Happy Almost-Friday! It's also World Food Day. Birthdays: Lucy Stanton, Oscar Wilde, Eugene O’Neill, Günter Grass. What fragrance are you wearing?
For Oscar Wilde, who was buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris — where today's photo of the monument of Dominique Vivant Denon was taken — I'd be in Floris Malmaison if I could, but since I no longer have any I went with a modern carnation, Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale.
Reminder: on 10/17, wear the perfume you would like to be buried or cremated in. (This was a suggestion from Deva, who did note that it is a bit macabre, but also that many cultures include fragrance materials of various sorts in their funerary rites. I was saving this project until Deva rejoined us, but since it looks like she has moved on to other interests, I'd like to take this opportunity to honor her since her presence here brightened everybody's day for so long. If it's too macabre for you, don't join in, obviously!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Interesting cp, I’m going to have to think about that. Today’s SotD is 10 Corso Como.
I’m playing hooky from work today, a planned day off actually after several busy weeks. I should feel guilty but I don’t lol. With age comes wisdom.
I walked several blocks to get a coffee and on the walk home I was walking directly into the sun. It felt so nice. Trying to stockpile my vitamin d in hopes of staving off the SAD. The struggle is real.😞
Happy Thursday, hope the sun is shining where you are!🌞
Guilt – the gift that keeps on giving.
Have a wonderful play hooky day.
SAD is real and am sorry you struggle. My sister is deeply affected by it also.
You smell fabulous!
Good, get sun while you can!
Well done you MTG planning ahead like that!
I thought I was grabbing Anisia Bella, but it turned out to be Gentiana, so I sprayed it. It’s just fine in the Texas fall, with temperatures in the high 80s.
Jealous of your weather!
Chanel 19 edt for me this morning. Plumbers here again this morning to replace our hot water heater and deal with a tiny leak in the gas line they just repaired last week. We kept smelling gas so we had a guy from the actual gas company come out with a measuring gadget. He confirmed the leak but assured us that, even though it should be eliminated, the amount leaking is far from dangerous. Houses — grr. The 19 is helping, but I think I’ll venture out later to Ulta (to see if they’ll let me sample a Pacifica or two) and the mall (to sniff Eau des Merveilles Bleue). Thanks again to Laila and Jalapeno for the suggestions yesterday. 🙂
Scent twins!
Nice! Sorry you’re having to use it for strengthening though.
Ha, I am having house issues today too. Grrr is right!
Glad you got the gas leak sorted.
Be safe! Sorry for all the house issues but your planned excursion sounds spirit-lifting !
Good luck! I love all the Pacificas – don’t know how many are still available – and also love the EdM Bleue in the summer.
Ai yi yi! That bleeping gas leak has been far too difficult to repair!
Don’t get me started about what a pain water heaters can be.
Hi everyone 👋
A beautiful sunny day here, a crisp and perfect October day. The best.
At the suggestion of AI, I am combining Khamrah with Malin&Geotz Dark Rum. Khamrah is supposed to be a dupe of Angel’s Share, it’s not a dupe but it smells good in it’s own right. Still, I wanted a boozy note and Dark Rum provides that.
Have a lovely day, NST.
It is gorgeous out, although 10 more degrees wouldn’t kill me 🙂
I’m intrigued- how did AI help you decide? And which are you using? I’m considering starting to use it.
I use ChatGBT, and I just asked it what could add booziness to perfumes as a layering oil. Like, I have patchouli, amber, vanilla oils in roll-ons, and it suggested the Dark Rum, which I happen to own. It probably knew that, along with everything else about me but I try to be careful and not use full names etc. My daughter got my husband and I started since AI is here so we can learn more about how to use it. Very fun for perfume ideas and shopping, it can scan multiple sites for prices in the wink of an eye.
Hiya ringthing! 👋
Wearing Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena for the CP. It has two of my favorite notes: Iris and incense, so it would be a great scent to be cremated in.
Chilly and windy day in the upper 50s. At least is sunny and colorful outside with all the leaves already changing colors.
Planning to stop by BBW later to check the new Cereal Milk Soft Serve, as well as the Black Tea products. If I like them I will grab a couple of them.
Iris Nazarena was my plan for tomorrow. 🙂 Probably my favourite, most elegant iris.
I agree with you. Iris Nazarena is my most elegant iris perfume, along with Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre.
Huh, that’s a great call, Iriz Nazarena. I will think about that.
Great!
Please let us know your thoughts on the new BBW products. I’ll be stopping by there tomorrow on my grocery-shopping rounds.
Ooh, wait until Saturday to get candles if that is what you are looking for. I did some damage yesterday but only for things that are “on sale”.
I knew that incense was one of your favorite notes!
Beautiful fall day here-I’m in the new Sisley hair and body fragrance. It’s really nice. No compliments on it today:)
But the day is young!
Carole, what is the new Sisley hair and body fragrance?
Robin, I did get compliments! And LesLiesse, it’s their new hair and fragrance spray. I can’t pretend I understand it, cause any perfume can be a hair perfume, and this one has alcohol, so if your hair is dry use with caution. It kind of smells like their hair care line. I smell some salt and minerals, and magnolia and cedar. It’s a bit spa like and I really enjoy it. It’s meant to be used on hair and body. I’m making it sound very boring but it’s just a good scent!
Score!!
In the middle of a power outage caused by Russian attacks.
I am wearing Tam Dao, which would make a soothing funeral scent.
Glannys,
I am so sorry. Hope power back soon.
Thankfully the power outage isn’t affecting your internet and you are able to comment!! You smell great.
I hope you get your power back on soon and that you get a peaceful weekend
Heard about the power outage on the news last night. Sending you a hug!
Thanks everyone. Power is back for now (after three hours). But there might be another outage tomorrow. Charging everything!
Thinking of you and hoping you stay safe.🤗
Your patience and perseverance are always inspiring Glannys! Be safe! And you smell really great!
I’ve heard abut the attacks on Kyiv, and always wonder if you, your Mom, and Kora kitty are all right. Glad to hear your power is on (for now).
Srsly? “Abut”?? That should be “about”.
I am wearing Sisley Eau Revee Hubert and drinking my second cup of Assam Blend tea.
Ah, forgot that Sisley series, hope they are good.
Happy Almost Friday NST!
Ray of Sunshine Report: MY FIRST THUNK! The THUNK was glorious! I fished it out and did it again. After all those plinks and a few plunks, it was a marked aural difference.
It was Abel Laundry Day, which was the catalyst scent to de-lurk and join y’all on last New Year’s Day. To play it safe, I sprayed on one arm the new bottle and the other the older one. Phewwww! They’re the same. (Still burned by the Ombre Leather 16 v Ombre Leather substitution.)
Wishing all a lovely autumn or spring day!
Congrats on your thunk!
Merci beaucoup, springpansy!
Glad your new bottle of Laundry Day matches the old one!
Currently, quite a bit has gone very sideways in terms of family. Wearing no 19 edt today. Need some extra backbone to get through work today.
Good luck Dawn. I hope things settle down and work is okay
Big hug Dawn! Good luck and you smell just wonderful!
Sending positive energies and hugs your way.🤗
Sorry to hear about the family issues Dawn. Bon courage!
I’m baaaaaaaack!
I am so glad to be home, though we did have a fabulous trip seeing our grandkids.
It’s good to see my fragrances again. SOTD is Bum Bum Cream with Shalimar L’Essence.
Welcome home! You smell great.
Thank you galbanumgal!
Welcome back! We had a fun four day weekend with two of our grandkids as well.
That’s great! Grandkids are special ❤️
Welcome back, you must be a bit tired! The feeling of being reunited with your fragrances is just lovely, just knowing they are there in your reach!
We were tired since we drove to North Carolina from South Dakota and back. Long trip! Nice to be in our own bed.
Welcome back Kris! Glad you’re home safe. And it’s a big day for me when I not only know both scents you’re wearing, but I own them too! Imitation is the truest flattery. Enjoy smelling divine!
Thanks Lesliesse😎
Welcome back! You both must be beat after that drive.
We were pretty tired, but we do it over about 2 1/2 days. Good today.
Welcome home Kris!
Thanks Gail!
I’m in Ummagumma today, not because I would be buried in it (though I wouldn’t complain), but for Deva, who turned me on to it.
Ah, that’s perfect!
SOTD is O Unknown, because who knows what happens on our last amazing journey?
Great idea! I will wear O Unknow when I get home tonight.
Smelling quite lovely today apsara.
I’m wearing Grand Chalet as Robin wore it yesterday and it seems a good fit for a warmish spring day.
It’s so good. Maybe I will cave on a bottle when my decant is done.
I’m in Chergui. I think this could work for the CP for me at least — if not for others. It’s a beautiful day and after I do some Medicare plan research (UGH), I will head out for a walk.
Curious what you are searching for-a Medicare Supplement? I was so happy my husband was a few years older so I could see how his worked. It was so good, I ended up getting the same one when it was my turn.
We currently have a Med Advantage plan. I think we want to change to Medicare plus a gap plan. So need to look at those.
Hajusuuri has posted advice about Medicare plans in the past.
Yes, thanks. I still have to figure out *which* gap plan.
Good luck with it!
I was on a plane yesterday and I swear every other person was coughing. I am crossing my fingers I don’t get sick. I’m wearing Chanel Gardenia (edp I think) because there are only 2-3 more wearings in the bottle and I am trying to use it up. It’s a gorgeous sunny day and I am going for a walk later.
Ugh, really hope you have escaped getting sick! My son has been sick, and seems like half this school too.
I have noticed more people in masks. We had our Covid vaccine a month ago and now will get our flu vaccine soon. Hope you stay well!
Fingers crossed for you!
Back from, and recovered from, my least favorite task of the year: closing up the camp for the winter. I’m participating in the CP by wearing Passage d’Enfer, which appeals to my sometimes dark sense of humor as well as smelling lovely.
I always have an AC/DC earworm whenever I see Passage d’Enfer mentioned.
So that’s what it means?!
Ugh.. I’m slow.
Congrats on getting it done, you smell great AND great idea.
I’m wearing Eau My Soul today. Not for the CP but just wanted something boozy, sweet, and warming.
Wearing what you want beats any CP!
I’m wearing Guerlain’s Outrenoir, one of my usual easy to pack travel sprays, as I’m at the airport for another visit to my mother – this is long-planned weekend trip for her 95th birthday.
It’s a beautiful morning here, the first sunshine for ages, and we’re leaving!
I hope it’s a wonderful trip and celebration!💐🥂
Happy birthday to your mom; you are lucky to have her for so long. Wishing you a safe and memorable trip!
Happy 95th to your mom! Bravo!
Safe flight, and congratulations to your Mom on her 95th birthday! What a milestone!
Happy Birthday to your Mom!
I’m twins with Robin in AdV Oeillet de Bengale. This is my favorite Carnation fragrance and I can imagine this as part of a beautiful send off🌸
Oeillet Sauvage, sans “de” 😊
I love that one and agree carnation is a perfect scent for a send off.
A very belated hey twin!
For NPR fans…RIP Susan Stamberg

This is such sad news. I loved her reciting her Cranberry Relish recipe every holiday season even though I’m not a fan of cranberries.
Heart-breaking.
She did the original Wint-O-Green Lifesavers experiment? Respect!
sotd = Barbara Bui Le Parfum
Very powdery, slightly musky, and a bit spicy like a strongly scented carnation. But mostly pow-pow-powdery like old school loose face powder. Oddly, to me, this one is listed as an amber in fragrantica. The nose knows I guess. 😅
I’m stumped for tomorrow’s CP, so this evening I’ll take a wander through the perfume cupboard. I’m enjoying everyone’s slightly morbid thoughts!
An oldie but goodie!
Like many of you, I’m enjoying a beautiful 🌞 fall day. I wanted a fragrance today that mirrored the day, warm and woody as the trees start to turn with the sun ☀️ shining through their branches, nothing dark and gloomy. My choice was YR Voile d’Ocre, a creamy slightly sweet, slightly spicy, and slightly golden sandalwood/cedar blend, Perfect!
Just finished spending most of the day at my library preparing for this weekend’s book sale. Not only is that exhausting, it’s also dangerous because I get to be among the first to see what’s available! I try to be more careful nowadays as a few years ago I bought a hardcover of a book there I ‘just had to have,’ only to find the paperback version of the same book I’d purchased previously and hadn’t yet read. 🤭
Happy almost-Friday🍁🍂🎃
Hope that you have good weather for the library book sale this year. The story of your duplicate book was pretty darn funny. I’ve done the same thing with perfume samples. 🤣
And to further confess, because this is such a non-judgmental site, I don’t think I’ve read either copy of the same book yet.🤭
Back in my used-book-buying days, I did that all the time…bought duplicates by accident!
SOTD = Lush Sticky Dates Body Spray
Another nice one that I really should wear more often!
I came home this afternoon and saw a yellow note tucked on my door. I also happened to see a strange-looking mini commercial van parked next to me. My speedy sense decided to knock on the van’s window and the driver came out. He acknowledged having left the note and I got SERIOUSLY concerned when he said he shut off the water. WTH?!? I told him I have an appointment already set up for Friday next week. He said oh just let him come in for only 15 minutes! He spoke with 2 separate people who must have told him to restore the water because I already have an appointment. In any case, how can a company just willy-nilly shut off the water WITHOUT checking to see if anyone’s home?
Oh, and I decided to get a bottle of YSL BabyCat and will split it whenever the Splitmeet comes around in early November!
Thank goodness for your Spidey sense! But that whole episode sounds sketchy AF.
That’s terrible about the water guy. I would have been scared to knock on the window.
RIP Ace Frehley, founding member of KISS.
It feels like early September here along the Front Range today. I know this weather can’t last, but I will enjoy it while it’s here.
Not going to follow this CP. In the past few years Colorado has had some truly horrific happenings with both funeral homes and county coroners. I’m talking super high grade nightmare fuel and felony charges.
SOTD = Estee Lauder Azuree. Got inspired by yesterday’s comments to pull this one out.
I am going to spend too much time reading tributes tonight.
I have read about those Colorado stories. Total nightmare stuff is right!
“Nightmare fuel” is the polite way to describe those happenings. Totally effed up is closer to the truth.
You nailed it with nightmare fuel! That is really mind boggling on a whole other level.
Smelling great Jalapeno!
Thanks Gail! You were my scented inspiration for today. My T-shirt is still wafting away hours later.
I don’t blame you; nightmare fuel is certainly an apt polite description of what you speak.
Yep.
I am not going to google because I suspect I don’t want to know, but of course skip the cp!
Trust me, you do NOT want to know.
R.I.P Ace Frehley. I was 9yrs old when I got my first KISS album ( still have it) it changed everything for me musically.
My sotd is Organza.
I was much older when I got my first KISS album. They’d taken off the makeup by then.
The cover art for “Destroyer” scared the crap outta me when I was a kid.
