Welcome to the weekend and our standard-issue open thread poll. PSA: our next splitmeet will start on Saturday 1 November.
Meanwhile, talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last perfume you tried and loved but probably won't buy, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: top image is above in autumn [cropped] by Kumiko Nakashima at flickr; some rights reserved.
Robin, have we ever done a community project of wear a fragrance that smells like your favorite shampoo, hair product, body wash, etc? That might be fun!!!
Great idea! I have a Lush hair product that I love (Revive) and I wish they’d make a fragrance of it.
👍
Sounds good, will add to list!
👍
Oh, that reminds me: has anyone here ever sniffed the Nivea edt?
I’m commando because I’m waiting for a package sent by one of my closest friends full of fragrant goodies.
Yesterday I wore no 19 vintage perfume. No 19 I associate with flopper2.
I did an iris week. When I think of iris I think of Pl67.
🩷
😻
Happy Saturday! It’s raining and blowing madly here this morning, and I’m all cozy in Profumum Arso and my favorite fleece pullover. Arso is thiiiis close to being the ideal fir forest scent I’m hunting, but is prevented/saved from that by a gorgeous ambery smoke note. In said hunt, I succumbed to yet another blind buy that will get here next week — Jorum Studio Boswellia Scotia. If the name hadn’t already drawn me in, the notes would have: “Royal Green Hojari frankincense, pink pepper, saffron, cistus labdanum, mysore sandalwood, cypriol, patchouli, black hemlock, fir balsam, olibanum.” Oh, not to mention a blind buy of Goutal Bois d’Hadrien after several recs here last week … but that one was nearly free in perfumath. So much to confess to Lady Donatella next time.
Do report back on Boswellia Scotia, that sounds tempting.
I have a bottle of this one. I think it was limited to 500?
SheriG, looking forward to your review.
Yes, the Lucky Scent site says it’s sold out, other than the last 40 bottles that LS is selling. I confess that played into that particular blind buy. Will certainly report back!
Meant to ask, what do you think of it?
It’s very beautifully done and for me a bit too quiet. I like my incense with a bit more bite, so I just spray a lot!
Thanks! My taste in incense runs the gamut from quiet (CdG Kyoto) to pretty loud (Kerosene Broken Theories), so I will allow myself to have high hopes for the Jorum one. 🤞
Let us know what you think of Bois de Hadrian-hope you love it.
Happy weekend!
Sotd is TF Oud Voyager.
Anybody else like cozy mysteries? I just finished book 1 of The Charity Shop Detective Agency by Peter Boland. It’s quite good and I do recommend! The books have quite decent ratings on Goodreads too.
I wish there was a word for in between cozy and scandi noir, LOL…I like cozy-ish mysteries! I will look at that series for sure, thanks.
I just finished Murder Takes a Vacation by Laura Lippman, and I would cal it a cozy although that isn’t her usual. It was fun:
https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/laura-lippman/murder-takes-a-vacation/
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/aug/15/the-best-recent-and-thrillers-review-roundup
Thanks Robin! Added Murder Takes a Vacation to my kindle.
I liked it too, and hope there’s a sequel,
Me too. I am not sure why she stopped the Tess series but in all truth I was not totally in love with those, I read 3 or 4 of them but would not read them all.
Wearing Panier des Sens Blooming Iris from a swap with Psfh. A very nice, simple and delicate iris scent. Fleeting on my skin, but it lasts a little longer with the body lotion. The shower gel is also pretty good.
Going out later with my sister and nieces to Halloween activities in the city. Looking forward to having a fun time.
Happy weekend! 🎃
Have fun out with the family pl67!
Thank you, Robin!
Have a great time! Eat some candy too!
Thank you, Lillyjo! I will! 🍬🍫🍭
Hope you are having fun! Are the nieces in kindergarten now? Time flies! I remember when they were born!!!!
Thank you, we had a great time!. My nieces are in kindergarten. They will be 6 y.o. in January. Unbelievable!
You must have gotten this on the latest swap as I don’t see it mentioned on your iris list I have saved. It was just mentioned the other day by hajusuuri.
Yes, I got Blooming Iris from the recent swap, as well as a bottle of Bvlgari Splendida Iris d’Or. That one is also very nice, but the violet note is more pronounced than the iris. If you would like to try Iris d’Or let me know, I can send you a sample.
Thanks for the offer but not necessary. I have smelled the Bvlgari in the past. Years ago, I wore a lot of their scents.
hope you had a good halloween! sounds like you got the shower gel and lotion from PdS, glad you are enjoying!
Yes, I got them and I love them. Thanks your recommendation!
Doing Halloween things with your nieces must have been so much fun! They’re at the age where they know what’s going on and can really appreciate it.
It is a beautiful cool-not-cold autumn day, the sun is shining, the leaves are turning to gold: it’s shaping up to be a spectacular fall, and so I am wearing the goldest thing I know, Mitsouko. I knew as soon as I looked out the window it would be the perfect choice for today.
This all sounds perfect, pyramus!
After talking about Lyric this week, I reached for its warmth and comfort on this 100% rainy day 🌧️☔️
I love Lyric!
You were my Lyric inspiration/enabler!
I almost went that direction, too!
Stay dry, you certainly smell wonderful 🌹
Wearing Cheirosa 62 today. Trying to finish off the hand cream and a 1 ounce bottle of it. Some time in early November Sephora is having their sale. I might partake for Christmas gifts but haven’t decided yet.
Have you thought about getting the big Cheirosa set for yourself?
I have a big bottle of the body spray and a few of the lotions. I want to finish the travel bottle and a couple of the lotions. I did get a set of the 1 ounce bottles of the body spray a couple months ago.
Now I’m properly scented in Creed Wind Flowers, Byredo Blanche, Jardins de Misfah and Nasomatto Narcotic V. I love them all. Will give them each a proper separate wearing starting tomorrow with my usual massive amount of sprays.
Now that’s properly scented! Lol.
Looking forward to any feedback on them.
I can tell you right now that I LOVE them all!! The Blanche will live in my office because the kids will love it. I have a feeling my daughter will steal the Wind Flowers because it’s similar to Coco Mademoiselle. The Misfah starts out as sweet almonds, then dates and now I’m getting a sweet tobacco vibe. I’ll be curious to try this in our bitter cold. The Narcotic V is a gorgeous tuberose. . Loving them all!!!!
And PM me if there’s anything you want to try!!!
Didn’t have a chance to post yesterday, but my SOTD was my most expensive blind buy ever, enabled by many here: Shalimar MI.
Today I’m in Apartment Please Wait Here, which I have thanks to Johano’s great South African recommendations.
Plus, Please Wait Here is a great name for a perfume!
I have a troubled mind today, so I went into the dreaded basement to throw out more stuff. I started with one big shoebox ( size 10!) Of papers and one old purse. I shredded all the paper and old cards. I threw out the purse. The inside was possibly moldy. I did find some old rhinestone jewelry of my Grandmother’s that I used to play dress-up with as a kid. I am keeping the jewelry.
My dog knocked over my purse and out came my sample of Santal Carmin, so that is my sotd.
Glad you’re keeping the jewelry and the fur babies always have a way of finding good things. You smell great.
I hope your mind calms down lillyjo. Hugs.
The big maple tree in the front yard is a glorious pinky-gold color and shedding leaves in the breeze. The lawn guy came yesterday and gathered all the leaves off the lawn but five minutes after he drove away, a big wind gust blew so many leaves off the tree it looked like no one had cleared them at all. Fall in the Pacific Northwest! It’s raining again today so I am cozy and warm in Stash.
So nice, Foxbins! I lived in PDX and Beaverton for 18 months and loved the fall there.
Stay cozy!
We were almost scent twins today but I picked something else. Stash is so good, I’ll wear it tomorrow.
SOTD is my new bottle of JM Ambre Labdamum.
I like it a lot, even more than a week or so ago when I first tried it.
The sun has burned off the fog, so a walk or the gym is in order.
Got my fingerprints done yesterday for the library role and will hopefully start in November. I signed up to teach one class a week for three months and see how it goes from there.
Going to a class called Brain and Body on Monday evening.
The need to keep those connected is pretty important to me these days.
For the makeup lovers, got the new Merit sheen shadow in Iris. This older eyelids love it.
Had no idea JM had a new release but it sounds lovely. Excited for you about your new library gig. All three of my kids did over 500 hours each of volunteer work at our local library and it was the best experience ever. Libraries are magical.
Good kidz you got there!
Yes, libraries are such a hub for communities. I can still remember the day my dad took my sister and me to the NYC library past the lions to get our first cards.
I was just looking at those Merit e/s wondering how they’d work on my old eyes, so thanks for the info.
Working well, soft and sheer, easier to apply than the matte ones.
SOTD = Dior Addict
Seriously good! The bottle has a great dispensing mechanism. I have to wear this more often and I know I won’t run out!
Yesterday’s Legends & Lore Haunted History Tour was the perfect almost end cap to Halloween. There were 4 of us so it was nice and cozy. I am not into history although my friend is, so she was “fact-checking” quietly during the tour. Me? I just enjoyed it. I almost could not find the clock mentioned on the ticket, but eventually found it once my friend waved me over. Next year I will check out the events earlier.
In other news, here’s a gift article from The New York Times on where to park your money to make it last a little longer. Apparently, online only financial institutions have better rates than the traditional.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/24/business/interest-rates-cds-savings-accounts.html?unlocked_article_code=1.wE8.us2D.v4TowQGyKbVH&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Oh, I love Addict. (And, yes, a cool spray mechanism.) You smell fabulous!
Thanks, Daniel!
Ohhhh smelling especially good today 💙
Thanks, ringthing! I initially smelled it on a co-worker and she mentioned that she was down to her last few spritzes. I was enamored by the perfume smell.
Smelling fabulous, of course! That’s such a great scent.
Indeed it is!
Today I am wearing sandalwood body butter, vanilla oil and plenty of Chanel No 5. I met with a new caretaker at my mom’s and felt very pulled together, No 5 and No 19 are both real confidence-boosters.
I hope you found the right person!
She’s wonderful, made mom’s favorite apple crisp and mom was thrilled.
Thankful to hear a positive update on your Mom’s new caretaker.
Thanks Jalapeño.
SOTM Mitsouko! I sprayed with abandon and hauled a bunch of stuff to the recycling center, where a fun perfume thing happened. The middle-aged, slightly scruffy guy took the last if the recycling out of my car, and then said, “What is the perfume? Your whole car smells good!” I told him “It’s a classic called Mitsouko. Some people think it is for old ladies! ” He said,” No no, you smell really good!”
Always a little fun validation to have a total stranger sort of gush, particularly about Mitsouko, of all things. 🙂
This evening we went to a Co-op dinner, one of our friends has worked at the local coop housing organization for many years, and they had some national big wig coming to town. We had better than expected buffet food, and a couple nice speeches and adorable hubby saw some people he hadn’t seen in years and years, and generally had a good time. For this dinner I thought Mitsouko might be a bit much, so I wore Fox in the Flowerbed, which hubby adores, , and which I enjoy, so I had a really pleasant perfume day!
That’s a great perfume compliment story!
Great story!
Nice! It’s good to see you meredifay.
I have had people say the same thing when I wear Mitsouko but the vintage stuff. Funny thing is that my mother said it smells dated.
Great to see you and glad you’re enjoying Fox in the Flowerbed😊🌸
Wonderful perfume story!
Happy Saturday! Still showing Major Symptoms on my Oura ring as they call it so I’m back riding the sofa under a blanket.
Sotd Shalimar L’Essence in honor of Dad’s birthday today and my parents’ love story. I remember how he smelled of Old Spice and Barbasol during the week, then Aramis for dates and special occasions. After he retired he added some Polo and English Leather to his repertoire. I recall loving the Hai Karate ads and wanting him to wear that, but he said it wouldn’t be fair to Mom. 😆 Today his scent memory is a blessing!
Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have energy to read Friday’s posts.
Hope you feel better tomorrow. Loved your scent memories post.
🤗
Keep resting LesLiesse.
I think it’s working. It’s been a tough virus to shake off.
Feel better soon. Copying your scent today!
Scent twins!
Keep nesting (oops, meant resting) and you’ll be good in no time!
Hygge to the hundredth power around here!
👋 nice to see you!
It is always nice to see you LesLiesse! but I meant this for cazaubon 😘
Thanks ringthing!
I hope you will soon be on the mend, LesLiesse. At least it sounds as though you have not lost your sense of smell. (small blessing).
Did you ever get a COVID test?
Yes. Negative for both Covid and flu. It was a virus.
Glad that 2 nasty actors were ruled out.
I heard through the facebook grapevine that my name had been mentioned, so I thought I would pop in and say hi. All is reasonably well with me, my health is good, just other extraneous family and other circumstances that are causing some anxiety and mental stress, but given the state of the world, that’s probably pretty much expected. I’m in San Diego for the winter but am looking forward to returning to Canada in March asap. I’m not wearing much perfume, mostly selling off my collection and keeping a few favorites. I hope to get down to less than 100 bottles between my two residences. Nice to see familiar names!
Hello to you, cazaubon. San Diego smelling delish due to your presence!
I’m glad you dropped in!
Hi cazaubon, I’m so glad you stopped by!
Hello cazaubon!
We have been thinking of and missing you. It’s so nice to see you here!
Good to hear from you!
Good to see you again!
Hey hey! Love that you’re back! It is good to see you no matter how (in)frequent you decide to stop by!
Hello there! So nice to see you drop in.
Hi there Cazaubon. Nice to hear your news and I hope winter in San Diego goes well.
👋 nice to see you!
So glad you checked in and so glad you are well!
Hiya Cazaubon! Glad to hear from you, and that you are doing well.
So nice to see you here!
A quiet day at home today catching up on what I missed with 3 days away. We have some nice fall color here, but I was surprised on our trip to Western Illinois that was supposed to be peak color was really very muted and there wasn’t much of it. I read in the paper the other day that due to the drought many trees wouldn’t turn and that the leaves would just dry up, turn brown and fall. 😞
SOTD is Pacifica Mexican Cocoa. I love spices in the fall as well as cocoa or chocolate notes so I’m really enjoying that combo in this scent. It’s another of my Pacifica scents that’s almost gone. I will miss it!
Enjoy the weekend 🍁🍂🎃!
I hope you have a lovely weekend too, Laila.
Our fall color is less than stellar too.
I remember Mexican Cocoa! Shame that original series is gone.
Sounds yummy, Laila. Come sit next to me.
We have a snow warning which seems a bit unlikely but, given the recent weather , entirely possible. At the moment it’s raining and I’m looking at two paradise ducks that are perched on my neighbour’s roof ( another unlikely but true event). I’ve been re-reading Janet Malcom’s Two Lives, a book about Gertrude Stein – which I like even better the second time around. There’s a new biography of Stein out by Francesca Wade which I will begin once I finish the Malcolm, and I’m also dipping into Wade’s selection of Stein’s essays, published by Pushkin Press. I think it will be hard to beat Janet Malcolm though. Reading her work and insights is such a treat. Wearing Ambre des Merveilles and Smoked Ambergris because I couldn’t decide. Labour Day here, so a three-day weekend, except for those who work retail, etc etc.

Review of the Wade book, 2025
I had to google paradise ducks…what lovely birds!
Have not read Gertrude Stein in eons. The Wade book does look fascinating, thanks for the links!
I am off work today and tomorrow and spending today in Ubar. I did some cleaning and about to start a load of laundry. It’s funny that everyone in my house has more underwear than I do. So that means that I have to do laundry a little more often.
Or perhaps treat yourself to some new undies?
Just ordered some, after putting it off for a few weeks.
A beautiful Sunday morning here, clear blue skies, bright 🌞, and a much-needed dip in the hot tub brought back the zen that I left behind in the countryside. Pacifica Mountain Temple Incense keeps the zen going today, only there’s just a few drops left before it’s thunk! I will miss it.
I’ll add some Hermes Ambre des Merveilles for tonight’s concert at the Old Town School of Folk Music featuring Robbie Fulks. We first saw him at a Wisconsin folkfest a few years ago and he really knows how to emote a song. Those of you who, like me, live in a different world as an adult than you did as a child, may appreciate my favorite song of his, ‘That’s Where I’m From.’ Though I love my middle-class suburban community where I’ve lived most of my adult life, I’m proud of my south side Chicago working-class roots and sometimes look back at them with a melancholy fondness. Hope you enjoy!🎶
https://youtu.be/ICO1O9HEbz0?si=jzvtYMKAQtdv06dl
Thanks for the music!
Robbie was fantastic and we had front row seats. He had several excellent musicians perform with him and they were rockin’. But he does ballads so well, and the highlight for me was that for only the second time I heard him perform That’s Where I’m From live.
How lovely!
Enjoyed the music! Thank you Laila! Are you a White Sox fan being from the South side?
Happy Sunday to all and feeling better but weary. Sotd The Harmonist Moon Glory.
Will go back over Friday’s posts later. Lunch and an Outlander S7 Pt 2 dvd for now. I first read the books starting in early 1990’s. Like Game of Thrones, the series will be over before the last book, Book 10 is completed.
Tiny epiphany: Moon Glory has a pronounced Honey note and I’ve been quaffing lavender tea w honey. Perhaps why I gravitated to it instead of my planned PG Indochine + SdJ BBC? #bodywisdom
Glad you are feeling better.
🤗
After wearing Ubar, I am in Lyric. I figured why not? I am waiting on my BBW order and the Smashing Pumpkins hoodie that I ordered. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is one of my favorite albums and probably is one of the most influential albums of the 90’s.
Vosges Chocolate is doing a limited edition collection based on “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”. Have you checked it out?
In SL Fille en aiguilles for its foresty goodness🌲
Such a beauty.
SL does pine and woody notes extremely well.
I’ve woken up to a lot of snow on the hilltops, all white, which is pretty unusual for late spring. It’s pretty cold too so I’ve given the birds that come to feed an extra helping of sugar water and mealy worms. Some of them have fledglings in tow, big fluff-balls that shadow them demanding more and more food. Wearing Daim Blond .
Thank you for helping your birds survive the unusual late spring weather, especially with babies in tow! We watch ours carefully and help them along if necessary. Blue jays like to squawk their demands for peanuts but then they also say ‘thank you’ after Mr. Laila listens to them.
I’m sure it is pretty, but hope it melts quickly…nobody wants snow in spring!
Good morning! Popping by to say that I’m wearing Patou’s Adieu Sagesse.
Hope it was a good day Gaynor!
Happy Monday! Feeling better.
Sotd Jones Road Shower parfum. Fresh, energizing, orange blossom.
Wishing all a fresh energizing day!
Glad to hear you are on the road to recovering!
BTW, did you hear that Jones Road has a second fragrance out?
Yes I did. BKLYN I think. It didn’t appeal to me but I can’t remember why.
I wanted to mention it sooner but kept forgetting to.
Checking in from work wearing Narciso Rodriguez For Her L’absolu. I did way more resting than cleaning over the weekend.
I did go to BBW to use my free mini coupon. Did you know those are good on the lip gloss? I picked up the Milk one for my daughter. I also got a few hand soaps.
Yes, I got some of the lip glosses, too. The S’Mores one is yummy!
Sounds like you needed the rest.
Happy Halloween Week 💀🧙♀️. 🎃! In the spirit 👻of the season, my neighbor’s magnificent maple tree is shining a brilliant orange against a blue sky and 🌞. It inspired me to choose a SOTD that said ‘orange.’ So, also in the spirit of the season and the tree, I chose BS Hidden Fantasy. Its name certainly suits the upcoming holiday and, despite its red bottle (there’s nothing red about this scent) its notes include bright orange and tangerine with a touch of clove for a bit of spice and some vanilla and woodsy notes at the bottom. A perfect choice for today!👍
Happy Monday 🍁🍂🎃! Wishing all a good week ahead!
Lots of leaves are falling off the trees here now. They might last another week or so. Doesn’t help that it’s been rather windy recently.
Wore Chanel Boy EdP yesterday to meet my mom’s new puppy. Puppy is 5ish months old, and sooo sweet it is almost unbelievable. I am in my mid 40s and married but am daydreaming about moving back in with my mom just to be with puppy all the time. It isn’t happening. But I am definitely thinking of when i can take the next day off to hang with puppy…and i guess my mom can be around too.
Oh, sweet! I can certainly identify with how you feel. 🐶❣️
LOL! Would be easier to just steal the puppy I am sure 🙂
Moody skies here this afternoon with clouds coming and going. Right now there is a little bit of rain, just enough to mess up the car windows.
As promised, a tech was here to look at my clothes washer; he showed up this afternoon. A fault/error was discovered, so a new circuit board will have to be ordered. Takes 3 to 5 days to show up. A couple of laundry puns may or may not have been uttered…
SOTD = YSL Black Opium EdP. I found this in The Sample Stash and based on how dark the perfume is now, it’s been sitting around for a while. It’s gotten better smelling, too. Guess that tells me my bottle of Black Opium Neon will need to macerate for a few years.
Glad you will be able to get it fixed without having order a new one!
Since the washer belongs to my apartment complex, they would be the ones responsible for getting a new one into my unit. An appliance move would SUCK. I’m on the third floor, no elevator.
😳
Good luck with the washer . . . Hmmm, laundry puns?🤫. You smell good, I love the Black Opium, but then I love everything coffee ☕️.
When describing what was happening with the washer, I said that the clothes weren’t getting agitated. As a result, I was.
My brother came up with that bit when I first told him about the washer.
🤣
Lol! Love it!
Oh that’s very good!
I was in Aromatics Elixir today. Did a bit of yardwork but I need the green bin emptied before I can do more this week.
Oooooooh, you smelled good!
Thank you! It’s pretty good in cool weather. Although I’ve been known to wear it in summer every so often. 😁
