Wednesday scent of the day 10/15

Posted by Robin on 15 October 2025 114 Comments

Happy Hump Day! It's also Global Handwashing Day and World Students’ Day. Birthdays: Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing what I'd think I'd like to wear as I was dying: my DIY lotion with ylang ylang and sweet orange oils. Layered on top today: Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet.

Reminder: on 10/17, wear the perfume you would like to be buried or cremated in. (This was a suggestion from Deva, who did note that it is a bit macabre, but also that many cultures include fragrance materials of various sorts in their funerary rites. I was saving this project until Deva rejoined us, but since it looks like she has moved on to other interests, I'd like to take this opportunity to honor her since her presence here brightened everybody's day for so long. If it's too macabre for you, don't join in, obviously!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Byredo Mumbai Noise. One of the very few Byredos that I think is quite nice. Spices, dirty oud (a little synthetic though) and dry leaves, very fall appropriate. I’ll happily drain my samples.
I found out my local essential oils specialty store is offering perfume making workshops. I think I will find an afternoon and try it out.

I’ve known most of my life that I want my ashes sprinkled into the Pacific Ocean, so my first thought about the CP was to choose something salty or beachy or sandy. So I tried Wood Sage and Sea Salt yesterday and (much to my surprise) didn’t care for it at all. Hopefully a fleeting reaction since I own two small bottles of it. Now I’m rethinking my approach to the CP, and doing said thinking in The Abandoned Mansion.

I love that scent but it says Atlantic Ocean to me or the sea off the coast of England. Perhaps more of a ‘beachy’ fragrance would be more appropriate for the Pacific? Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom comes to mind, always reminds me of driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in a convertible on a glorious sunny day!

It got cold, so today is my first sweater day – and the first day for fall/winter boots.

I wanted something both warm and fresh, and Memo Winter Palace is just that.

I pulled my Norwegian wool cardigan sweater out of the cedar chest today. It finally feels “cold enough” for wool which makes me very happy. 😃

31 rue Cambon for me. It fits the CP because I have a giant vat of it that I will never be able to use up, so I guess it should be buried with me. 🙂

I often think about what will happen to my collections (perfume included) when I die, but I never thought of what I want to be cremated in.

I want the afterlife to smell good, but also something that will mask the smell of decay… so perhaps Chanel Cuir de Russie.

I’m wearing Abel Pause and listening to the rain on the roof while the dawn chorus plays in the background. There was an article in the newspaper yesterday about Abel
Perfumes – they are being reformulated ( with heavier concentrations) and repackaged ( a triangular, ‘A’ shaped bottle). Cyan Nori is going to have a bit less seaweed as a note.

Green Cedar and Cyan Nori were the ones she signalled as changing the most. She didn’t mention Laundry Day but it will be interesting to see if it changes. I tried The Apartment yesterday which is a cherry based scent and quite nice. The main scope of the article was new bottles and more concentrated formulas overall.

    Hello fragrant friends,

Slept and slept to make up for lack of the other night.
    Coffee tastes good.

Like SheriG, some of my ashes will end up in the Pacific.

And around the world, I hope, to all the places I have lived and loved.
One of the things my sister and I did after my brother in law died so suddenly was make all of our own arrangements so as to not burden anyone with the task or cost or anything else.

I think I feel good enough to get back to the gym today after this covid/flu interlude.
Post shower SOTD will be SMN Incenso. The rain here yesterday in SoCal made for cooler weather.

and wore the same beautiful scent for the past few days, with Hiris the several days before that. I’m in iris love at the moment. 💙

I miss chiming in here, but my screen time has been limited lately.

I’ve had mild shingles the past few months , including in one eye, likely from the stress of eye surgeries over the summer. Not feeling bad, just very fatigued, and my doctor says it would have been worse had I not been vaccinated about a year ago. 🤷‍♀️

And Yay for Wodehouse! I love Jeeves. 🫖☕️

I’m in Babycat today because apsara wore it yesterday. I saw someone mention it’s at Sephora now so I confirmed they sell the 2.5oz bottle, which is $230. Then I see YSL’s website sells a 1.2oz bottle for $195. If I ever decide to buy it, I’d only want the smallest size possible but that’s a really stupid price difference. So I’ll probably just be good with my decant. 😉

I’m feeling much more rested today, thankfully. Still counting down until my long weekend starts on Friday.

My daughter had a half day of school so we went to Ulta and played with make up. She is very good at doing her own makeup. If it weren’t for her behavioral issues she could be a makeup artist. My sotd is everything I sprayed at Ulta. None of it good. I pretty much stink. I saw Sqishmellow (sp?) Released 3 perfumes with old fashioned bulb atomizers. They look super cute and smell ok. My daughter really likes them.

Teflon also doesn’t like my lotions. I think it’s just too much.

Scented lotions, that is. She’s more than happy to lick any unscented lotions off exposed body parts!

I definitely find humidity (or a lack of it) can change how things smell, as can hot or cold weather. Interesting that TK reacted so strongly to Bengale Rouge.

I think maybe Tef got an up close and all too personal sniff of it. A concentrated dose would be too much for her sensitive little nose.

Weather does make a difference! Maybe you can layer a no-scent lotion below the CK Euphoria?

I used to wear Euphoria as a Spring and Summer time perfume. Maybe it’s at its best then? Some of my perfumes are very seasonal.

Usually Teflon kitty couldn’t care less about the perfume I am wearing. Last night she was investigating a swap package that had arrived. Because cat. And she did NOT like Bengale Rouge at all. But the box and the packing peanuts inside were a huge hit.

SOTD = still hanging out in CK Euphoria. It packs less of a punch than I remember it having in NJ. Colorado’s dry air is probably a factor.

She’s enjoyed scattering the packing peanuts out of said box. Silly cat!

    Happy Hump Day!

    Aka Happy Almost Almost Friday!

Struggling with CP. Having lost 3 much beloved people since Jan 2024 this hits close to home. And I’m feeling extra bad because not once, not 🤬🤬🤬 once did I think to spray some of aunt’s perfumes on her 😢😢😢. Feeling quite horrible about it.

Anyhow Sotd Desertland EdP and body crème. I find the scent calming, and I’m feeling a wee bit in a desert emotionally. Struggling to come up with something profound for the CP.

I ordered a new bottle of Abel Laundry Day 50% off on Amazon Prime. Still hasn’t arrived yet. Given Kanuka’s update they’re apparently reformulating and repackaging their scents, hence the discount. Glad I grabbed it.

I lost someone dear to me yesterday morning LesLiesse, rather unexpectedly (well, it was expected, but only for the past few days, which to me is still pretty unexpected). In my case, it made this project more meaningful, but in yours, if it’s making it a struggle, do ignore it!

In fact ignore any cp, any time, no need to explain or apologize, ever. They’re just meant for fun, or in this case perhaps, to make you think. But they’re not obligatory.

Hope you are feeling better today?

Robin, I’m very very sorry for your loss! For me, ever when it’s clear the end is near, I’ve been walking around saying I can’t believe they’re gone. The finality of it all is too much for me to fathom. I don’t know if this is what your shock feels like. Thank you for the pass on the CP. Maybe I will be inspired by my NSTers comments.

I have lost a fair number of people (but not in such a short time period as you – that’s extra hard). It is hard, but I do think my general philosophy is wow, I was so lucky to have all these wonderful people, and for so long.

I am not sure that I 100% understand the original intention behind the the Jewish “may their memory be a blessing” but as I intend it, it is exactly how I feel, and as I’ve gotten older I tend to think that life works in phases, each phase is different, make the most of that phase because you are not here forever, and find a way to be grateful for what you had even if it’s gone.

And I am quite sure you have properly honored your aunt, while she was alive and since she has passed. Not thinking to spray perfume on her is just not important, and I can’t imagine she would want you to feel bad about it even for a second.

ps I adore perfume and I am 100% sure that nobody in my family will think to put perfume on me after my death, nor do I care. It is interesting for me to think about what perfume I’d pick, but it isn’t like I’m going to tell anybody to do anything about it!

So sorry for all your losses, LesLiesse. And please don’t beat yourself up about not spraying perfume on your aunt. I’m sure you showed your love and caring for her in many other ways.

Tested the perfume tie-ins with the upcoming Wicked for Good movie at Ulta today. Was glad I only sprayed them on paper.
