of weird perfumes that are strictly warm/hot weather scents. Those are probably out.

The Spanish Amber is one of the few Pacificas I don’t have, not sure why as it sounds like one I’d enjoy. I love amber fragrances on the fall.

Spanish Amber is probably one of the best ones I have. It beat a Serge Lutens when I was madly testing everything I could get my hands on. Dunno if it is still around.

For some reason neither my son or I can receive texts from my sister anymore but she can receive ours. We tried doing a bunch of different fixes but I think the problem is on her end.
    Any fixing ideas?
My sotd was D&G The One, thanks to a great swap. Tonight I am re-testing Chanel Chance Splendide.

        I’m missing Aurora too.

Has your sister changed phone settings for your numbers recently? Can she get texts from other people?

She gets texts from everyone and from me. I just can’t get them from her. I think she checked her settings too.

If you sister is using an iPhone, she can try going into settings and turning off iMessage, then test out texting you again.

I do know this can happen if someone you normally text switches from iphone to android and apple keeps sending via imessage.

Just came home from a book discussion at my library and am enjoying watching the World Series game. SOTD is Chopard Madness, another good one for the season )and the times we live in!). Unlike yesterday’s orange scent, Hidden Fantasy, in its unlikely red bottle, Madness’ red bottle perfectly suits this red scent, a woody rose with pink pepper, litchi, and hibiscus with a very nice bottom of palisander rosewood, one of my favorite notes. The drydown is lovely, soft and musky. I put it on this morning and can still smell it.

Back to the game ⚾️. Happy Tuesday 🍂🍁🎃!

Late posting in SL Iris Silver Mist. I might do an SL week because I’m not crazy about Halloween and spooky things. I especially dislike fake skulls and tombstones in peoples’ yards. I do like Candy corn, however, which will probably send me to an early, spooky grave😬
