It's the weekend, and for some of us, a 3 day weekend. We're celebrating with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you're hoping to find (or hoping to split) in the splitmeet on 11/1, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Wearing Kyoto today after it being a strange shift at work. It was telling someone on the phone that something they were looking for was a regional thing and he probably had to call a specialty bakery for it. And an elderly gentleman lose it because all of our weekend slots were full for the weekend. I have no idea why people got upset about a policy of 48 hours or more for orders, it’s been that way for over a year. People are just nuts.
On a lighter note, the perfume that I won on a Perfume Posse giveaway has finally shipped and I am eagerly awaiting it.
Congratulations Dawn! What did you win?
It was the Headspace Rose one. Portia did a giveaway on the Posse as few months ago. I was starting to wonder about it.
People are really just nuts! Sorry you had to deal.
Cool weather has arrived. I am wearing a flannel shirt. I saw a mention of Ciara and *choice made* for SotD. I hope everyone will have some time this weekend to feel as cozy as I do today.
You smell very cozy! Ciara will linger for days on a sweater and still smell great.
Happy belated birthday – MossyBerry💐💐
Thanks, apsara! ✨
I got all my winter clothing out today, including the flannel shirts…it is chilly!
SOTM is Cèdre Sambac over the remains of Liis Bo that I tested at bedtime last night. Bo is very nice, but almost too … clingy, if that can be said about a fragrance. I enjoyed the top notes (very prominent cedar), and the middle (non-sweet vanilla and maybe elemi?), but never got the promised tobacco or pine. This morning it was still noticeable as cedar and something vaguely sweet, so I had to choose something complementary. But what I really wanted to do was test-drive something else! Oh well, later.
I don’t like my fragrance to last that long either.
Then be very cautious about what you are choosing to be buried in, Robin!
Ha, no worries on that score.
I am indecisive about Bo. I mostly get the cedar, which for me is not a bad thing. I wish I got MORE vanilla. I keep going back to it to my sample, seeing if I can pick up more notes.
In Jil Sander No. 4 because there’s been so much well deserved love for it this week💕
Anyone interested in a split of one of Tauer’s latest limited releases, Shadid?
SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Tocky Lips
A wonderful violet perfume – I should wear this more often!
In other news, those who like to decorate for Halloween 🎃 👻, behold:
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/realestate/halloween-decor-tips-haunted-house.html?unlocked_article_code=1.sU8.YslJ.mtVC5PdZZomR&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
I’ve notice more and more houses in my neighborhood going all out with Halloween decorations in the past few years. I appreciate their making the area feel more lively and fun. I have no idea how they store Halloween decorations AND Christmas decorations. My attic is full as is without one of those giant Skelly things!
For some reason, my street doesn’t do much decorating for any of the holidays. The streets around me tend to go all out.
I have seen fewer decorated patios and decks for Halloween in my apartment complex this year.
I’m enjoying my usual start to a Sunday morning, sitting on the couch contemplating the joy of a quiet day. The weather is rubbish, so I think this will be a very indoorsy day. Thinking of perfume, I’ll wear something warming, I’m leaning towards Amber Absolutely from Fort and Manle.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better weather for you.
Enjoying being home after waaay too much work travel. I just took a long afternoon soak with a Lush Yog Nog bath bomb and the shower gel. Planning to wear Shalimar L’essence tonight for a party at my neighbor’s house. Maybe I’ll add a spritz of yog nog to my hair too.
If the nor’easter stays away, I’ll be planting some roses tomorrow. I bought myself a few treats during the David Austen sale a couple weeks ago and I need to get them in the ground soon.
Welcome home! You will be smelling great at the party.
I’d love to grow roses, but way too many deer in our area see to it that I cannot.
As part of the Shalimar L’Essence posse, you will smell gorgeous! Be sure to hug all your friends so they get a whiff!
Welcome back! Has that Nor’Easter been really bad in your area?
I love blackberry scents and wear a different one each month. For October my choice for SOTD is Lulu Guiness’ Cast A Spell, full of dark berries and lots of patchouli, with a touch of lavender and lilac to soothe and lighten the darkness of the fragrance. Layered over BBW’s Dark Kiss body products, it’s definitely a combo for the wicked 🧙♀️ of the season!
Happy to be home all day catching up on things and relaxing 📚📚📓😻😽😸
Happy weekend!🍁🍂🎃
Did you see how it ended for my poor Tigers?! Maybe next year…
Yes, that was a real bummer, sorry about that. 😞 Most of the teams I was rooting for have lost. 😠 Only 1 game left tonight before the next round.
Sorry but not sorry, the Tigers have gotten more love of late, and my poor sorry Mariners never advance. To be fair, the Mariners should have dominated that series and did not, so hats off to the Tigers. But we do so poorly in the postseason that I will take anything.
Oh gosh we stayed up to cheer for the Tigers until the sad end 😢 So sorry Lillyjo!
I was hoping to see a better showing for the Phillies and the Tigers. At least the Yankees are out!
For the split meet, I hope someone (hajusuuri ❤️) splits Imaginary Authors The Abandoned Mansion. It sounds very good.
Today I am wearing a fall classic, Chergui. Love the hay and honey. The actual corn and soybean harvest is in full swing here, where we are in a drought, and huge clouds of dust are flung high in the dry air. An allergy sufferer’s nightmare. It would be so nice to smell a little Chergui when I walked outside, instead of dust. But the cool air is wonderful!
The clouds are holding all the rain until it’s ready to be snow.
Well, you smell amazing!
Just as info, The Abandoned Mansion is now available in the 14 ml travel spray. You know, in case nobody does a split of it. 😉
I will do a split of it but of course you can decide which type / size you want.
🥰🥰🥰
SOTD is bath products- Panier de Sens Rose soap then Hanni Shower Salve, which has a heavy rose amber scent. Sometimes I’ll layer with a rose or iris perfume, but it’s enough on its own and perfect for fall weather.
I don’t know what shower salve is but I am going to google that!
It’s not that cold today and I’m wearing M by Mariah Carey, so cheap thrill day for me. I swear I’ve had that bottle forever. I am echoing Dawn above with the strange shift at work, just when I was having a fine day, things go screwy. Not looking forward to the Nor’easter that’s supposedly coming up the east coast. Also, RIP Diane Keaton.
I was very shocked to see that she had passed. Diane Keaton has always been one of my favorite actresses.
You smell good! I had a small bottle of this and really enjoyed it but it’s one of the few I used up. Haven’t smelled it in a long time. Yes, RIP Diane Keaton; she was a favorite of mine, talented and genuine.
I just saw that she died, what a surprise. She was only 79 and she looked great.
No word yet on the cause.
I agree, though I have to admit it may sound odd saying someone is “only” 79. But yes, she did always look great, smiling and, it seemed, happy.
When I was much younger, I certainly thought 79 was ancient.
Me too. I can clearly remember the day my mother said my dad was too young. He was 82.
Now, at 72, I understand.
RIP Diane Keaton
Journey woman today
I’m off this weekend. I took my daughter to the big mall. I did a little bit of perfume sniffing. If you really want to smell like a cupcake, The 7 Virtues has a new one out called Butter cream something. It literally smells like buttercream frosting. My daughter sprayed a body mist from Glossier called Lilyhaze ( I think) with apricot and amber notes. I really liked it! I wish it was a perfume. I might get it for her as a Christmas present.
Tonight I am wearing Mugler Wonder Bouquet.
Glad you had a fun mother daughter perfume day!
Feeling more like yourself today?
Oh, my heart. Diane Keaton was an icon – the star of some of my favorite movies ever. I adored her. It was wonderful to know she was on the planet; somehow I thought she always would be. What a loss.
My day has been spent in the sadly discontinued Fate (Man,) from Amouage. I love all of its phases – the dried orange peels at the top are especially thrilling. A perfect fall fragrance.
Funny how much we are a company town, Daniel.
It does feel a little dimmer her without her.
I share your sadness, shock and yet appreciation for her Daniel. And you do smell like fall w the dried orange peel. Apsara is spot on, in our company town it seems sadder.
Too bad that both Fate Man and Fate Woman are gone.
Diane Keaton, I will absolutely miss you. For a girl growing up in the ’80s, she showed us a way to have style outside the conventions, and to assert your intelligence and to be funny and attractive even if you weren’t a model. I can’t really think of any actress since who could own that persona.
I never got to the Jil Sander No. 4 yesterday after my doctor’s appointment. So I sprayed it today and immediately regretted it. Not because I don’t love the perfume, but because I was doing the only safe land border crossing (to the exclave) to pick up my kid’s Halloween costume items and the FZOTIC Creosote travel spray I’d ordered. With the Jil Sander No. 4 on…well, I’m still smelling it. So the Creosote will happen tomorrow.
I’m looking forward to your notes on Creosote!
Going to echo SheriG on the Fzotic Creosote! I don’t always like what Fzotic has, but I know it will always be thought provoking and interesting.
Gorgeous fall day here, and it’s Canadian Thanksgiving. I’m off to a friend’s place for lunch, and I think I’ll wear eau d’hadrian, so I will smell good but not interfere with the food.
Just got finished a big project at work and I’m so happy it’s over and it went well. Now I have to recover-I put off my own exercise needs while it was going on, and do I ever feel it. I want to feel slightly stiff from a bit of lactic acid in the muscles. I want to have a sauna after all my workouts. I have about eight asses to the isolation pods-there funny pod with salt water, and you float to relieve stress. So for the next six weeks I’m promising myself something nice every day-somme exercise, a sauna, or a float-let me see if I can develop some better habits and get rid of some stress, before winter really kicks in 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your friends and family!
Thank you, apsara:)
Happy you’re well organized around self care Carole. It’s inspiring!
Thank you, LesLiesse! I see I made some typos with my spelling-I have 8 passes to the pods-I do not have 8 asses at all! Think I could use some sleep 🙂
carole,
there have been some wildly funny things on this blog for many years
AND
“I do not have 8 asses” is one for the books🤭🤭
I admit it took me a moment when I saw the original post 🙂
I am glad you clarified about 8 passes versus 8 asses to the pods. I couldn’t make heads nor tails of what it meant!
Happy weekend and Canadian Thanksgiving! My mum’s been putting in menu requests including my truffle mashed potatoes and salted caramel pumpkin pie. Gonna be spending most of my time in the kitchen!
Sotd is Dior Bois Talisman, a new fall favourite.
I am so sad about Diane Keaton’s passing. She brought me a lot of joy from the big screen. RIP.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Those truffle masheds sound luscious!
Can I put in a request for salted caramel pumpkin pie too 😉
Happy Sunday NST! Very shocked and saddened about Diane Keaton, and so young. We were just discussing Something’s Gotta Give because Mary Tyler Moore’s famous tam hat was in the NYT during an interview with her cardiologist widower husband. I always felt like those two were the inspiration for DK and KR characters. I really wanted her to end up with KR instead of JN, but at least JN would be a better man for having loved our heroine. Excuse my digression on film and love! RIP Ms Keaton, your oeuvre will continue to inspire, delight and move us.
Sotd TF Ombré Leather 16. Sorry to say that those last few samples I thought I snagged were actually just the reformulated OL mismarked. The reformulation has a lot of smoky accords and none of the aquatic or ozonic of the OL16. I’m going to contact myscentsei where I got it and see if I can get a credit. A small inconvenience in the greater scheme of things.
Still recovering. Hope to be back to normal by Tuesday.
A beautiful Sunday/ Monday to all!
LesLiesse, I have been not quite with it and probably missed this. What are you recovering from? I hope you are back to normal by Tuesday too!
On Thursday I was wearing By Kilian’s Straight to Heaven for nutmeg note. At home cleaning folks were polishing the marble in the foyer, I took a header and then hit my right side down my body. First 9-1-1 call ever. No concussion, thank God, but a hell if a headache over several days as well as black & blue plus aches. Basically been sleeping since then. Finally feeling like myself today but still very tender. Also the paramedic that spent the most time around my head, once we decided no transport to hospital, asked me what fragrance I was wearing bf so he could get it for his wife. I told him but he didn’t like the name. Thanks for asking lillyjo. Now we both must get to 100%.
Oh my goodness, LesLiesse! How frightening that must have been. Wishing you a speedy recovery.❤️🩹
Thank you Daniel!
I missed all the posts last week-please look after yourself, LesLiesse. That sounds serious. Head injuries are nothing to fool with. I’m glad you don’t have a concussion and how funny about your perfume compliment at that particular moment in time.
The irony of life.
Oh my! I’m glad you have been resting. Make sure to see your doctor if you aren’t feeling right by Tuesday.
Still recovering slowly.
Drat! Too bad about those sample of Ombre Leather!
I’m going to try for a refund.
Re: the Splitmeet, is anyone planning to split their bottle of Deixis? I’m thinking about getting one to split if no one else had already planned to.
I don’t recall a posting about this new scent. Did I miss the write-up?
It was a limited release from Bruno Fazzolari’s Fzotic brand. Now there is another limited release. I know that there were NSTers who purchased it (maybe therabbitsflower?) so maybe she or others could weigh in on how the like it. It sounds like a lovely amber from the notes and the description below:
This radiant composition opens with a hint of gourmand sweetness before unfolding into a luminous harmony of precious labdanum, transparent vanilla, and warm sandalwood. Frankincense and styrax add resinous complexity, creating an amber that feels both ancient and thoroughly modern.
Deixis captures the meditative quality of early morning moments when the world is still and creation flows purely. A sophisticated amber that transcends seasons, Deixis offers the comforting depth of traditional amber accords reimagined with contemporary transparency and refinement.
This sounds really good – hoping someone weighs in on it. I thought about buying a bottle – but I just don’t buy full bottles much anymore.
Fzotic does travel sprays of all their scents in addition to full bottles.
I’m chiming in late, but yes Deixis is a very nice amber incense vanilla. It wears very close to the skin but is radiant. I’m not a huge lover of incense perfumes without the help of amber or vanilla so Deixis has the perfect balance for me. It’s cozy and has some sweetness, but it’s definitely not a sweet perfume.
I’ll consider if I want to split a couple portions, but I do like it very much and would probably be happy to have the bottle mostly to myself. 😉
Spending Sunday morning in IA The Abandoned Mansion, and still loving it. Not loving that we are still oven-less after discovering yet another hidden disaster in our home of 20 years, left by the former owners who seem to have been rather cavalier in making their “improvements”. If we ever buy another house, we’re going to have some extra requests to make of the home inspector.
We ended up finding a lot of disastrous electrical wiring in our current house, spent a lot to revise the whole electrical system. We renovated so heavily that there was not a lot of “extra” since it needed to be redone anyway.
I justify spending money on electrical systems because if you have a bad problem, it may be the last problem you ever have.
Yeah, no kidding. 😳 Our current issues were behind our range/oven unit — electric outlet just hanging amid a lot of crushed wallboard, and the gas line coming up through the floor as flex hose with no shut-off valve. The gas has been repaired and the electric will be in a couple of days. No idea when the wallboard will get cleaned up. But someday!
Ugh, so sorry about all your “discoveries”. Hope you can get an oven soon!
Luckily, we were able to catch the delivery people who were taking our old oven unit away, and we will reinstall it after the various repairs are made. It still works, and new units are exactly one inch too wide for the space we have available, so until we either do a full kitchen remodel or sell the place and move on, I have to hope that the old range/oven unit can soldier on. (A contractor friend told us that about 80% of kitchen remodels are done because new appliances just aren’t made to fit the old spaces.)
Oh good, glad you were able to get it back!
What a PITA! But relieved to hear that the gas connection to your stove has been fixed.
I hear you on appliances. My brother spent a month or 2 looking for a replacement refrigerator that would fit in his kitchen. Fortunately for him, he has another fridge in his basement. He was able to play “Musical Groceries” for a bit.
Vanilla Powder. I smell coconut. The husband who rarely compliments says I smell good. Lucky me it’s a full bottle.
Mr. G’s older (and more self-aware than most) son remarked recently that men tend to notice scents that remind them of food. I think he’s on to something. 🙂
I think he’s on to something too. I remember decades ago reading an article that men like the smell of vanilla and pumpkin on women. 😊
I had to look this up. It does say that there is coconut powder in there. Yay for the compliment!
In the summer it was insanely powdery but in the cooler autumn the coconut ramps up on my skin. And yes, compliments from hubby are a rarity 😜
How long before Vanilla Powder gets thunked? 😉
Work should be a bit less hectic this week, my manager is back from his five week holiday and I’m looking forward to handing things over!
I’m wearing Angélique from Papillon Perfumes
Yay! 5 weeks is a long time.
Okie dokie – we cancelled the NYC meetup.
I just don’t feel well and we don’t want long delays at airports due to shutdowns or anything else.
No monies lost – everything was reimbursed.
One consolation prize; a new bottle of Jo Malone Amber Labdanum.
Warm, smoky, lovely so far. And I had saved all my 2025 Nordie notes.
Oh no!! I was so hoping you’d be able to get there!! Hopefully in the near future 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
Thx cm8 . Much like we will always have Paris, there will always be pizza. And perhaps next time I’ll be able to taste it.
Hopefully you can reschedule during the holidays. NYC is such a delight then imho.
Lucky to have grown up there to see many trees at Rockefeller Center.
No travel over the holidays, zero tolerance for the human race at certain times.
So sorry you’re not getting to go, but tell us about the Jo Malone!
My nose isn’t 100% percent yet.
I got the smaller bottle.
I like this one. It’s the intense and yes, it stayed for several hours.
Opens with a smooth, smoky ambery note. And I love a a smooth, smoky note. It stays fairly linear with zero weirdness and about four-five hours in this lovely orange – orange peel note came through.
I think it’s one of the best JMs I have loved since Vetiver & Golden Vanilla.
So a thumbs up for me. I would buy a lotion if they had it.
Thank you! Sounds gorgeous, and right up my alley. Great that they offer it in smaller bottles too. Now, do I have an excuse to buy more perfume? Probably not, but I can at least try to sniff this one. 🙂
Was afraid of that, but glad you will not wear yourself out.
Is okay.
Money saved for next adventure.
🙂
I’m sorry for you and your sister and I hope you’ll plan another trip soon💕
We are always planning something, allo.
My partner in crime and travel and eating samosas around the world.
I am glad that you aren’t dealing with all the irritations and stress of airline travel while you are unwell. And that Jo Malone sounds quite interesting!
Sorry about your trip but congrats on your new fragrance – it sounds wonderful!
Testing out Bon Parfumeur Myrrh Shadow. It is good but remains me of Prada L’Eau Ambree which I ended up decluttering. So that should be a lesson to me.
Yesterday I tested out Unique Luxury Istanbul which was very much like one of the By Killian’s, I think Love Don’t Be Shy or the original Love.
Still frightfully hot here and we really need rain. I have a bunch of wildflower seed packets but not sure those seeds should be sowed when it is 90 degrees every day and no rain. Yesterday, I hand watered a lot of the plants, annoyed that I have to do this in October.
Sorry everything you’re trying smells like something else! I hate that.
Fingers crossed you get a cool down and some rain soon.
I bought two decent-sized decants by Arquiste from Scent Splits recently (no affiliation) and am wearing L’Or de Louis today, which is a beautiful and vibrant orange blossom, with a bit of character to it, so not altogether sweet and cloying. I had a sample but didn’t buy the FB and am still somewhat hesitant. It’s surprisingly weak, at least I’m finding it so on a few tries. For the price, it should last better. The other sample I bought, Almond Suede, is such a powerhouse you have to watch out or you’ll smother yourself in suede. Scent Splits has good pricing and excellent service–I recommend them, in case you’ve been hesitating. My items came very quickly.
I’ve been fussing about suitcases lately since I’ve got some travel coming up and even though I have about 6 or 8 upstairs, they all have problems–too ratty, too big, broken zippers. So I went shopping today and wound up buying what seems a nice one but is the cheapest Samsonite and still a lot. Wow, you can really spend a lot on luggage these days–and somehow it just seems not worth it to me, as a status symbol. Too easily lost, marred, poked, banged up, sent astray, torn, whatever. Although I was tempted by their pretty light blue color I went with the conventional black. I’ll tie on orange ribbon on it like my mother always used to do. Works like a charm.
I keep thinking I should try the L’Or de Louis, but I never try anything so I don’t know why I bother thinking about it 🙂
Yes, luggage is expensive! I do not care what it looks like particularly but I did buy 2 of the lighter hard shell suitcases a few years back and I love them. The wheels on modern luggage are so much better, too.
I’m not looking forward to when I replace my current suitcase. But glad I bought something that has lasted so long! And a pink shoelace makes my bag stand out on the luggage carousel.
SOTD is Boucheron Trouble. Smelled the current version of Miss Dior EDP this week and was surprised how much I liked it. But hoping someone will split Coromandel in the splitmeet, and maybe Shalimar L’Essence.
Good luck! I would think someone would do the Shalimar.
My son has a night game on 11/1 so I’m hoping I remember to check in on the splitmeet in the morning! We were in Cleveland yesterday for a home game and stayed at the Intercontinental for the first time – homecoming weekend so our usual places were fully booked. They have Byredo Bal d’Afrique products (in the mounted dispensers). A nice change from the usual Residence Inn smells. So no perfume today after the Byredo products this morning. Thankfully we seem to have moved into the cooler weather so I can start in on my fall scents.
Hope they won!! Either way the Byredo is surely a bonus.
Nothing like good products in a hotel room🥰
Ohh, how nice!
Went to see the last Downton Abbey movie yesterday and I was wearing Feminite du Bois for it. Could have worn Joy or no 5 since both would be period appropriate for the movie. Woke up this morning to find out that I had to pay duty tax on the Headspace Rose perfume I won. And I am walking out the door for a meeting pertaining my mother.
Forgot to add that I am wearing Coromandel today. I know my mom doesn’t like Coromandel but I love it.
Did you enjoy the movie?
Chilly weather today. I had to turn on the heat this morning. There’s been a few bouts of light rain here, and the clouds can’t decide whether they are staying or moving out.
Teflon’s not a fan of the weather, my vacuuming, or my trimming of her front claws. That last item is for her own good, though. She was getting caught in the carpet every so often.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to the people up in the Great White North!
SOTD = hanging out in CK Euphoria. It’s still smelling wonderful to me, although the pomegranate note seems to be less prominent than I remember. Trying out a new body butter (to me) from Josie Maran today, the Golden Hour. It’s supposed to be an amber scent. It’s OK. Vanilla Vibezzz and Bohemian Fig are much better, IMO.
You’re brave to trim those claws! I rely on my vet to do that. You smell good, I like Euphoria but for some reason I never bought it.
It’s taken me several months of gently handling Teflon’s front paws to get to this point. I still can’t take care of all the claws at once. A snip, snip here and a snip, snip there. Not going to deal with the rear ones.
I also bought a dedicated claw trimmer instead of trying to use human nail trimmers. The right tool makes a big difference!
Good to know. Thanks!
Larry the cat won’t let me trim his claws unless my husband holds him. I agree that the right trimmer makes a huge difference.
Teflon was very fed up with me by the time I got to the last claw. And she communicated it unambiguously.
Fortunately for me, she’s also very forgiving.
Mild temps but gloomy skies and a little bit of rain forecast for most of the week. That led me to reach for Miss Balmain as my SOTD. I enjoy its woodsy, earthy, mossy feel and the plum and wildflower notes in the BBW Fall in Bloom body products I wore underneath helped quell the leather note a bit in the Balmain (I’m not a leather note fan.)
Mr. Laila and I got our Covid boosters and flu shots this morning. We’ve never had any bad reactions in the past – other than a sore arm – so hopefully 🤞this will continue. Yesterday we went to a house concert at the very home of another folksinger we follow. To say that was a Wow! event is an understatement, an event we will never forget!😱
Hoping everyone on the East Coast stays safe from the nor’easter and wishing all a wonderful week ahead!🍁🍂🎃
Hope that your and Mr. Laila’s streak of mild reactions to shots continues!
So far so good🤞.
