Wednesday scent of the day 10/22

Posted by Robin on 22 October 2025 104 Comments

It's Hump Day, International Stuttering Awareness Day and National Nut Day. Birthdays: Franz Liszt, Doris Lessing, Robert Capa, Catherine Deneuve and Jeff Goldblum. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in OG Prada Infusion d'Iris, which I almost never wear since I bought the Absolue. I thought of it because Dawn mentioned it yesterday, and what I'd like people to think is that it's not really that weird that I keep smelling my arm.

Reminder: on 10/24, wear any fragrance you like and tell us what you’d like people to think of you when they smell it on you, OR, wear a fragrance and connect it with a fellow reader who “enabled” you to get it or who you know likes it/has mentioned wearing it. Both of these projects were suggested by allo.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is from Prada's "Days of Summer" campaign, 2025.

    Hello.
Sotd is Amouage Dia 40. I’d like people to think I smell *expensive*, classy and clearly have great taste, ha. Step aside No.5!
Trying to show restraint against all the holiday makeup releases. They are all so pretty, festive and sparkly. I confess I already dropped some coins in Dior and Chanel for those gorgeous Coco Mademoiselle and No.5 body oils.

To me, Dia is more along the lines of no 22 while Gold is along the lines of no 5. Dia plays nice on my skin while Gold does not.

My choices are no 5 edp or no 5 extrait today. All I know is that it is a no 5 type of day. It is a wet and cold day today and need a little bit of comfort.

    Good morning, all! Happy Wednesday.

Musk Week continues. (The only criteria is that the perfume has the word “Musk” in the name.)
    Two more vintage fragrances today:
On my left hand, English Leather Musk, from 1972. Initially, the citrus and spice notes at the top give it a bracing, old-school barbershop vibe, but they fade quickly and you’re left with a pleasant powdery, slightly floral skin-scent with a hint of soft musk. I don’t detect any leather, so I’m not sure why the folks at MEM attached this to the original, other than as a marketing ploy.

On my right, Old Spice Musk, from 1974. Again with the barbershop notes – citrus, geranium, anise, basil – and they’ve got much more staying power than the English Leather. As it dries down, some of the floral notes of the original (and gorgeous) Old Spice come forward, but I’m reminded more of Brut by Faberge. If you try hard, you can almost get a whiff of the musk you might find in, say, Kiehl’s, but it’s well disguised.

(Previous vintage entries this week: Ralph Lauren Chaps Musk Cologne, and Monsieur Houbigant Musk Cologne.)

Daniel, have you ever tried vintage Chaz cologne? I think by Revlon. I remember it being an inexpensive option for the guy’s in middle and high school. It doesn’t really get mentioned though. Jacklyn Smith California was another good one.

lillyjo, thanks for these! I’ve not tried vintage Chaz – I’ve gotta look for it.
I have a small bottle of Jaclyn Smith’s California (For Women.) I’ve only worn it once, and I’d forgotten there was a pronounced musk note – sure enough, it’s there! Looking it up, I see there’s a men’s version of California, which I’ve never smelled.

Oh gosh, there’s so much gorgeous scent in your post! Glad you’re splitting all your riches between arms, Daniel. I noticed that today is the photographer Robert Capa’s birthday. I was wondering what your thoughts were on his work?

Robin, you smell wonderful today and thank you for giving me the idea to wear Infusions d’Iris. Not only do I feel cozy and confident while enveloped in it, you were definitely the enabler for the Iris and the Absolue (among many!) when I first came to NST 😊📌

Day two of my theoretically vintage haul and today it’s Jean Couturier Coriandre, which used to be a green chypre back in the seventies. I suspected from the appearance of first the box and then the bottle that this was not vintage, and I was right. First thing when I uncapped it was a massive gust of patchouli, so I knew it was an entirely reformulated “new chypre” (aka not a chypre at all) from probably the mid to late 2010s. Could be wishful thinking but I detect a few molecules of something oakmoss-adjacent, probably Evernyl. And I don’t mind at all! Even if it’s not a chypre, I have no problem with what it is, a very green (actually veering into salad territory) patchouli with floral undertones. It’ll do well come spring.

I love your descriptions of the beautiful scents you’ve bought-thank you for sharing them with us.

I remember reading about the Weil fragrances-I think that particular line was designed to be worn with fur. The scent of the fur coat would compliment the scent, and vice versa. It’s an interesting thought.

I’m wearing Perris Musk Extreme. I got this at a swap night at Fumerie and I think it may return there. It’s a clean musk that starts out floral but then turns soapy. Not my favorite kind of musk, it’s too boring.
The news that one of the cherry aromachemicals will be gone will probably galvanize me into buying TF Cherry Smoke. I have waited a few years now for a travel size but it doesn’t seem to be happening, so I’ll get a 30ml at the discounters. Ugh, I don’t need 30mls of anything.

I’m still hunting. The Fischersund 101 is lovely and is very, very close to what I’m looking for, but needs … something. Maybe more pine resins, or damp moss? Its smokiness seems to dry out the grassy and ozonic notes somehow. There are tons more to try though, so I haven’t given up!

I’m wearing Chanel No 5 L’Eau today. Enabler pins for lillyjo and Jalapeño! I want people to think I smell good and have my act together. Only one of those things is correct.
My mother was accepted into hospice care today and I found an agency that will supplement my current caretaker situation and give me a couple of days off per week. I’m doing more in the evenings now so that’s a welcome relief.

I’m wearing Amouage Journey, I’ll travel in my mind when my physical journey will only be as far as the lounge 🙂 . The enabler pin goes to Kanuka. I’d tried it several times and was still dithering, but she mentioned it a few times recently and I decided it was decision time.

    SOTD = Profumum Roma Meringa

… decant from a swap with cazaubon, whom I miss quite a bit. She always had the latest and greatest and had a wide variety of old and new perfumes. I hope she comes back at some point. This one is citrusy sweet vanilla and I love it!

Speaking of a comeback, I wonder when Deva is coming back? I have seen “signs of life” in her IG postings … minimal but yet she is posting. I hope she comes back!

How do you know when you’ve retired for good? This morning I returned a call from one of the presenters to confirm my attendance at next week’s financial seminar. I mentioned that I am already retired and I thought she asked what have I been doing so I responded with my usual this and that. She realized I misunderstood her question and wanted to know what I did BEFORE I retired! 😂😇🤣

Happy Hump Day! I’m in two scents that were enabled by Daniel, and bring me happy memories of my dad. Prada Infusions de Mimosa now and Jasmine Attar (Falaknema Gajra). My dad’s birthday is upcoming this weekend, which we still celebrate even though he’s been gone quite awhile. They’re reminding me of him because he was very very happy when we all moved here and quite enjoyed the multiple gardens full of beautiful, bountiful mimosa and jasmine. I want to add that I experience the Attar differently at night, when it strikes me as sensuous. In the daylight I experience its sunnier qualities.

Since Mom has outlived everyone at this point, we started about 20 yrs ago celebrating deceased friends and family members by toasting them (usually non-alcoholic Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider) and sharing happy stories again. Sometimes our greatest riches are the people we love and have loved but our gone.

Another gorgeous day here, weather-wise. Plenty of sun for Teflon kitty to enjoy. ☀️☀️☀️🐈

Another day where no one has showed up to deal with my crappy clothes washer. Based on how it is behaving, one of the electronic modules it has is starting to fail. I was able to get an emergency load washed this afternoon. But GOK how long I can limp along this way.

Very unimpressed with how my maintenance request has been handled on this matter.

SOTD = back in Dior Dune again today. The funky topnotes weren’t around today. But the gorgeous sandalwood sure is!

Glad that Teflon is getting a good toasting in the sunshine 🌻
And really sorry about your inadequate maintenance situation, esp for a vital appliance!
But through it all, you smell wonderful today!

Thanks ringthing! If worst comes to worst, there are laundromats in the area. Bleah.

And if my brother is off hitch, I probably could use his washer and dryer. It’s still more complicated than it needs to be.

We didn’t have a washer and dryer for a while after we were married and I spent a lot of time at the laundromat. The one good thing is that you can wash all the loads at the same time but it’s a pain hauling it in and out of the car.

All too familiar with laundromats. It is a huge pain hauling it to and fro, not to mention up the stairs. And some of them don’t provide baskets for laundry in my area.

I’m sorry about the maintenance issue. I hope it gets resolved soon.
      You smell wonderful in Dune.

Thanks lillyjo! Fortunately for me, I do not have a laundry backlog right now. Lucked out in that respect.

Thank you for bringing Dune to mind and nose. It’s definitely going on this week’s list.

That is definitely not right! I hope they get things fixed quickly. It’s the worst waiting for someone all day then doesn’t show up! It’s good to have options but you shouldn’t have too.

Glad that Teflon had some sunshine to warm herself. My cat would do the same; he had a definite “suntanning” position.

I’m glad that Tef has been able to enjoy the weather for a few days. It’s going to be changing soon.

We shall see what happens with the clothes washer…

      You smell mighty fine!

Is this your private contractor? Regardless, this is terrible customer service!

        Thank you!

About that clothes washer: I am renting it from the apartment complex. It’s an optional item, like the parking garages here. I could have called an outside repair place to have a look at the washer, but I figure, it’s their junk, it’s their responsibility to fix and/or replace it. So I am still waiting for maintenance to show up.

Didn’t pu ton scent until an hour or so ago, sp pretty late in the day. Went for Aerin Lilac Path. While it is pretty and nice, it is not the right day for this at all. This says spring. This says floral and purple – which i am not feeling. Lame. I should have gone for something more fall. Like Lolita Lempicka. Or YSL Babycat. Or even Chanel n5 EdT.

Will plan on wearing Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black for bed. It is my favorite nighttime scent for cool and cold weather. That will make things right in my world!

I should dig out Black for the season. It’s been awhile since I have worn it.

I’m wearing Lancome Oud Bouquet today. I was going to compare the Dupe I have next to it ( I think it’s called Melinia) but I didn’t want to gas myself out.
Rainy cool and gross here the last few days. Still better than snow!
