It's Tuesday and International Animation Day. Birthdays: Erasmus, Levi Coffin, Auguste Escoffier, Edith Head, Evelyn Waugh, Jonas Salk. RIP Prunella Scales. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Serge Lutens Chêne. Tea at the moment is an organic Ceylon from Idulgashinna Estate, via Upton.
Reminder: for Halloween on 10/31, wear your quirkiest or weirdest or spookiest fragrance. (This is a repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Gromit making tea, from the clay animation series Wallace and Gromit.
Hello.
Sotd is TF Lost Cherry.
Plan today is packing for my trip to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. In the afternoon though I’ll meet up with two close friends that I haven’t seen in a while, so excited!
Have a great time!
Wonderful! I hope you have a great time.
Bon Voyage!! You must be so excited.
Travel safe and enjoy!
How lovely. Enjoy your vacation!
Safe travels!
Wow, how exotic! Have a wonderful time!
Today’s SOTD is Infusion d’iris. I think my dog finally understands that I don’t like it when she chases squirrels or rabbits. After she caught a young squirrel and the poor thing must of had a heart attack and passed. The squirrel was old enough to find food but didn’t have it’s bushy tail yet. I just don’t want her getting sick, running into the road or end up tangling with something far worse.
Aw 🙁
Hi all,
I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Woman. It might not be quirky or weird, but it would be perfect if you wanted to dress up as a dryad or an elegant forest witch for Halloween.
That is my go to most days, lovely scent
It’s gorgeous, and the black hemlock note adds to the witchiness. You smell divine.
Elegant Forest which might get me to like Halloween costumes again Glannys. I’m unfamiliar with your sotd but am confident you smell CP-ideal.
“Elegant forest witch” would be a costume I’d love to see!
I’m wearing Spice Must Flow by ELDO. Our low temperatures are finally going below the fifties this week, so I am celebrating the cooler weather. I love fall, but this October has been both warmer and drier than normal.
We will not go below the 50s during the day this week, but I am mourning the warmer drier weather anyway…glad you are celebrating!
Wearing chypres for the last five days or so and today it’s Aromatics Elixir, vintage-ish from 2000 or so: I somehow have never noticed just how much rose is in this. It’s a whole lot! Has my nose changed (probably) or was I just oblivious somehow (entirely possible)?
Or, the composition has changed with age?
I remember being surprised as well that it was full of rose, but then I squinted and kindof saw it.
Next time I wear AE, I will look for rose notes.
SOTD is the Boswellia Scotia that arrived unexpectedly early yesterday, and people, I am in love. Perfume marketing prose isn’t usually as spot-on as the description of this is: “Boswellia Scotia is both dense and warm but simultaneously weightless, with aromatic, amber, and woodsy elements providing layers of luxurious smoothness that only serve to highlight the exceptional quality of the frankincense.” I can’t do any better than that, other than to say that it has some kind of “freshness molecule” that I think might be the frankincense, or maybe that combined with Cypriol. It’s lovely, and quirky enough that I will claim a CP point.
It sounds beautiful!
It definitely is 😍
Oh good, so glad that blind buy worked out!
I know — I’ve been on a blind-buy spree lately! One more to come (Bois d’Hadrien), and then I’m definitely going to stop pressing my luck.
You’re bound to hit a wall eventually 🙂
I am so glad to read this! Enjoy your new purchase!
You’re getting enabler points from me! After reading the description you quoted I just had to have some, so I ordered a sample from Luckyscent. I got two more too because I haven’t tried anything from that line. Are there any others you’ve tried and liked?
I tried Arborist and (so far, anyway) it hasn’t lived up to the description. But there’s still over half the sample vial to go, so it might grow on me. I love that Jorum does relatively small FBs.
Oh, and Vernus sounds absolutely beautiful, but I haven’t tried it.
Somewhat at random, but after looking at the notes lists and reviews on Fragrantica, I opted for samples of Healing Berry and Nectary. I guess I went for ones with more fruity notes, but honestly, they all sound unique and odd, with unusual combinations. Arborist was somewhat tempting too, but wow, what a crazy slew of notes it has! Anyway, thanks for putting me onto this line. I don’t think it’s made it here to any of the stores I frequent, or at least, if it has, I haven’t heard about it.
Sounds wonderful. So glad you are enjoying it.
Yay for another lucky blind buy!
I love Wallace and Gromit, Robin:)
SOTD is my Sisley hair fragrance, which I am wearing in my hair and all over my person. It’s really nice. this sounds like I am damming it with faint praise-I’m not, I promise. to me it has a salt like quality and a mineral aspect. I like it.
This time of year I make a drink to hopefully stave off clod and flu. Here’s the method, in case anyone else needs it. Put about five grindings of black pepper in your mug. Add loads of grated tumeric. Add loads of grated ginger. Add a splash of lemon juice. fill the mug with not quite boiling water-I use 80 degrees C on my kettle. Let that sit for a minute then add honey. Enjoy. I like chomping on the bits of grated ginger and tumeric at the bottom. No need to strain those out.
That Hermes compact with the horse is sold out. Can you believe !?
I do think these limited editions shouldn’t be so limited-give us a chance, Hermes!
I love Wallace and Gromit too! I still have not seen last year’s Vengeance Most Fowl and really should get around to it 🙂
Yes, I do this too!! It’s wonderfully soothing for the throat. I also throw in some cayenne.
Carnal Flower
Chai tea ☕️
Both sound very nice.
We were looking for you last week!
My in laws are visiting
Yay, real chai!
Good reason not to be here. Have fun!
I was drinking chai tea (even though it’s not your FIL’s tea) when I read your comment! ☕
And Carnal Flower is beautiful.
Wondered where you were! Enjoy that chai tea. ☕
It’s not actually raining, but quite dark today, and I’m wearing the cozy Ginger Biscuit to act as a perfume cardigan.
I love the idea of a perfume cardigan!
Still thinking a little of last week’s CP and wearing a scent today that I received from Allo quite a while ago. It is Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land. Very pretty!
You smell lovely! 🌹❤️
That Byredo is a very pretty rose. Have your ever tried Rose de Siwa?
No, I have not.
It’s probably the prettiest pink rose perfume I can think of.
Wow, another intriguing group of birthdays today!
Sotd Zara Gourmand Coffee to help rev my long-idling engines. Notes of coffee, chocolate, spice, sweet. I’m not big on spooky, but I can definitely get behind Halloween candy. Maybe if I were one of Glannys’ elegant forest witches I would dress up.
A beautiful Tuesday to all!
A beautiful Tuesday to all!
How are you feeling after your fall, LesLiesse? Better I hope.
It’s been a frustrating 2.5 wks, but I’m finally coming back to life! Injury made it hard to sleep, lack of sleep ran down my immune system, end result a persistent virus.🦠 I feel like I’’m doing better!
Hang in there LesLiesse. It’s been a very tough year for you. Take care of yourself. Sleep a lot. Spray your most basking scents! You deserve it.
😊🤗💪
You’re sounding rather chipper today!
Ty jalapeño! I’m on 24 oz coffee + Gourmand Coffee for some energy. It’s working I think!
Mmmm, you smell good! ☕️Glad you’re feeling a bit better.
☕️🤗 how is there no emoji for perfume bottle?
I have had that same lament more than once!!
Wearing Montale Black Aoud for no reason except that it smells good.
Always a good enough reason! Hope it was a good Tuesday ringthing.
Yay for Wallace & Gromit!
Wearing Santal Complet by Fragrance du Bois. I haven’t tried anything else by this brand, but I do like this one. Sandalwood coconut candy. I think you need to like gourmands, but this one is not overly sweet, nor is it too strong or ambroxan-y or amber-woody. It is, however, very $$$, so I will probably just enjoy my decant.
BTW, I got it from scentsgift.com, based in Texas, which had the best price of online decanters. They sent quickly, very nicely wrapped, etc. I’m not affiliated, but had not heard of them before and was pleasantly surprised so wanted to share. Also, did not have to pay tax.
Thanks for the heads up on scentsgift.com!
It’s 52F here and cloudy. I see the retina doc today, and my eyes will be dilated, so cloudy skies make it easier to drive home. SOTD is TF Patchouli Absolu, a scary scent to some. My friend accused it of scorching her nose hairs!
Ha how funny, the perfume I’m wearing today, Coven, got my co-worker to complain to me about my scent when we shared an office about 8 years ago. And actually, I saw her point then because it’s so strong and now even more so because it stuffed up my own nose a bit after I applied it this morning.
Here in Perfumelandia, our nose hairs are staunch and can take on any scent without flinching!
Hope your appointment was no big deal.
I’m in Andrea Maack Coven today for Halloween week. Yesterday I wore Cadavre Exquis, the limited edition collaboration from Bruno Fazzolari and Antonio Gardoni from years back, in follow-up to wearing Fzotic’s Corpse Reviver on Sunday (Bruno’s reinterpretation of the collab). They are both delightfully weird perfumes.
You are a Halloween fragrance champ!
I do love a spooky or spooky-named scent! And I’ve got others lined up for the rest of the week…
Wow, you’re brave for wearing Corpse Reviver. It was way too much for me.
It’s a lot but in a good way to me. And I only subjected my significant other to it, not any strangers. 😉
Excellent choices!
Thank you, sp!
Just as a Halloween CP begins, our weather has finally turned sunny, and I’m not at all in the mood for a spooky perfume – that would have been just the thing for yesterday’s thunder and rain!
Today I’m wearing PdN’s Maharanih Intense. It’s a lovely soft spice.
Sunny weather is more important…lean into it!
SOTD is Bal d’ Afrique fragrance and lotion.
Dining out with the giver of this so it seemed appropriate and I have not reached for it in a while.
Enjoy your dinner out!
Bal d’Afrique is a great fragrance and you are smelling lovely for your fun dinner.
It’s been awhile since Serge Lutens loomed large in my mind, and the last few weeks I’ve been re-exploring his empire. Generally through decants. Today am wearing Fille en Arguilles.
I remember circa 2014 when Serge Lutens was available in the local boutique that featured niche fragrances along with artisan jewelry, imported bedding and various international soaps and adorable baby gifts. If I had only known that that was the time to buy all the L’Artisan Parfumeur and Serge perfumes I liked. Alas.
And when the Barneys NY store was in town. Same deal. Why did i think the magic would last forever 😉
Haven’t tried Chene. That’s going on the next round of SL decants.
You and me both, nebbe!! Oh for a time machine. I would love to find a vintage Palais Royale bottle of Daim Blond. I sold or swapped mine years ago because I wanted ‘edgier’ scents but rued it almost immediately.
Yes!! THIS IS WHY I DO NOT GET RID OF ANY BOTTLES ANYMORE. Too many regerts. I have a 1 in 0 out policy, and I repeat as needed.
I know exactly which store you mean and I miss it! If somehow we could have known, I would have bought more L’Artisan and Serge Lutens as well. And Barneys and their wonderful quirky selection!! Also missing Barneys. 🙁
Alas indeed! Lots of things I wish I’d bought when I could have.
Then again, I have too much, so that would have just made it worse.
Nebbe, you are singing my song. How many times did I go to Essenza, spritz Ananas Fizz and put off buying it, or the entire Parfums DelRae line, or or or? It’s painful to think about. And don’t get me started about Barney’s – the Aedes de Venustas line!!!
I am wearing vintage Avon Honeysuckle, in the little golden brown beehive splash bottle with the metallic bee clinging to the hive. I’ve been wanting this one for some years now and finally bought it. It reminds me that cheap vintage perfumes can be very good. (I’m also a big fan of Avon’s giant Oriental musk bomb Mesmerize in the vintage blue bottle). Honeysuckle (a note I love) starts out with a lot of citrusy orange blossom, gets sweeter and more honeyed as it develops, some white florals and woods enter the picture, and spices unfurl though the orange blossom still weaves in and out. There is even a slight mentholated edge a la Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle. $5 at a flea market and delightful.
That Honeysuckle sounds really nice! I also couldn’t believe just last week I came across some still-blooming honeysuckle here in Seattle. It hasn’t even been warm so I don’t know how it’s still holding on.
Feel the same about our California poppies. I still see a splash of orange here and there on walks. Re the Avon Honeysuckle, I PMd you.
Some of the old Avon perfumes were wonderful.
I remember Mesmerize being pretty great.
Enabler pin to you Denise. My Chergui is on the way. Thanks for the sample and the Do Son bottle as well.
Hurray! So glad you loved it!
It’s wool socks weather for me. Been windy, with temps struggling to get to 50 degrees F (10 degrees C). One of my knees has been protesting this turn in the weather. Might as well get used to it (the weather, not the achy knee) and pull out my amber perfumes. Also using my BumBum creme on my shins, since it’s now cold enough for it.
SOTD = Pacifica’s Spanish Amber. Leila inspired me to pull this one out, after she had been wearing some of hers over the weekend. It pairs surprisingly well with the BumBum creme. Got a few weird/spooky perfumes, so I will figure out something on Friday.
I’m still not sure what I will wear on Friday.
Weather is going to play a part in what I choose. I have a couple of weird perfumes that are strictly warm/hot weather scents. Those are probably out.
The Spanish Amber is one of the few Pacificas I don’t have, not sure why as it sounds like one I’d enjoy. I love amber fragrances on the fall.
Spanish Amber is probably one of the best ones I have. It beat a Serge Lutens when I was madly testing everything I could get my hands on. Dunno if it is still around.
For some reason neither my son or I can receive texts from my sister anymore but she can receive ours. We tried doing a bunch of different fixes but I think the problem is on her end.
Any fixing ideas?
My sotd was D&G The One, thanks to a great swap. Tonight I am re-testing Chanel Chance Splendide.
Also.. I have been thinking about Aurora. I know she went on vacation but I have been missing her.
I’m missing Aurora too.
Has your sister changed phone settings for your numbers recently? Can she get texts from other people?
She gets texts from everyone and from me. I just can’t get them from her. I think she checked her settings too.
I was thinking about her the other day too.
Thank you Kris. Will be back in the UK and posting in one week.
Thank you Lillyjo! I’m still in France, such a long break this year but coming back to the UK on November 8 and will resume posting then.
The One is a good one😂
If you sister is using an iPhone, she can try going into settings and turning off iMessage, then test out texting you again.
I do know this can happen if someone you normally text switches from iphone to android and apple keeps sending via imessage.
Shalimar l’essence today for me. I’ll have to peruse my stash for weird or spooky scents for Friday.
Smelling marvelous!
Thanks Kris! It’s such a good one, isn’t it!
Just came home from a book discussion at my library and am enjoying watching the World Series game. SOTD is Chopard Madness, another good one for the season )and the times we live in!). Unlike yesterday’s orange scent, Hidden Fantasy, in its unlikely red bottle, Madness’ red bottle perfectly suits this red scent, a woody rose with pink pepper, litchi, and hibiscus with a very nice bottom of palisander rosewood, one of my favorite notes. The drydown is lovely, soft and musky. I put it on this morning and can still smell it.
Back to the game ⚾️. Happy Tuesday 🍂🍁🎃!
Pleasantly surprised that the Blue Jays are keeping up with the Dodgers!
Go Blue Jays!
Yes👍!
Me, too!
Late posting in SL Iris Silver Mist. I might do an SL week because I’m not crazy about Halloween and spooky things. I especially dislike fake skulls and tombstones in peoples’ yards. I do like Candy corn, however, which will probably send me to an early, spooky grave😬
My brother and I both liked candy corn when we were kids. 🌽
Simply delicious and addictive…the bane of dentists!
I’m with you on disliking the ghoulish stuff in people’s yards. I do love Jack-o-lanterns. And candy corn.
