Sotd is Shalimar the OG and she smells beautiful. I was looking for my Shalimar MVP because I wanted to compare it with my L’Essence but I could only find my bub and no way was I gonna open that! I also spritz the back of my hand with Shalimar Jasmine because Kris mentioned the jasmine gets stronger with age, which I agree!

My part of Texas is still running high temperatures in the 90s, so when I saw my bottle of au Thé Noir, I chose it for today. This is a transitional scent to my nose, and perfect for the October weather.

I would have thought that Feminite du Bois and Coromandel had nutmeg in them but they don’t. Wearing an unhealthy amount of Theorema today.
Just put my insurance appeal in the mail today. They said my crown for the root canal I just had done wasn’t medically necessary. Upside to my day was I found out I got a 25 cent raise today.
But they might!

When I took the FM fragrance questionnaire years ago, that was the recommendation for me. They were right, I love it.
I don’t have any of your other scents…but will try to hunt down L’Autre. Sounds intriguing.

Thank you for this Hemlock Sillage. I didn’t think I had any nutmeg fragrances in my traveling bag but lo and behold I packed a mini of Bulgaria Omnia so that will do. Also, I noticed that a lot of my fave fragrances list “spices as a note, so for the CP,, I’m going to assume that includes nutmeg.

Have you ever watched the 1958 documentary about the Newport Jazz festival called Jazz on a Summers Day. There is a beautiful segment where Nathan Gershman , a jazz musician, sits shirtless surrounded by smoke from his cigarette, playing Bach ( prelude cello suite no. 1). It is so beautifully shot. We had a warm day yesterday , maybe 20C, and it was so good to feel a bit of sun and heat. I heard a shining cuckoo as I walked around the cemetery – the first of the year. Their call is very distinctive. They migrate from the Solomon Islands every year to nest ( about 3000 miles) – one of the longest migrations for a land bird. They go back to the Solomons at the end of summer, and I don’t blame them. Wearing Vierge de Fer today.

I have been going through Guerlain samples I never tried and am sampling Cherry Oud today. Getting tart cherry and leather so far…lots of folks on Fragrantica say it’s similar to Black Perfecto and I can see that too.

The hand went to the little bottle of Cèdre Sambac, so no points for me yet again. Going to get flu and covid jabs in a bit, then off to the lighting store — several things have suddenly gone wrong in our household (for instance, no oven, stove or range hood – very long, sad story) and we’re slowly getting things put to rights. Later on I may claim belated points in Eight and Bob Egypt.

It’s evening now and I’ve joined you in Eight and Bob, Egypt in my case. The nutmeg note is very prominent. I actually bought the discovery set for Mr. G, but I like this one better on me.
UGH! It *really* sucks when a bunch of major appliances decide to call it quits at the same time. What a pain!
The bigger pain is what we found when we pulled the old oven/range unit out from the wall. It’s a combo gas range with an electric oven, and the electric outlet isn’t mounted to anything! It was left flopping around loosely back there amid insulation in a big hole in the drywall. And the gas line to the range top is flexible hose where it should be rigid. So we need an electrician to fix one thing, a plumber to fix another, and then someone to come in and patch the wallboard — all before we can reinstall cooking facilities. Hello takeout and microwave! Gah!

I’m wearing Angels’ Share today, for a haircut later. So far, bangs and layers haven’t worked. I’ve been growing those out and hoping my stylist has more ideas, I am clueless. Having a pixie was easier but less versatile.

Confession time — I usually look at the Target circular on Sundays but neglected to this time around. I seemed to recall that Target times its sales somewhat to Prime and lo and behold there were a few things that seemed reasonable. I ended up buying two perfumes: Pistachio Please (which I picked up today) and Sweet on the Outside which will be mailed to me. Let’s see when I open them. I also took the opportunity to buy several Target deals which will likely show up in IG pictures once I start posing and posting them.

I have lots of spicy perfumes but not sure about nutmeg. It’s finally cooler today for tonight’s girls soccer game photography, so I’m going with DSH Cardamom & Kyphi. Excited to be able to wear my spicier and heavier scents.

It definitely finally feels like fall today. It’s hard to believe that just 2 days ago I was wearing a halter top, shorts and sandals, and today I’m wearing long sleeves, jeans, and knee socks!
With all that’s going on around here in Chicagoland (‘nuff said) I wanted a fragrance today that brings peace and calm and I found that in YR Ode au Reve, primarily sandalwood with a touch of jasmine and incense. Even its blue bottle says ✌️.
Going to this month’s Classic Film series very unusual pick tonight at our historic movie theater, Slam Dunk, a 1977 movie about hockey starring Paul Newman. Billed as the ultimate sports film and guy movie (violence, profanity), I’m not sure this is one for me but I trust my program host so I will tough it out. 🤞

It was a strange one. A woman wrote it, supposedly based on her brother’s personal experiences as a hockey player in the late 70’s. Or, as I took it, was that her opinion of men at that time? – profane, violent, immoral jacka**es? The men seated in the row behind us laughed continuously but both me and Mr. Laila, only occasionally. Nonetheless, I’m glad I went.
Your SOTD sounds beautiful.
It’s lovely. All of the scents from the ‘Ode’ line were great. Ode a l’Amour with a nice plummy note, Ode a la Vie, very green with a bamboo note, and Ode a la Joie, a bright citrus with a strong pineapple note, all from the early 2000’s. I enjoyed all of them and had one for each season. I only have a spritz or two left of them and will miss them when they’re gone.
Robin, I read your take on Guerlain Cologne su 68 from back in 2008. I was utterly charmed and researched to buy some. Fortunately there’s fréesia in it which I’m allergic to! That said, your line about staying away from the Guerlain counter struck home. Such a lovely salesperson at the local counter- proverbial ice cube seller to Inuits! Glad I have a legitimate reason to avoid the place 😆

You might want to smell it on paper. It really has so many things in it that the freesia is not noticeable…I am not a fan of freesia in perfume.
I’ve been going through my samples and am only saving the one’s I know that I will wear. I sent a bunch out and today took another bunch to work along with a few bottles. My sotd is Santal Carmin from the sample stash. It’s one of my favorites.
There’s a frost warning tonight. Tomorrow I have to call and get an appointment for a furnace check up.

Posting a little late this afternoon. Just had a hard time getting going today. It got down to 38 degrees F this morning which made my bed with its flannel sheets extra cozy. Typical first freeze out here is around October 15 or so.
Teflon kitty had her lunchtime sunbeam today! Had to smile as she made a beeline for it after her lunch.
SOTD = bounced back to Angel EdT (aka Angel Comet) for a mild October afternoon. It’s perfect.

I’m glad to see her enjoying it now. The sun was too intense during the summer, so Tef didn’t want anything to do with it.
It has not been that cold yet here but we’re getting there! And by the way, the cedar in The Abandoned Mansion is quite strong in the first hour so if you are not into that, you may want to stay far away. I would say though that the dry down is subtle and good.

I wore Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao yesterday thinking it might have a nutmeg note (it’s kind of a cola smell to me), but it doesn’t (according to Fragrantica, anyway).
Today I wore Pierre Guillaume Bois Blond, which I don’t think has nutmeg but for me is the perfect autumn fragrance. Such a glorious fall day that I started out on a short walk to buy bagels and kept going for five miles.
Love those cola notes in perfume! Not cold enough for me to wear them just yet. Soon enough!
Having a happy birthday and was delighted see the octopus mentioned! I was captivated in a long (long, long) ago elementary school lesson about words, to learn that October was once the eighth month. I thought it was “neato” that my birthday was the 8th of the 8th month 😹😹. It’s nice to share my day with wacky sea creatures! 🐙. SotD from hajusuuri’s swap, LAdDMN. The mentholated oakmoss and patchouli opening scared me a little but soon the spices arrived to comfort me. I’m thinking the ambergris will show up tomorrow. Or next week even! This one is 💪. AT has surprised us again. I am delighted to find *I* can savor a perfume with nary a whiff of fruit or flower.
